Hillary Clinton Leads In Yet Another Worthless Poll

Ari Melber: Did reporters and pundits learn nothing from their misplaced faith in erroneous polls last cycle?

Hillary Clinton now leads her rivals in the crucial state of Iowa -- according to a meaningless poll released this weekend. Just last week, of course, politicos were buzzing about another worthless poll that showed Barack Obama leading the Iowa pack. These polls will continue to fluctuate wildly because it's very hard to determine likely caucus attendees at this point. But most Iowa polling is worthless anyway, since it doesn't factor in the state's unusual caucus and "viability" rules. (For more details, see my piece last week, Obama Leads in Worthless Poll.)

Even the professionals have trouble keeping all these polls straight. Here's how the AP described the Democratic horse race this weekend:

Hillary Rodham Clinton has taken the lead among Democratic presidential candidates in an Iowa poll, an encouraging sign of progress toward overcoming a big hurdle in the race.

And here's how the AP described the race, well, this weekend:

[Clinton is in] a much closer race in Iowa, where she is in a tight three-way contest with Barack Obama and John Edwards.

Clinton leads Iowa! No, it's a tight three-way race! No, Obama leads Iowa!

Is this really what we have to suffer through for the next three months? Did reporters and pundits learn nothing from their misplaced faith in erroneous polls last cycle? Does the AP fact-check articles by reading other AP articles? (Alright, that one's obviously a no.) After all the election problems in 2000, the media agreed not to broadcast premature exit polling on Election Day, since it can mislead the public and interfere with the voting process. By that logic, maybe we should also focus less on these polls over the next few months.

Bash Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barrack Obama and every other neo-liberal corporate-owned Dem!

I'm not joking. The current crop of Democratic candidates are anything but progressive or liberal. There is one candidate, though, who stands alone clearly as the only progressive: Kucinich!

Vote your consciences, this time.

peace

The mainstream media just wants to anoint whoever raises the most corporate cash as the nominee. I'm not listening. The mainstream media continues to undermine the very foundations of of this country by being nothing more than a mouthpiece for whatever comes from this corrupt administration and the corporate-owned candidates.

The only person worth voting for is Kucinich. He has the right position on all the issues. Clinton, Obama and Edwards can't even commit to troop withdrawal by 2013! Do we really want more of the same? The election results of 2006 say we don't.

Hear this MSM - KUCINICH!!

Exit polls are quite accurate when the votes are not flipped.

"After all the election problems in 2000, the media agreed not to broadcast premature exit polling on Election Day,"

For once, the MSM was not to blame. The touch screen voting machines by Diebolt and others were apparently programmed to flip votes. A receipt could show a vote for one candidate--and presumably that is what the voter would report in an exit poll, but the machine could record a vote for the other candidate. That's what was wrong with the exit polls. When the MSM realized that their projcetions based on polls were not coming out right, then THEY changed their numbers. Robert Kennedy JR and Greg Palast have reported extensively information about the stolen presidential elections.

It is only very recently in the US that exit polls seem to be inacurate and misleading---hmmm.
