Plame: White House Likely To "Twist Intelligence" On Iran

This morning, former CIA agent Valerie Plame appeared on NBC's Today Show and spoke about whether the Bush administration is on a path to war with Iran. She told host Meredith Vieria that she believes the administration is "capable" of again misleading the American public "into a disastrous war based on twisted intelligence." Watch it to your right.

Plame's comments come one day after Vice President Cheney issued "his sternest warning to date on Iran," stating that "the international community is prepared to impose serious consequences." Norman Podhoretz recently met privately with the President for 45 minutes, advocating war with Iran. In a CSPAN interview earlier this month, Podhoretz stated, "I believe President Bush is going to order airstrikes [on Iran] before he leaves office."

While the right wing continues to bolster Cheney's war-mongering, members of the intelligence community are reportedly trying to "slow down what the president, most particularly the vice president, want to do in Iran."

Before Bush administration officials blew her cover as a covert CIA agent, Plame was involved in preventing Iran from building a nuclear weapon. She was "involved in one highly classified mission to deliver fake nuclear weapons blueprints to Tehran."

Transcript:

VIEIRA: I want to ask you, before we go, about the situation now in Iran. There has been almost a beating of the drums. A lot of rhetoric that you heard leading up to Iraq from the President and from the Vice President. I know you've been out of the CIA for awhile now -- for a year.

But given what you know -- and you were working on proliferation in Iran, I understand -- do you believe what happened in Iraq could possibly happen in Iran? Do you believe we are headed toward war with Iran?

PLAME: There's no doubt Iran has intent and it's malevolent. However, I hope that the American people have learned the lessons and paid close attention to what their leaders are saying and tried to educate themselves and get as much information before we rush headlong again into a disastrous war based on twisted intelligence.

VIEIRA: But do you believe the administration is capable of doing that in Iran?

PLAME: I do.

If Vanity Fair wanted to flip the New Yorker cover on the GOP, they'd have to portray the media's lies about the candidate. Not the true stuff.

George Bush, Dick Cheney and Condo Rice are unable to open their mouths without a torrent of lies pouring forth. Anyone who believes them has either just awakened from a deep coma of at least 8 years (campaign included) duration or is incredibly stupid. Congress should not only reconsider its vote to label Iran a terrorist nation, but it should specifically forbid any hostile acts against that nation without explicit congressional approval. The Constitution, for those who remember it, grants the power to declare war to Congress, not the Unitary Executive, a neocon neologism.

...has the authority to Declare War.

Hopefully, the people's (paid for) reps wont do so, depending on who paid for them.

The AUMF fiasco, first invented for the Viet Nam conflict, is a travesty, imho.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

Eighty percent of America's population no longer believes ANYTHING Cheney, Bush or Rice say concerning the Iraq debacle, and I believe that a roughly equal percentage will see this latest subterfuge eminating from the Office of the Antichrist, Dick Cheney's, for what it is: a series of bald-faced lies to "justify" the megalomaniacal power-orgasm of subjugating yet another heathen country in order to plunder its resources (. . ."for the greater good," mind you. . .).

But, in the end, it won't matter what we think. Little Dictator Bush and his Grand Master Cheney have demonstrated that they will do whatever they feel like, damn public opinion. The only thing that will stop these sociopaths is removal from office. But with Congress unwilling to do anything more than give these lunatics everything they want, let alone initiate impeachment, get ready for another protracted and bankrupting war, with possible involvement by Russia (Remember Russia? That country that already has hundreds of nuclear ICBMs, retargetable in less than 2 hours?).

If anybody wants to get a "heads up" on the condition of perpetual war in which we will most likely be spending the next decade or two, before Mother Earth really gets serious about scraping us off its surface, Orwell's "1984" would be a good place to start.
