My first reaction is joy, pure unadulterated joy--but then again just because he's not working in the White House that doesn't mean his insidious influence will no longer be there. I mean, I'm sure the man uses the telephone.

How can Karl Rove do anything and it not be looked at in a cynical way. He still should be forced to testify about any number of controversies from the attorney firings to torture to warrantless wiretapping to the CIA leak and the war, my God, the war.

This comes from Raw Story:

Karl Rove will resign from his position in the Bush Administration and return to Texas on August 31, reports The Wall Street Journal.

If that quinella pays off, however, Mr. Rove will have to savor it from somewhere other than his West Wing office. He's resigning effective Aug. 31 -- 14 years after he began working with Mr. Bush on his campaign for Texas governor, 10 years after they began planning a White House run, and after 79 months in the political cockpit of a tumultuous presidency.

"I just think it's time," he says, adding that he first floated the idea of leaving to Mr. Bush a year ago. His friends confirm he had been talking about it with others even earlier. But Democrats took Congress, and he didn't want to depart on that sour note. He then thought he'd leave after the State of the Union, but the Iraq and immigration fights beckoned. Finally, Chief of Staff Josh Bolten told senior White House aides that if they stayed past a certain point, they were obliged to remain to Jan. 20, 2009.

"There's always something that can keep you here, and as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family," Mr. Rove says. His son attends college in San Antonio, and he and his wife, Darby, plan to spend much of their time at their home in nearby Ingram, in the Texas Hill Country.

Here's the Wall Street Journal article where he discusses his departure. He tries to get ahead of the accusation that he's leaving now to avoid being on the hot seat for a host of issues and manages to be incredibly obnoxious about Hillary Clinton and the Democrats chances for electoral victory in '08.

He claims that this is the perfect environment for Republicans to win a third term--which just proves how out of touch and irrelevant this man is. Anyway, August 31st, Rove is gone and good riddance.

Digg!

It is quite likely that is Exactly what he intends on doing... Taking it with him so he can graft himself to some other rethug and carry on with his cancerous career of lying and smear tactics as if nothing has changed at all...

Rove is married? I thought he was a homosexual. Maybe he's closeted. Who cares.

Sorry for this post which is a waste of time. Actually so is much of the focus/obsession with the Toad of Darkness. He's just another little servant of power and he has proven to be not the dark genius liberals like to portray him as, though he has been successful. There are many like him and will be many, many more that will come along to help ruin America in the service of their masters like the Bush clan.

At first when I heard the that Rove was leaving I thought it was the end of the world. Rove made it sound like he would never leave the White House. So it had to be something apocalyptic for Rove to resign. He is under so much investigation how will he hide from it? He can't use the Executive privilege anymore... It makes one wonder just what the evil turd is really up to!

He's not 'leaving' in any useful sense of that word.

You'd have to be a cock-eyed optimist to believe that Karl Rove is retiring from politics -- after all, he can't 'mastermind' (in the Lex Luther sense of the word) the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney, Rudi Giuliani or Fred Thompson from the White House. Personally, I'd be more comfortable if he stayed put (or drove in to a concrete bridge abutment).

I don't buy the "time to be with my family" horseshit.
They all drag out that tired excuse when they've got something to hide or avoid.
Give this story some time to marinate and then we'll see what Shit Flower is really up to.

Afterall, he and the president have done as much as possible to prevent another 9-11. His public service has been an inspiration to millions of Americans. He will be missed.

This may be one of the most dangerous developments yet.

This cabal does nothing without purpose, and we have underestimated them at every turn. Rather than being elated at Rove's resignation, we should go on hightened alert. Suddenly we will not know where he is or what he's doing.

We have an election coming up, or at least we have one scheduled. I am in no way certain that there will be an election in 2008, or that this bunch will step aside gracefully if one does occur. The Neo-cons have worked for 30+ years to get the unprecedented executive power they now wield. They are only one nomination away from absolute control of the judiciary. While weakened, the Congress remains compliant and their congressional accomplices still have considerable clout. I just don't see a group as ruthless and efficient as the neo-cons giving all that up for something as silly as "the will of the people." Indeed, one of Rove's missions may be to regain full control of the Congress so they can continue unhindered the course so clearly outlined in the Project for the New American Century.

well, i had no idea he even had family, let alone a SON in college. it makes me very weary that a family legacy is about to unfold. rove probably has plans on taking his son up the ladder the way that bush sr. had rove take bush jr. up the ladder. not to mention all the attention that rove needs to be spending on the upcoming election....taking back congress, all that.
fun times.

If as it appears the inditments of Karl are soon coming, Why than is this not a way to get out and get found guilty with Bush still able to full pardon anything.
How nieve to think that because Karl is married with a son that he is not Gay, I have known hundreds who live the double life.

So..........Karl Rove "has to resign now for the sake of my family!" The Democrats are hotter on his trail than we thought , and he has to make alot more money to pay his mounting legal bills!!! I do hope it is not too late to convict him for his illegal, psychopathic crimes against our poor country!!! I have always thought of Karl Rove as a perfect example of the "ugly American," with no consciousness, no conscience and no concern for the less fortunate!

the ~5000 soldiers that have died, 30-40 thousand injured or maimed for life, the families of the same, and the 600, 000 to 1 million innocent Iraqis killed are also VERY thankful.

May God continue to bless America in this way...

There is more risk of a Repub win in 2008 than anyone seems to have grasped...

All it will take is for SEVERAL Independents to run for Pres. If, because of how rottenly the Dems have been performing, that should happen, then the otherwise likely Dem majority vote would totally crack up, and we'd lose it.

Karl Rove Under The Radar is a very DANGEROUS thing!

This man is leaving at a time when even the Republicans cannot find a strong candidate to put forth. They are still controlling Congress and like most things in DC, nothing is simple or clear cut. This man may be going to Texas, but do not forget Cheney and Bush are still based out of Texas. This man is moving into the shadows to concentrate his efforts on the next phase of this national overthrow. What better place to coordinate the private contractors who are shooting at our men and women in Iraq for placement in the US? The media will turn a blind eye to his antics, just as they did to Harriet Miers when she left DC. He will be free to come and go without scrutiny anywhere in the US; he will still have access to the government's records because Bush and Cheney will make sure he gets them; and since Bush cannot run again and his ratings are coming up in the polls among Republican trogs, Cheney may be seen as a rescuer candidate for the party to appease the party rank and file who still seem to live in fear of their own shadows.

Whatever the reasons, you can be sure that they do not bode well for this nation and they are certainly not about his family! Bush and Cheney have no intention of giving up this power, and they need Rove out of the limelight to continue his activities to insure that they stay put. Rove likes power and he has no intention of giving it up for anyone, anymore than Goebbels did in the 1930s. The American people would be well advised to do a little spying on this man when he leaves DC, after all he has spied on enough of us!

HE WILL NOW BE THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN THE UNITED STATES! What he will do now, outside of the media spotlight and Congressional scrutiny, will be the most dangerous and fatal thing that could happen to this nation. He will finalize the infrastructure for martial law and coordinate it to be run from Crawford, TX. He will be the one who orchestrates the next attack on this nation, and the target will probably be Congress! Stay tuned for the future under a dictatorship as this man puts the final touches on the next phase of the takeover!
