Good grief. Asking for a handout as his $138K paycheck from his former church is cut off after the end of the year. From Colorado Confidential, "Ted Haggard's Cash-for-Heaven Offer:"

If you haven't had enough of the Haggard/New Life Church saga, this week KRDO Channel 13 in Colorado Springs aired a story about a letter that Haggard sent to consumer reporter Tak Landrock, letting him know of the Haggard family plans to move into the Phoenix Dream Center to minister to ex-cons, recovering alcoholics, drug addicts, prostitutes, and "other broken people," Haggard writes. "I identify."

Baaron Pittenger, assistant news director of the ABC affiliate, says that Landrock has been communicating with the fallen former pastor of New Life Church via e-mail. The station broadcast the story about Haggard's new life and request for donations on the 10 p.m. news last night. Pittenger says he's not aware that there's been much response to the story.

...Haggard, the charismatic former head of the National Association of Evangelicals, was fired last Nov. 4 from the 14,000-member New Life Church that he founded after he admitted buying meth and getting massages from a male escort. After three weeks of intensive "restoration" therapy, Haggard claimed he was "completely heterosexual"; he and his family subsequently moved to Arizona.

He and his wife are moving to a halfway house in Phoenix where Ted, in his letter to Landrock, says he is "willing to counsel some of the men and to teach the group from time to time. The woman directing the ministry to women invited Gayle to teach and minister to the women."

A snippet of the shameless fundraising pitch sent to Landrock:

It looks as though it will take two years for us to have adequate earning power again, so we are looking for people who will help us monthly for two years. During that time we will continue as full time students, and then, when I graduate, we won't need outside support any longer.

...Thank you so much. We feel our move into the Dream Center is the next step God would have us take. Any help we can get with this will be greatly appreciated and, I believe, rewarded in heaven.

As Bloggernista said:

It takes some serious gaul to get busted for buying drugs, cheating on your wife with a male hooker all while preaching family values and anti-gay rhetoric from the pulpit and then come back after a mere three weeks in therapy to claim that you are now "completely heterosexual" and continue to ask others to support you through religious contributions.

...to suggest that people stupid enough to send him money will be "rewarded in heaven." What an asshole!

THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT IS OBSESSED WITH SEX

Instead of obsessing how to feed and clothe billions of needy, end bloody warfare, save the earth, etc. Soon, religion will mean little more than being heterosexual and anti-gay. All other teachings will be eclipsed by the big bugaboo of gayness. EEEK! The sooner this happens the better, as their irrelevance will be clearly visible in stark, glaring fluorescent light.

I would hate to see him forced into male prostitution or drug dealing to make ends meet.

Strictly heterosexual ends, of course. (Very bad pun definitely intended.)

really tragic.

...maybe what we should do is have Progressive Fundraiser of our own to ...demonstrate how much we feel he really should spend time in a real clinic.

...you know, not the kind that a KreepyKhristian would run...

but something that actually talks about actual peered research & sound Psychological & Philosophical self-examination...

maybe we, the Progressives who know how to care, could have a fundraising drive of our own for him?

You know, sell t-shirts with a message that contributes to our desire to see him get 'real help' to become a little less tragic a figure...

that poor man.

Friends don't let Friends Schill for Kreepy Busheviks...

you know?

as stupid does. Anyone who sends this lying hypocrite money probably doesn't have the capacity to realize they're being duped. However, I can't imagine any reputable, legitimate halfway house hiring Haggard to do anything except groundskeeping. The thought that he would be offering counseling to anyone boggles the mind.

...behavior is somewhat...I dunno...

...creepy?

Newsflash:

War.

Economic crisis spurred by financial ignorance.

Deficit spending.

Foreign nationals owning US denominated assets.

The plunging value of a dollar.

And yet...we have people pitting one religion (progressivism) against others (xtianism), here.

What gives? Ignorance dominates all?

In this age of the 'Surge' I guess its only natural to expect a resurgence of this unrepentant scum who has more than his share of surges (in his loins).
When I see worthless leeches like this blubbering con artist preying on our ignorant masses, I wish we could find some way to legalize assassination. Face it, if we had a four-legged animal displaying his symptoms we'd shoot it.

with George W Bush and all of the other reich-wing nut jobs he should be calling on Bush for money. And his very bestest of friends, James Dobson, could chip in with a few bucks also.

After all Ted counseled GW and his staff and he talked to them most every Monday in conference calls along with other so-called Christian so-called leaders. Though Bush claims otherwise, Ted reportedly went to the White House for meeting with the president and other administration officials on several occasions.

Sad, sad character

Ted Haggard, while professing to be "cured" of homosexuality is merely compounding his original sin. If he would admit that he engaged freely and enthusiastically in homosexual acts over a long period of time, and admit that parhaps he might be a wee bit of a homosexual himself, he would elicit some sympathy and understanding. Yet he continues to refuse to admit this, and continues to condemn homosexuals as "sinners" while begging shamelessly for money to continue his lifestyle.
Who would contribute to this fool? The clergy of this country have a pretty soft life collecting money from people they preach to and not having to work for a living. But along with this scam is the requirement that you maintain some kind of image so people will continue to believe and continue to contribute.
Haggard violated the most fundamental rules of a confidence man, which all clergy are, he betrayed the game he was playing and got caught at it.
The guy is a complete mess. There is not a redeeming quality about him.
Go, Ted Haggard, just go! Don't weep and wail, don't lament and blame, just GO! Get out of the news, go somewhere and do your dirty little thing. You are about as pathetic and shameless a character as anyone has ever seen.

(which I would assume you would do for the purpose of healing and helping), you do need to know that you cannot lead where you have not been yourself. You probably need to be able to find some help for yourself first so that you can love yourself for the person that God created you to be. So please, don't be one of those people who do the right thing for the wrong reason. It is good to help people, but first you must be healed yourself. See how that works??? And while you're getting yourself fixed, maybe you shouldn't ask others to support you, maybe you just need to get a real job...

I'm not sure it matters much. All I know it that religion isn't based on anything rational. If I shouted JESUS long enough and loud enough, I'm sure could probably start my own church. Yup!
