As you may already know, Sally Field wasn't the only actress attacked for an Emmy speech. Kathy Griffin, caustic comedian and star of "My Life on the D-List" has caused a stir of her own with her acceptance speech at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Here's what she said:

"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus." She topped it off with "Hell has frozen over. Suck it Jesus, this award is my god now!"

Now some Christian theater troupe called The Miracle Theater, which is based in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, has spent $90,440 to take a full page ad out in USA Today, that ran on Monday nationally condemning Griffin. It read:

"We at The Miracle Theater consider it an honor to stand for Jesus today," the ad said. "We may never win a national award. We may never be household names. We may never be seen in Hollywood. Although others may choose to use their national platform to slander our God, we are honored as professional entertainers to stand for Christ."

Griffin has also been attacked by the Catholic League, who called her remarks "obscene and blasphemous." In response to the uproar, Griffin has thankfully remained defiant. Instead of giving the standard-issue celebrity post-controversy faux apology, She has said, ""Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?"

...were NOT a joke. They were something that finally had to be said in lieu of the thousand of Jesus thankers.

Is she not entitled to voice her FAITH that Jesus did not have anything to do with winning the award? Who would know better than her? She probably did not PRAY to win in the first place, which would disqualify her from His help anyway.

Maybe she also realizes that Jesus does not wake up and go through His day's agenda where somewhere in that agenda He has to pick an Emmy winner.

Pretty silly when you think about it. That is the REAL joke here. That a God sits where ever Gods sit and picks winners of athletic events, etc.

Second of all how do you offend a myth? There is little to no evidence for Jesus' existence and definitely NO evidence for His divinity. AND there is DEFINITELY NO evidence for a God of any kind, period.

how christian of them to spend 90k on a hate ad instead of something worthwhile like uh, maybe some charitable works? like their buddy jesus preached?

it is a perversion of faith to pray for material things and awards and such, and spiritually retarded to think that god cares who wins the big game.

the whole point of prayer/talking to/listening to god is to do god's will, not the other way around. that's why you can't take these idiots' faith seriously. they don't. they just misuse it and if they get something they want they attribute it to god, but if not? blame the "other" of your choosing.

Creators of such great faux news as this one:

Washington Redskins defensive end D'Aundré Banks gave "all thanks and praise to my personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" Monday for giving him the strength he needed to fatally stab bouncer Isaac Edmonds and ex-girlfriend Pamela Hamilton outside a Charleston nightclub early Sunday morning.

Yeah well okay maybe her comments were tacky but for pity's sake it was the Emmys!
The best thing was that they wasted $90,000,000 looking stupid that otherwise might have gone towards a political campaign or an anti-gay/anti-women/anti-choice commercial.

Let's not forget that the Miracle Group is getting miles and miles of free publicity out of this. If you can't exploit Jesus for free publicity, what good is faith? I mean that sarcastically, of course.

A comment on liberal hypocrisy

It ought to be pointed out that one can mock Jesus, evangelicals, Christian fundamentalists, Catholics and that is hailed as free expression. And any Christian who objects is seen as narrow-minded, up tight, and "one who cannot take a joke." But of course one would never dare to mock a Muslim, or gay activity. That would be considered a hate crime. Liberals are fundamentalists of their own variety: cynical, rigid, and generally not much fun to be with. This is to say nothing of their intellectual inconsistencies.

Whenever I hear an award-winner thanking Jesus, I think of the comic Jeff Stilson:

"I don't watch football anymore, I gave that up. I got tired of the interviews after the games, because the winning players always give credit to God, and the losers blame themselves. You know, just once I'd like to hear a player say, 'Yeah, we were in the game—until Jesus made me fumble. He hates our team.'"

I'd rather have religious fanatics spend money on frivolity like an ad against a comedian than on campaign contributions or "charities" that require conversion before they can help.

...of course, I was hammered out of my f-ing skull at the time.

That money could've sponsored 270 children in the 3rd world for a year...way to show some Christ-like love there, losers.
