Secret Memos Reveal Rumsfeld Ordered Military to Link Iraq and Iran, Trashed Muslims

GottaLaff: Donald Rumsfeld also wrote of the need to "keep elevating the threat."

Boy-howdy! Rummy's little "snowflakes" (messages) sure conveyed some whiz-bang notions!

In a series of internal musings and memos to his staff, then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld argued that Muslims avoid "physical labor" and wrote of the need to "keep elevating the threat," "link Iraq to Iran" and develop "bumper sticker statements" to rally public support for an increasingly unpopular war.

Land-o'-Goshen, no wonder Big Foot Karen Hughes resigned. It's obvious. She couldn't turn a phrase.

Rumsfeld, whose sometimes abrasive approach often alienated other Cabinet members and White House staff members, produced 20 to 60 snowflakes a day and regularly poured out his thoughts in writing as the basis for developing policy, aides said.

Holy cow, forget Reagan! Donald's the one, the only Great Communicator.

Pessimistic news reports -- "our publics risk falling prey to the argument that all is lost" -- simply result from the wrong standards being applied, he wrote in one of the memos obtained by The Washington Post.

My stars! Nothing could deter Secretary Folksy's penchant for opening his big ol' "aw shucks" mouth:

Under siege in April 2006, when a series of retired generals denounced him and called for his resignation in newspaper op-ed pieces, Rumsfeld produced a memo after a conference call with military analysts. "Talk about Somalia, the Philippines, etc. Make the American people realize they are surrounded in the world by violent extremists," he wrote.

Gosh and golly! Scare 'em to death! That's how to make America safe. Heckuva job, Rummy:

People will "rally" to sacrifice, he noted after the meeting. "They are looking for leadership. Sacrifice = Victory."

Um, what victory, Rums?

Based on the discussion with military analysts, Rumsfeld tied Iran and Iraq. "Iran is the concern of the American people, and if we fail in Iraq, it will advantage Iran," he wrote in his April 2006 memo.

"Bumper stickers" to determine policy... Darn tootin'! Keep it simple for the simple folks. Worry them sick, right into World War III.

In one of his longer ruminations, in May 2004, Rumsfeld considered whether to redefine the terrorism fight as a "worldwide insurgency." The goal of the enemy, he wrote, is to "end the state system, using terrorism, to drive the non-radicals from the world." He then advised aides "to test what the results could be" if the war on terrorism were renamed.

I've often renamed Rummy. Unfortunately, none of my renames are printable.

Now, about all that oil:

He also lamented that oil wealth has at times detached Muslims "from the reality of the work, effort and investment that leads to wealth for the rest of the world. Too often Muslims are against physical labor, so they bring in Koreans and Pakistanis while their young people remain unemployed," he wrote. "An unemployed population is easy to recruit to radicalism."

If radicals "get a hold of" oil-rich Saudi Arabia, he added, the United States will have "an enormous national security problem."

But that's not important now. What is important is all that pesky criticism. Lordy! How does one deflect all that criticism?

As public discontent and congressional questioning grew in 2006, his final year at the Pentagon, a series of snowflakes revealed a man determined to counter the chorus of media criticism in one- or two-line zingers to staff members about specific articles.

Rumsfeld's best zinger? "I resign."

UPDATE: WH distances itself from Rumsfeld's comments on Muslims

The Washington Post reports that as Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld complained that oil wealth has detached Muslims "from the reality of the work, effort and investment...Too often Muslims are against physical labor, so they bring in Koreans and Pakistanis while their young people remain unemployed." Today, White House Press Secretary said President Bush disagrees:

QUESTION: I asked you about the memos that are published in The Post from Donald Rumsfeld and his quote that oil wealth has made Muslims averse to physical labor.

PERINO: That is not -- I went back and looked, and that is not at all in line with the president's views.

Rumsfeld had one comment, partially, correct. The relationship between oil and radicalism.

Of course it is the "western world's" demand for petroleum from the Middle East that is funding the radicalism. It is a sad quirk of fate that the most radical type of Islam happened to develope in the area with one of the highest amounts of energy reserves. The cash generated from the sale of the hydrocarbons put pseudo-nomadic, backwards tribal leaders, and their virulent Islam, into billion dollar estates and onto the world stage. To protect their fragile hold on power these new, rich kings exported their brand of Islam to countries, like Pakistan, Indonesia, etc. Funding madrasses and mullahs and agitating against 'infidels', 'jews', and 'great satans' to take pressure off their regimes. And the 'west' has to buy into this system lest their energy gets cut-off or becomes expensive. Rumsfeld also mentions the idleness that this money has brought to the ruling families. Again, correct. They claim Islam but jet off to MonteCarlo and Vegas for cocaine and gambling. They have lavish private jets. Private harems (sometimes with unwilling victims purchased from sex slavers). Rumsfeld is WRONG though. Most of the labour they import (for construction, work, camel jockeys, sex workers, maids, etc) are MUSLIM themselves, but from poor moslem countries that don't have large energy reserves....

I thought his moronic statement about Muslim's being lazy and said that is why we are bringing in laborer's from N. Korea and Pakistan.
Is he actually that obtuse? He doesn't realize the majority religion in Pakistan is Islam?

The Rumsfeldian Ideological Heritage

Rumsfeld - that eager young pup - received his ideological primer from George Schultz and Milton Friedman.

Shultz merits a brief bio: In 1957, Shultz joined the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business as professor of industrial relations. Later, he was named dean in 1962. Shultz served as President Richard Nixon's secretary of labor from 1969 to 1970, after which he was director of the Office of Management and Budget. He then became Secretary of the Treasury from May 1972 to May 1974. It was during this period that Shultz, along with Paul Volcker and Arthur Burns, supported the decision of the Nixon administration to end the gold standard and the Bretton Woods system.

In other words, Schultz, like Rumsfeld, was also a disciple of Milton Friedman and the Chicago club of economic propagandists.

Schultz refined his propaganda skills while a fellow from 1968-1969 at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford. There's an Orwellian institute for you. It's hidden in the hills up above Stanford behind a locked gate topped by barbed wire. Whatever do they get up to in there?

"Imagine a place where great minds of every generation come to reflect on the critical problems of our time. A place where rising stars and distinguished scholars collaborate in unexpected ways." Do tell us more. . .

Rumsfeld and Schultz have many connections, the most intriguing of which is that they both served on the board of Gilead Sciences, owners of the Tamiflu patent (Hey - remember the avian bird flu panic and those lucrative Tamiflu purchase contracts? Where did that story go? Down the memory hole!). Pete Wilson, ex-CA governor, had gotten his wife a position on Gilead's board as well.

Roche -- which reports full-year financial results on Wednesday -- has predicted that sales of Tamiflu to governments in 2006 will total between 1.6 billion and 1.7 billion Swiss francs ($1.28 billion to $1.36 billion)

The pharmaceutical industry is the most propaganda-heavy industry on the planet - and Rumsfeld has been their eager servant ever since he left the Nixon Administration. No wonder the guy has the total propaganda mindset, as demonstrated by that quote: "Make the American people realize they are surrounded in the world by violent extremists."

I swear I've heard something similar before... right:
"Here I shall give an unvarnished picture, which is backed up in all particulars by incontestable facts. If there is a spark of reason left in the world, and the faculty for clear thinking, then the states and peoples must be shocked at the prospect and induced to come together for their common defence against this acute danger."
Goebbels, 13 September 1935, speech to the Nazi Party.

Herr Rumsfeld should take some lessons in eloquence from his predecessors.

Funny thing but Pakistanis are Muslims so who is he referring to when he decides Muslims are against physical labor? I get the distinct impression he doesn't know what he's babbling about. Still I wonder how much physical labor he’s been involved in.

Sacrifice Eh

Please tell me WHEN the Administration has asked for sacrifice in this war . The troops and their families are the ONLY ones engaged in sacrifice . Let's see after 911 George Bush's advice to America is NOT to gird our loins for the struggle ahead but rather to go SHOPPING . Well at least Condi took his advice .
Asked to PAY for the war by giving up part of their Tax Cuts. The Adminstration refused and wants the cuts that are due to expire in 2010 made Permanent . WE have NEVER cut taxes in a time of war prior to this . Incidentally why do the cuts Expire in 2010 ? The answer is it was a ruse to make the Budget Projections used in discussing the cut look better .
Sort of like the snow job given the Congress on the cost of Medicare Part D . They knew the number provided was a low ball number and in fact threatened to fire the Chief Actaury if he revealed the TRUE numbers to Congress .
Should Halliburton or KBR have to sacrifice ANY of THEIR ill gotten gains ? Of course not they REFUSE to investigate the fraud and waste despite DOD audits claiming huge overpayments and sloppy work ( food fed our troops , the ones they LOVE SO MUCH , that is well past its expiration date )
