The Real Reason for Rove's Resignation

Watching the morning kabuki on television about Rove's resignation is quite something. They're all taking it at face value and nobody is speculating as to what the truth of the matter might be. You know that behind the scenes they're saying something else amongst themselves, but they really just do not see their identity as journalists who report what they know. Their loyalty is to a "tribe," a whispering coffee klatch that viewers simply do not get a chance to be a part of.

Marcy, on the other hand, thinks that one of three investigations are probably reaching critical mass and quite likely to snare him:

The Abramoff Investigation

We know Rove is tied in with everyone tied in with the Abramoff investigation. We know that Susan Ralston, Rove's Assistant was closely involved-and it appears that she has been refused immunity, even though some of her testimony about Abramoff appears to be quite interesting. Novak, at least, thinks Ralston would get to Rove. So it's possible that Rove is one of the ultimate targets of the Abramoff investigation.

The OSC Investigation

We know Rove is a target of the OSC investigation into the politicization of anything and everything in the entire government. We know he did, in fact, politicize anything and everything. While the ultimate outcome of an OSC investigation would consist of Scott Bloch explaining that Rove did politicize anything and everything and recommending that Bush should fire him, but then to have Bush sit on that recommendation as he has with Lurita Doan. Perhaps Rove is leaving in an attempt to prevent us all from learning how closely our government resembles that of a one-party state, like the old Soviet Union.

The Iglesias Investigation
But I'm most interested in the possibility that Rove is rushing out just two steps ahead of the Iglesias investigation. HJC is collecting a great deal of evidence that DOJ employees covered up the real reasons for the Iglesias firing ... and that the real reason for the firing had everything to do with politicizing the judiciary. If this is the reason Rove is quitting, it's not just that BushCo wants him out before he's officially indicted. After all, it's not just Rove-but Bush, too-who was involved in firing Iglesias. So Rove may be leaving as part of a firewall approach in an attempt to save Bush.

All of these are ongoing, yet what we hear about is that Fitzgerald never brought charges as if this somehow exhonerates Rove. Rosy speculation abounds that he will go to some presidential campaign like he didn't blow the 2006 election and isn't most probably about to go radioactive. That nobody on television this morning has mentioned any of the above is both remarkable and telling.

Update: From CNN:

Both Rove and the president are expected to speak before boarding Marine One at the White House at 11:35 a.m. ET.

If he's no longer employed by the White House, can Pres. Bungler still claim executive privilege to keep Turdblossom from testifying to Congress?

Who would think that one of the architects of the Cut and Run slogan would cut and run. Like many Texans he thinks no one can find him there, but like Tom Delay we can find you when we want you. Once Rove has gone he should not have a moments peace. Some one will ferret this rat out of his hole. We bleeding heart liberal will hound him forever. He is responsible for the death and destruction of so many lives at home and abroad. No, he never had an elected position but he had the influence to ruin people lives. He should know that the professionals in the intelligence business never forget. He will need to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life. His dirty tricks may come back on him.

Maybe I'm missing something, but so what if he quit? What difference is it if he gets implicated with a job, or without a job? How does not holding this position effect any of the three investigations in anyway? And, how does that shield Bush from looking like he was ever involved?

I have lost track of the number of investigations the Bush Regime has simply ignored. When they don't igore them, they get Congress to pass laws making the investigated activity legal - retroactively! (miliatry tribunals, warrantless wiretaps, ad nauseum) I don't think Rove or Bush give a rat's ass about any investigations I think Rove quit to help run the Repubs 2008 campaign and step up to considerably higher pay.

why Rove quit

Its really very obvious to me. Rove quit Bush because he's looking at the GOP candidates for 08. Rove is going to join whoever he thinks can win in 08, and help the next bungling idiot to the presidency. Someone like Fred Thompson maybe - who will be easily manipulated. While the real masters pull the strings. Rove isn't cowed, he's planning ahead. And the loyal right wing troops don't think he did anything wrong. Don't be too quick to dismiss Rove. He may be evil, but he is smart.

Using the timeline of the Libby investigation as a measuring stick, a final decision from Bloch's OSC investigation is unlikely to arrive before January 21, 2009.

Bloch is an ideological zealot with an expert ability to drag out investigations of simple and flagrant violations of federal law for years.

In contrast, the unfortunate thing about the Iglesias investigation is that it will continue to top the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The path the House Judicial Committee is currently following seems to ignore the real election year fireworks: Arlen Specter's Patriot Act II confirmation bypass, Tim Griffin, caging lists, and vote suppression.

hummmmmm

You know, Rove can easily live in say, DUBAI or Uruguay, outside any legal US 'extradition' & still run a campaign for Giuliani or Romney or Jebb Bush...

don't count him out yet...

he hasn't & neither would PNAC.

Eloquent summary of journalism today

That's one of the smartest bits of commentary I've read in a long time. This is one of the biggest reasons the world is falling apart these days. Society's watchdog has been neutered.

I went to journalism school. I was to parties full of practicing journalists. I did an internship and worked among them. I agree, they set themselves apart and feel proud of their privy-to this and that status. They even guard it, as if it is something precious. Very tribal. I had never thought about it using that particular word before, but it is very suitable.

...where the Ave Maria Law School grads go for their hate America jobs. All brought to us by the Catholic Church, my Church. And more specifically this hate America group is brought to you thanks to Pope John Paul II, another Decider, of who lives and who dies and who is damned by his friends in the Repuke party. But since he is dead the current occupant of the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI has been dutifully carrying on the work of his predecessor.

These are criminally judgmental people, ie. whomever they so judge will get punishment from this cabal of horrors running our country.

The Republican Popes are as bad as Rove is.

In order to stop this cabal of horrors/death and defeat the Republican Party we must take away this part of their base, the Republican Catholics.

Remember not all us Catholics are Rethugs, and some of us are dedicated Americans. I have been an Independent Voter since I discovered Johnson and Westmoreland were lying to the American people during the Vietnam War. As far as I am concerned any pol that lies to the American people should be removed from office.

What is the most awful thing is USING religion for political purposes;and the reciprocal is religions allowing themselves to be USED and being so willing to surrender religious values for some political power. These people hate because they hate, it's that simple. And they willingly set themselves up as God and JUDGE others. That's called the sin of PRIDE, setting oneself equal to God. It is the worst of the cardinal sins, for which the only cure is the virtue of HUMILITY. Does anyone see the leastshre of HUMILITY among any members of the Republican Party, NOT, NOT and did I say, NOT.

The Rethug party and all their enablers has got to go to their just deserts for all the killing, for PROFIT and POLITICAL POWER, they have done. HELL is that place they so rightly deserve.
