This post, written by Max Follmer, originally appeared on The Huffington Post

One day after voting to elevate a divisive conservative judge to the federal appeals court in New Orleans, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein was the president's guest aboard Air Force One. She had been invited to survey the damage from the recent spate of Southern California wildfires.

The senator later remarked privately that she found her conversation with Bush aboard Air Force One "illuminating," a source close to Feinstein told the Huffington Post.

Two weeks later, Feinstein was one of two Democrats on the Senate judiciary committee to vote to send Michael Mukasey's nomination to be the new attorney general to the full Senate. Her support helped turn the tide in favor of a nomination that faced an uncertain future after Mukasey refused to say whether waterboarding was torture.

When the full Senate voted, Feinstein was one of only six Democrats to vote in favor of confirming Mukasey.

Now, a coalition of progressive Democrats upset with Feinstein's controversial votes will ask the California Democratic Party to censure her at its executive board meeting this weekend, the Huffington Post has learned.

The move comes as Feinstein again finds herself under fire for saying Thursday that she now supports granting legal immunity to telecom companies that shared customer email and phone messages with the federal government as part of the warrantless surveillance program.

"Dianne Feinstein does not listen to the people of California," said Rick Jacobs, president of the Courage Campaign, a progressive organization in California. "She supports George Bush's agenda time after time."

Feinstein's office did not respond to messages seeking comment.

East Bay For Democracy, a chartered Democratic Club outside San Francisco, will introduce the censure motion on Saturday at the state party's executive board meeting in Anaheim. The Governing Board of the Progressive Caucus of the California Democratic Party and the Progressive Democrats of America are also backing the measure.

In addition to her move to back Mukasey, critics have lashed out at her decision last month to vote to confirm Judge Leslie Southwick to the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans. Southwick's opponents charged that his record on the bench in Mississippi demonstrated that he was both racist and homophobic. The Congressional Black Caucus, Human Rights Campaign and People for the American Way opposed his nomination.

The censure resolution faces an uphill battle. In order to be considered by the full executive board, it must first make it through the party's resolutions committee, which must approve the text unanimously.

The text of the resolution is below:

Whereas Senator Dianne Feinstein voted to support the nomination of Judge Michael Mukasey as United States Attorney General, thereby elevating to the highest position in law enforcement a man who refused to renounce the right of the President to resort to torture and who refused to recognize waterboarding as a form of torture, and by this action Senator Feinstein failed to oppose President Bush and failed to stand for the ideals of the Democratic Party, which abhors torture and stands firmly against its use by the United States at all times and places; and

Whereas Senator Feinstein voted to confirm Judge Leslie Southwick for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit despite his clear record of racism and gender discrimination, thus failing to stand firmly with the Democratic Party, which supports gender equality and opposes racism in any of its manifestations; and

Whereas these examples are far from the only instances where Senator Feinstein, after seeking and securing the support and endorsement of the California Democratic Party, has failed to support the policies and principles of our party

Therefore be it resolved that the California Democratic Party expresses its disappointment at, and censure of, Senator Feinstein for ignoring Democratic principles and falling so far below the standard of what we expect of our elected officials.

Digg!

nationwide against all traitorous Dems. Those who voted in Mukasey as well as those who refused to allow Kucinich's impeachment bill against Cheney to come to the floor. And don't forget those who passed H.R. 1955, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, a boon to the prison-industrial complex and security industry and a blow to the First Amendment.

They need to be held accountable. Best of luck to the Californian Democratic Party on this!

I'm tired of Blue-Dog "Democrats" (Repugnicans in Southern Democratic Clothes), DLC types (triangulating careerists, many also Southern), and other posers. Are you listening Rahm?

DF needs to join Joe L and leave the Democratic Party. If she won't leave she should be shoved out.

I'm a California native and I assure you posters that she is going to be removed. She's in love with Shumer and somehow Bush got to her on the flight. Her vote and reasoning posted in the LA Times is so maddening, the only thing that comes to mind is violence.

I think every possible means to censure her and harass her should be undertaken each day. I certainly am going to do my part. She is a loathsome subhuman freak who, like Bush, doesn't give a damn about what we care for. She is history.

Paraphrasing the article, I sent the following letter to Feinstein in all of her offices...

Feinstein...
You are a despicable Republican masquerading as a Democrat. One day after voting to elevate a divisive conservative judge to the federal appeals court in New Orleans, tou were the dipshit president's guest aboard Air Force One. You had been invited to survey the damage from the recent spate of Southern California wildfires, but in truth, Bush and you met to plan what you could do for his nomination Mukasey.

You later remarked privately that you found your conversation with Bush aboard Air Force One "illuminating," The sucking sound was overwhelming! Two weeks later, you were one of two Democrats on the Senate judiciary committee to vote to send Michael Mukasey's nomination to be the new attorney general to the full Senate. Your support helped turn the tide in favor of a nomination that had faced an uncertain future after Mukasey refused to say whether waterboarding was torture.

When the full Senate voted, you were one of only six Democrats to vote in favor of confirming Mukasey. Are you sick, or just mentally deranged? You, by association, confirm waterboarding and torture as an American policy! How sick I feel that I at one time voted for you. Henceforth, I am going to do everything in my power to remove you from office! It's time to remove ALL swine from the running of our nation!

Feinstein is one of the Republicans wearing Democratic clothes. She isn't the only one: Lieberman, both Nelsons, Landrieu, and Lincoln. Harry Truman said it best: "If the choice is between a Democrat who acts like a Republican, or a Republican, the voters will choose the Republican every time."

Another Cindy Sheehan to take on Sen. Feinstein. We need to find progressive candidates like Donna Edwards in the MD-4th, who is taking on DINO Al Wynn, to run against all of these pseudo-Democrats who are really corporate tools in disguise.

Hope all of you Californians are paying attention. Weasels such as D.F. are not welcome in the Democratic Party. It is time there were two distinctly different political parties. The only way this will happen is if progressives take ownership of the Democratic Party as the religious right wingnuts have taken the Republicants. It's that or pitchforks and torches and a new third party.

ol' Diane is our Senator until 2012. She was just re-elected in 2006. She's been a problem since she was Mayor of San Francisco taking over when our real mayor George Moscone and our beloved councilman Harvey Milk were shot and killed by a right wing nut cop. I was surprised to find that she billed herself as a Democrat even then. Her voting record and her look and take on our city was decidely Management and opposed to Labor. She's Pacific Heights all the way. I doubt if her limo has ever been to the Mission District much less her Pradas. She's out for number one - ol' Diane herself and her utterly fabulous stock portfolio. She has no business whatsoever being in the Democratic Party except that, unfortnately, if she were to change parties and become the actual Republican that she is, the Democrats would lose control of the Senate and all of the committes: the votes, the bills, what gets voted on, what gets "tabled" would go directly back to the Repubs without even a half ounce chance of getting a vote at all much less a vote on behalf of progress. What I'm saying is... she sucks! But...she is in there for a while and for now she keeps the slim majority a majority. If we recall her (believe me I'm all for it in theory... she sucks) we have the good ol' Governator here (another piece of work that one) who could then appoint any ol' Repub he wanted (probably himself) and then we'd be in the same place or worse. So.... the really, really bad news is that there is a rumor about Schwarzenegger running against Boxer in 2010. We can't let that happen. The central valley and the east of the state love the Gov. Orange County and San Diego do too. He could win. Our energy has to be put into getting the word out and the press out about what a lousy job for California he is doing. We have to start dinging his approval ratings. As much as I hate her, Feinstein is small potatoes right now. She will never be relected in this state because she will never run again. She will be 79 in 2012. She might want to retire, kick back and enjoy the veiw from the "Heights." I've heard it's magnificent. So... what I'm syaing is...would we rather be right or happy? We are right to want to recall the monster, censure her, all of that....but we could then lose the majority and be in worse shape for a long time to come. Our energies in California could be better spent in making sure that the governor is called out on his heavily obfiscated, right-wing, pro-business agenda. Let's take down the governor and keep writing the letters and making the calls to Senator Lieberstein.... but keep her as a Democrat. We need that Feinstein "D" right now.

Feinstein is a classical example of what is wrong with our political system. To serve We The People is an honor and privilege, not a trough for career opportunists. Our country is in it's 230th year and what worked then, does not anymore. But in terms of corruption, nobody holds a candle to the Bu$h family. Their history of treason and war profiteering is second to none.

She doesn't sound as hawkish as Joe, but she votes that way. Has she been persuaded to do this because of the Israel lobby? Most American Jews that I know are aware that Israel needs to change to have any chance of survival. (Just as the USA government must change to have any credibility with most Americans and their frightened allies in Europe.)

I have already emailed her that she should change parties at this point after all the caving in and support she has given to Bush. She would make a much better Republican since she still has a few bits of conscience left and does vote right some of the time....but she has consistently voted like a Repug regarding the war and it is time she goes! Congratulations for the effort to censure her...she sure isn't listening to my emails! Or anyone elses!

I'm glad that action is being taken against Feinstein. I've written more letters to her expressing disappointment in her positions than anyone else. I've come to expect Lieberman to do what he does; however, I do hope that what is happening to Feinstein is a trend and it needs to happen to several more. The picture of her walking in California with Bush, arm in arm was just too much. God, it's no wonder our country is in trouble.

It will not be sufficient to vote in a Democratic Congress. We must clear out the weak willed Bush enablers. Even a plurality of vocal and aggressive Progressive Congressional representatives, who will not cave, would push the case set by the American electorate when it mistakenly thought Democrats would stand up for something. If it's business as usual in Washington, a similar Congress under a Democratic president will cave to minority Republican dissension. None of the likely Democratic presidential candidates will have the will or interest in vetoing endless bad bills. Sadly, the Democratic party is in serious trouble and doesn't see it.

Democrats were voted into office to end the war in Iraq and restrain Bush, et. al and their policies. And the old Democrats in the seats of power have done nothing but suppress Democrats newly elected to do something!! Nancy Pelosi says that impeachment is off the table!? Feinstein supports the President's nominees! I really would want the constituents in these districts to file recall petitions to prove that they're mad and not going to take it anymore, and not just support a censorship resolution. Feinstien, Pelosis, and these old Democrats don't care about anything unless it can affect their life style. It's time to elect new Democrats. Just do it!

Californians may have the option to recall Ms Feinstein: http://www.ncsl.org/programs/legismgt/

Sadly, we can't waterboard her, but a recall would be an effective way to express our distaste for her voting record and her conflicts of interest. No need to wait till 2012. Hmmm, who shall we get to sponsor this process...and when can we start?

519. 11/10/07 plot (11/8/07)
Posted by: kathaksung on Nov 18, 2007 4:15 PM

519. 11/10/07 plot (11/8/07)

On 11/2, I saw a letter in my front yard. It was from Senator Dianne Feinstan's office. I had a petition to her in early August urging her to reconsider the warrantless surveillance law. (see #501) She said she supports it after she had conversation with Mike McConnell, the Director of National Intelligence. The letter dated on 10/17. Why it took two weeks to arrive at my front yard? I puzzled.

Next day, I knew why. The News said Feinstein and Schumer to vote for Mukasey on 11/2. Obviously, Feinstein's letter was dropped there by an agent to show off how they could manipulate the law makers and had their favorite get nominated.

The confirmation of Attorney General nominee Michael Mukasey seemed being in trouble until last Friday. He likely would have failed his hearing in Senate because Mukasey refused to clarify his stand on water boarding torture. Now all of a sudden, his master came to help. DOJ will have an obedient puppet to work for them.

The letter in front yard may mean more. What is it? Two days later, news reported that on 11/4, US Defense secretary Robert Gates arrived in China to question the top officials there about the purpose of their military buildup and to pressure them to stop providing arms to Iran. I am familiar with that kind of cover up. It is another confirmation of a secret deal.

The sudden pass of G.A.'s nomination and the sudden China visit of Gates means a new plot is planned. Feds will have a yes man to cover up their illegal activity. The plot is an old one: a drug case. China will frame the case and offer witness for it. The plot have repeated many times since April 2001.

To confirm my speculation, yesterday's weather forecast show it will rain on Saturday. It is old tactic too. (see #500. IRS raid (8/3/07))
It means the action day will be on this week end.

How will Feds apply the case on me? The only speculation I can have is the garbage bin. Four weeks ago, it was stolen. (see #514. More for October plot 2007 (10/13/07) One week later, my wife said she found it was used by a neighbor cross the street and got it back. She had suggested me to call the garbage company for a new one. I didn't do it. So they returned it a week later. Will Feds make an arrest by claiming they found drug trace in it? I don't know. May be Mukasey will approve it. But if Feds arrest people not for what they doing but by discovering something in their garbage bin, then is it too convenient for them to wrong anyone they dislike by just planting?
