This is a guest post from the Sierra Club's Josh Dorner.

Many say that Washington D.C. is like Hollywood for ugly people. True to form, a couple weeks ago politicos from one side of the Beltway to the other were regaled (reviled?) by "MC" Rove's performance at a dinner for broadcast journalists.

Based on his actions at last weekend's annual prom for DC journalists -- better known as the White House Correspondents Association dinner -- Rove apparently didn't like it when real Hollywood types stepped onto his turf and brought up the apparently taboo subject of the Bush administration's policy on global warming.

Fresh off a college tour calling for action on global warming, Sheryl Crow and An Inconvenient Truth producer Laurie David approached Rove at the gala to ask him to take a fresh look at the science of global warming. According to David, Rove immediately became combative and "regurgitated the administration's position." Things really got hot and heavy when Rove attempted to brush them off and turn back to his table, prompting Crow to reach over and touch his arm. Rove then yelled "don't touch me!" (Is anyone else surprised that Sheryl Crow didn't immediately turn to stone upon touching him?)

In my own mind, tables were then thrown over and some sort of mass food fight commenced. Alas no, but the real exchange is still pretty sweet:

Crow and David: "You can't speak to us like that, you work for us."
Rove: "I don't work for you; I work for the American people."
Crow: "We are the American people."

(Just look at Karl "turd blossom" Rove -- you'd think he'd be more than happy to be touched by Sheryl Crow, or anyone not wearing gloves for that matter.)

Since fiddling while the planet burns is oh-so-funny, White House Distorter-in-Chief Dana Perino joked that "Karl just wanted to have some fun...the president's record on climate change is very strong." I'm not sure which is worse, that pun using a Sheryl Crow song title or that outright lie about the Bush environmental record?

I'm still waiting for the cage match between Al Gore and Dick Cheney.

Digg!
