Don Imus' Replacement Mocks Asians, Turns In Undocumented Immigrants

Posted by Adam Howard at 11:00 AM on September 5, 2007.

Adam Howard: CBS replaces Imus with another racially insensitive "shock jock". I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Apparently, CBS learned absolutely nothing from the fallout of the Don Imus "nappy headed ho's" incident. They've announced that they'll be officially replacing Imus with Craig Carton, a New Jersey based "shock jock" infamous for mocking Asians and Latinos, "outing" politicians he presumes are gay, and turning in undocumented immigrants. Lovely...

Diversity Inc. reports:

Ratings are exactly why CBS hired Carton. He most recently offended Latinos when he and co-host Ray Rossi started a listener-participation game called Operation Rat a Rat/La Cucha Gotcha. The game encouraged people to turn in friends, neighbors and "anyone suspicious" to immigration authorities. Assemblyman Wilfredo Caraballo of Newark, N.J., called the campaign a "publicity stunt" that could potentially incite violence against Latinos.

"Our country is at war right now, and it's very important that we protect our kids, and one of the ways you can protect them is to not let undocumented immigrants into this country," said Carton, according to the blog LibertyLoung.net.

To insult Asian Americans, Carton mocked Asian-American speech patterns by using a sing-song accent when referring to Jun Choi, a Korean American running for Edison mayor in 2005. Later, Carton said of Asian Americans, "I don't like the fact that they crowd the ... blackjack tables in Atlantic City with their little chain smoking and little pocket protectors ...There should be Asian-only rooms in casinos."

Carton also offended women who had postpartum depression in 2006 when then Gov. Richard Codey's wife revealed she had the disorder. Codey's wife said that during her darkest times, she had considered placing her baby in a microwave, according to LibertyLounge.net.

"What Gov. Codey ought to do is approve the use of medical marijuana so women can have a joint and relax instead of putting their babies in a microwave," said Carton, according to LibertyLounge.net. "Then all they want to do is cook Doritos. Women who claim they suffer from this postpartum depression ... they must be crazy in the first place."

Carton also took pride in outing gay and lesbian politicians. Not to expose some sort of hypocrisy (Larry Craig) but so they "could not be bribed because of their hidden orientation." What a public servant he is!

Those of us who would be naturally infuriated by this decision are supposed to be comforted by the fact that Carton's program (to be co-hosted by former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason) is supposed to be primarily a sports show, not a political one. And we all know how impossible it is to shift topics from sports to politics, or say race. Hey, wait a minute---wasn't it Don Imus' racist remarks about a sports team that opened up this can of worms in the first place? Weird...

Whites should never be like that. It's fine for non-whites, though.

Carlos Mencias is Mexican so he can be as un-PC as he likes, and it's hilarious. Same with BET (black TV). But whites? They better be fastidiously PC, always!

Anyone can mock a white accent (German or Southern US are ROTFL hilarious), but whites absolutely must never mock a Mexican or a black accent.

No no no.

I think Mencia's about as funny as a glass of water. It has nothing to do with PC. There's a way to be funny while being abusive and most comedians don't do it well.

Little Britain is about as un-PC as it could get and I think it's hysterical.

it doesn't bother me that he's not PC enough. it bothers me that imus was fired for the same reason and this guy who is ten times worse seems to have it easy. those public watchdogs aching to say "gotcha" seem oblivious this time around so CBS sure as shit don't care. that a man had to lose his job for excercising his freedom of speech is disgusting enough. that a man is getting a free ride for the same exact reason because nobody's pretending to be offended shows that CBS doesn't care about being associated with racists but only about it's own back.

Imus was on MSNBC, not CBS.

Imus was powerful, and independent. He actually asked Lieberman how much money they were paying him when Lieberman was spouting the Bush party line. The new guy coming in will be outrageous, without being political. As usual, the American People are the losers, and all you will hear will be corporate pablum. Use the internet to find truth while you still can. Get educated. Do not watch stories about Paris Hilton, or Larry Craig. Ask why we have a multi-billion dollar black budget that no one ever talks about, or why 55% of our budget goes to the military, and why we cannot afford after-school programs, or books for our children. Shift your priorities.

Whites and shock jocks, as they're incognitoly called, go hand in hand with the Christi-Judean practice of justified abuses. If Black people don't reliaze by now that the words preceed the storm--we're in for a big surprise by a "genetically annihilated," mainly white government/people!

It reflects on the taste of CBS management. Apparently they can't tell humor from racism...Imus was funny since I started listening to him in the 70s... Sometimes he was way out of line, but there was an underpinning of integrity and real morality that always came through. He had the intellect and interest to attract some of the best guest on the air...at the right time...I didn't always agree with him or favor some of his guests, but he was always entertaining. Being crude and cruel just doesn't get it for me.

Once again, the TV/radio networks show their true colors. I'll put it crudely just as they do: Fuck 'em!
