President Bush today: "These people attacked us before we were even in Iraq!"

Can we have a little frankness, please?

The President of the United States is a racist. Or at the very least, an anti-Muslim bigot.

In Iraq, Shi'ites and Sunni are fighting each other to the death. Under what possible logic can they be joined by a common identity?

There is no "these people" except in their common Middle East-ness.

Iran and Iraq fought a decade-long war - Shia against Sunni. They are, to our president, "these people." "They" attacked us. "They" continue to attack us. Iran, Iraq: all the same.

The people who attacked us on September 11 were from a group called "al Qaeda." According to U.S. intelligence, Iraq was one of the few countries in the Middle East where Al Qaeda did not have a beachhead.

In the 1960s, to much of the public, China and Russia were equally "these people." Even as those countries were on the verge of nuclear war with one another. Bad people stoked the equivalence of the two even after they knew better (Richard Nixon did it nearly until the day he made China our ally). They did it to keep a monstrous war going, as the American people began to know better.

It's much worse now. Who are "these people," Mr. President? Why are you worse than McCarthy?

Digg!

... that the entire idea of "fight them there, not here" idea is inherently racist when one realizes that the "there" is an area where "they" were not to be found before our invasion. American (read: white) lives are FAR more important than Iraqi (brown) lives... so if they have to die en masse for our (quiestionable) safety, that is better than us dying to fight our enemy.

Correction to the correction: George Bush is a wealthy narcissistic class-oppressor

George Bush doesn't care about God, Jesus, Hitler, oil, 911 or any of it. Its really quite simple. He wants to make America his ranch, and he wants the lazy squatters (i.e. the rest of us) to start clearing the Bush.

He puts on his republican, racist, fascist, or theocratic masks whenever they are useful, but his only true dedication is to himself. Let's be clear... he's not a true fascist because he's not trying to hand over power to a corporate-state cartel, he wants it for himself. He's not a true theocrat because he doesn't want God to be our dictator, he wants it for himself.

Fascists rely on the demonization of "the other" to create a false sense of cohesion and permisiveness of a repressive state. It is the milk in their cereal. and Bush finds this to be a useful tactic. But the fact is, Bush wouldn't mind having a Muslim over for a barbeque, as long as it was a rich and powerful Muslim. And as long as the rich and powerful Muslim would (eventually) defer to him. Same goes with Jews, gays, everyone is invited to be in his inner circle. As long as they bow down, and bend over.

For he is the great decider. Live with it.

communist infiltration into many aspects of American government and non-government organisations. The declassified KGB and Stasi documents prove it, as do the de-classified British and American documents. McCarthy was WRONG about how to combat the infiltration and in his rhetoric and 'witch-hunting'. Even eminent historians, like Fritz Stern who by no means are 'neo-cons', admit that there was much spying and inflitration (and attempts) by the Soviet Bloc into Western governments and organisations. Even support of outright terrorism and criminal attacks in Western countries.

Great. So now the admin's argument has become: "Well WE didn't screw it up, it was already broken".

Does anyone else feel like he is an 8-year-old blaming his kid brother for knocking over pottery in a store? You break it you bought it indeed..

(as has already been noted, what is happening now is not related to what happened on 9/11, except that we invaded Iraq because of it.. his argument now is another attempt to create a global bogeyman. too bad this pathetic excuse seems to be working)

President Bush is not a bigot. He is a mass murderer. He has killed more than half a million, and counting.

Your neighborhood serial killer is absolutely nobody, not even on the radar screen, compared to the Butcher of Washington.

Bush has already caught up with Idi Amin, who killed somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000, and he is rapidly closing in on Pol Pot, who murdered up to 700,000 people.
