One of the most disingenuous and, well, insulting tacks on the part of Righty pundits of late has been their sudden concern to the rights of gay Iranians. It was the bulwark of their hysterical reaction to Iranian president Mahmoud Admadinejad's visit to New York City and has continued to be one of the justifications of their phobic reaction to Muslims and Islamic culture.
And yet, these are the very brain-donors who insist that ENDA is unconstitutional because it provides equal protection for gays and lesbians under the law (but not the transgendered if the Democrats in Congress cave in to Republican pressure)(which of course they will, seeing as how knuckling under to Right Wing demagoguery is about the only thing they can be counted on to do).
"You liberals should watch out who you stick up for," the Rightards lecture, as if standing up for the American ideals of free speech and honest intellectual discourse (and not being afraid of the boogey-man) will somehow aid and abet America's Enemies, "In Iran, they kill homosexuals!"
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but allowing some nasty-bearded dwarf in a wrinkled blazer to take the stage in front of a deeply hostile crowd at a bastion of American learning like Columbia seemed to do a lot toward showing us just what a ridiculous moron Ahmadinejad is. The people there openly mocked him by laughing in his face when he insisted that there aren't any homosexuals in Iran. (Right, just like there aren't any in the GOP.)
Call me crazy, but it seems like the United States came out the other side of Ahmadinejad's visit without creeping any closer to Sharia law. My friends in New York City insist that no one has tried to stone them to death for adultery or to force the women among them to wear burkas since last week.
They could be holding off until the end of Ramadan, I guess, but something tells me that NYC isn't going to be turning into the new Islamic caliphate any time soon.
Nonetheless, this has not helped our friends on the Right with their cognitive dissonance issues. Witness this post from some Jeff Goldstein groupie over at Protein Wisdom, which we will produce in its entirety rather than making you all mess up your browser caches:
Hey,FaggotStupid
The largest right-wing bloggers, such as Michelle Malkin and Charles Johnson, devote themselves on a virtually daily basis to condemning Muslims and mocking Islam. During the "Mohammed cartoon" controversy, they repeatedly published the blasphemous cartoons. Malkin has a blogger on her Hot Air blog who derisively blogs under the name "Allah". Were fatwas issued against them? Are they living in seclusion, under 24-hour guard from the Grave Islamic Menace that lives in Kirchick's head?
Of course, given the constitutional erosion that's forced you to move to Brazil to escape government censorship, you might as well go live under some version of sharia somewhere. Maybe under the mad mullahs in Iran.
Oh, wait. You wouldn't exist there.
Can't you just smell the tolerance and intellectual honesty dripping off that post like the discharge from Rush Limbaugh's pilonidal cyst? Personally, I always take the advice presented to me by people who preface it, "Hey, Faggot". Clearly, they only have my best interests at heart.
Honestly, I think Goldstein just takes on guest bloggers who are moronic and incoherent enough that they'll make his own case of chronic blogorrhea look sensible and pithy by comparison. With this post, it almost works. But not really, because at least Pasty's guest blogger manages to make his point in under 22 paragraphs, something Jeff has still never gotten the hang of.
Poor, dumb conservative bloggers. I suppose they deserve our profoundest sympathy rather than our bottomless scorn.
I'll get right on that.
