The one photo the GOP does not want anyone to see was snapped at yesterday's NAACP GOP Presidential Candidate Forum. The NAACP invited all 9 Republican candidates to the forum, but only one showed up: Tom Tancredo. All the Democratic Presidential hopefuls showed up for their forum.

The excuses given by the Republican campaigns mostly had to do with scheduling conflicts--just too busy to make it.

The resulting photo of Tancredo--standing on a stage of empty podiums--sums up the Republican party's commitment to civil rights in America: the only Republican interested is the guy running to deny immigrant workers their rights.

One has to wonder why this photo was not the lead on every morning show and on the front pages of every morning newspaper in America.

The reason, most likely, is a coordinated effort by Republicans to pressure news agencies to downplay the obvious implications of having 8 out of 9 of their Presidential candidates as "no shows" for a debate at the NAACP.

What is keeping the obvious story about Republicans and racism out of today's headlines? David Beckham's arrival in Hollywood.

This is an ideal moment to stand up and demand the kind of news coverage we want in America. Contact your local TV stations and newspapers. Ask them to run this photo and to write an article about Republicans, civil rights and racism.

Sarah Palin is a milestone, for we achieve true gender equality when an incompetent woman goes as far as an incompetent man.

I hope Tancredo told the blacks how the illegals are taking their jobs, their welfare, and bringing even more crime to their neighborhoods. He also could have told them about the increasing amount of hispanic on black crimes, violence, and gang activity. He could also tell them that the rest of the GOP, and the Democrats, are using the Mexican to disenfranchise the blacks, take their jobs, destroy the middleclass, and provide cheap labour for the international corporations!

WTF are you talking about? What you're saying is all bullshit. If you haven't noticed, black parents...as a matter of fact, all American parents have worked hard to give their children a better way of life, so they won't have to do those kinds of jobs.
So, I don't know where you're getting your info from, but seems to me like you're trying to drive a wedge between blacks and hispanics...you know fight over the last crumbs.
As for me, I don't really give a shit about the Dems or Repubs, they're both cut from the same cloth.
My daughter is going to college, so I don't have to worry about her working these jobs that these immigrants are doing. Thank you.

This week they hype Beckham to the max on MSM. Last week it was Paris Hilton, and Anna Nicole Smith before then. What useless fluff will they promote this week to cover a multitude of GOP sins?

Had I not heard this story on NPR (who BYW ran the photo on their website), I would not know about it except on the Web.

If indeed these photos and the related story did not make the front pages, it's all the more reason we need Net Neutrality written into federal, even international, law.

Please see Save the Internet.

FYI, you can see actual front pages of today's newspapers at
Today's Front Pages.

I don't think you get it: this is a coded message to the voters of the US. It is exactly what their supporters (and potential supporters) want them to do. The Republican candidates will not risk their base by appearing at the NAACP forum. Too costly. Those who care about such things vote democratic anyway - get it now?

They consider your response to be ignorant, self righteous, and very helpful: you are getting the word out to the neurotics they pander to.

I suspect Rush talks openly to the ditto heads about their absence: he knows they are gaining votes with that crap.

They're illegal migrants who snuck into the country, not legal immigrants, and they bring down wages, especially for lower income American workers such as blacks. Blacks and illegal migrant workers are NOT on the same side.

Absolutely typical... the redneck party has to stand up and take a bow over this major debacle...

The party that "Honest Abe" built is reduced to criminals and neo-fascist corportist's...
Jeez... how far the political system in the US has fallen...
I'm just waiting to find out how much longer the common US citizen will sit around and tolerate the buffoons that pass the laws that restrict the very fabric of the American flag... disgusts me to know end... fix this mess please...

Certainly the Dems are far from perfect, especially the corporate whore Dems but they are far better than the Rethugs.

Are the Rethugs and their enablers rascists. Just ask Fr. Michael Pfleger of St Sabina Parish in the Chicago Archdiocese. Ask him about his ongoing struggle for his inner city catholic parish to be able to play the white catholic schools sports teams. And then remember the catholic church became totally aligned with the Republican Party by Pope John Paul II, who is being fast tracked for sainthood by his great friend and his successor Benedict XVI.

For you right wing catholics, that is why I am so angry at the catholic church, my church.

He wants controls put on the flood of ILLEGAL ALIENS crossing our borders, driving down wages, gobbling up our resources and creating problems for everyone here, immigrant and native both.

Big difference but Alternet will make sure you don't see it.
