This post, written by Max Blumenthal, originally appeared on The Huffington Post

On July 13, 2007, I visited Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, where the bodies of American soldiers killed in Iraq were freshly interred. Afterwards, I headed across the street to the Sheraton National Hotel, owned by right-wing Korean cult leader Sun Myung-Moon, to meet some of the war's most fervent supporters at the College Republican National Convention.

In conversations with at least twenty College Republicans about the war in Iraq, I listened as they lip-synched discredited cant about "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here." Many of the young GOP cadres I met described the so-called "war on terror" as nothing less than the cause of their time.

Yet when I asked these College Repulicans why they were not participating in this historical cause, they immediately went into contortions. Asthma. Bad knees from playing catcher in high school. "Medical reasons." "It's not for me." These were some of the excuses College Republicans offered for why they could not fight them "over there."

Like the current Republican leaders who skipped out on Vietnam, the GOP's next generation would rather cheerlead from the sidelines for the war in Iraq while other, less privileged young men and women fight and die.

Along with videographer Thomas Shomaker, I captured a vivid portrait of the hypocritical mentality of the next generation of Republican leaders. See for yourself.

Digg!

Exists a more repulsive cast of characters than these warmongering, war avoiding young Republican men and women? Every bit as swinish as the neocons who brought us to this infamous point in our otherwise somewhat less blighted history. Home of the brave...land of the Whopper. Brainless, gutless hypocites abound. Fat, stupid, vile and vacuous products of out-of-control capitalism.

Our American mythologies used to inspire the world. Americans now simply disgust the world. The truth will do that...over time.

It is disgusting how these College Republicans can parrot with such apparent aplomb simple and vacuous talking points as if they are providing incisive profound commentary on critical public policy issues.

Just give me an hour with these intellectual lightweights and I will invalidate many of the misconceptions and lies they believe to be the truth.

The most cowardly tactic used by the worst criminals is the use of human sheilds.
Fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here. That is using our brave soldiers as human sheilds.
If an American soldier is killed or wounded, the chicken (shit) hawk will say " well they are voulenters". That's like saying "well they asked for it".
It's enough to gag a gut wagon dog.

I was amazed at how often the interviewer would put words into their mouths, and they would just swallow eagerly. The comment above is right about them lacking any critical thinking ability, and their willingness to agree to something that made them look like an idiot is perfectly consistent with their willingness to believe George W Bush. Only an idiot would do that.

The Unfortunate Truth

is that the College or Young Republicans and the Republican Party, itself are better organized, more in touch with marketing to the masses and are producing "soldiers" of propaganda.

The Democratic Party needs to take notes on Republican strategy and be wary of their ineffective strategies.

I should've said, "underage-appearing" or something similar. A bit overeager on the editing. That's what I get for trying to keep my responses as short as possible.

GW Bush and Dick Cheney, aka 'Shooter', aka 'Backseat', aka 'The Evil Penguin', pulled the same trick during the Vietnam war - GW by getting his silver spoon appointment to the Texas Air National Guard, and Cheney - well, he had a rather interesting strategy for avoiding the draft.

The people who start the wars are never the people who fight the wars. Read two-time Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, USMC General Smedley Butler's War is a Racket.

All of these college republicans said almost the same thing "I'd rather fight them over there than over here". Except they don't want to fight them over there either. They want someone else to fight them over there, and they're not even brave enough to risk a few stray bullets.

Personally, I'd rather not fight them either. But I'm not so scared that I need a bunch of working class shooting targets to run overseas to distract them. I'm brave enough to take my chances.

Of course, our President is the biggest chicken of them all. When he said "Bring em on" what he really meant was "OH GOD PLEASE DON'T BRING EM ON. HERE'S A COUPLE POOR KIDS TO SHOOT."

As far as the chickenhawk goes it is a natural predator that goes about its business riding the world of vermin. Now, take a vulture. That is an animal that goes about his business feeding on pre-deceased, or soon to be, less fortunate animals whos bones are left to pick. So, I believe we should get off this "chickenhawk" thing and call a vulture a vulture. Rather fitting I'd say.

This liberal enlisted in the Marine Corps on his 18th birthday after having dislocated his patella and tore ligaments and cartilage in high school football and never had surgery. I also had to sign a waiver for having flat feet before I left MEPS and I was threatened with losing a new car I got for graduation, so, break out the violins because I don't want to hear their excuses for being COWARDS!!!!

My friend Mike is a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Sill, after a tour in Mosul, and he also has flat feet ans well as Scoliosis but he's doing his 20 years come hell or high water despite the pain which I can assure you is CONSTANT!

Any one of these COWARDS from Operation Yellow Elephant had better sit when they piss when myself or any other Veteran are within 2 miles of their location because Women Marines with bigger balls than a loud mouth CHICKENHAWK and if a WM who has the character to follow their convictions can't piss standing up then the CHICKENHAWK doesn't rate to stand like a man among real men.

I can't wait until the next DC protest because if I see one of these COWARDS talking trash, especially to Cindy or any other Gold Star Parent, I'm going to give them a taste of MCRD Parris Island and they will piss themselves... on their knees crying for their momma.

These people bring back that feeling of pure hate...

I love how the video creator discounts the idea of injuries and medical reasons not being a valid reason not to join the military... yet when someone with medical problems gets sent to Iraq you read about it on Salon.com.

I have Supraventricular Tachycardia, a winging scapula with continued long thoracic nerve damage, and a history of tibial stress fractures. Am I a chickenhawk? The first thing they told me 5 years ago when I joined Marine NROTC, "It's not for everyone."

That being said, College Republicans (as well as College Democrats) are usually the kids that can't think critically. They don't know what to think about the geo-political world so they rely on others to form their opinions.
