Okay, this is getting very disturbing. Steven M. Biskupic, the Wisconsin US Attorney who prosecuted what turned out to be a "beyond thin" case against an offcial associated with the Democratic Gov. of Wisconsin, had been on the Gonzales "fire him" list, but Mr. Biskupic's name was mysteriously taken off at some point. This story is now a page one HEADLINE in today's statewide Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

As the Journal Sentinel and McClatchey Report: Steven M. Biskupic, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, was once targeted for firing by the U.S. Justice Department but given a reprieve for reasons that remain unclear, McClatchy News Service reported Friday.

Biskupic on firing list, source says: U.S. attorney received a reprieve that saved his position, though Congressional investigators looking into the firings of eight U.S. attorneys saw Biskupic's name on a list of attorneys targeted for removal when they were inspecting a department document not yet made public, an attorney for a lawmaker involved in the investigation told McClatchy. The attorney asked for anonymity because of the political sensitivity of the investigation.

It wasn't clear when Biskupic was added to a department hit list of prosecutors, or when he was taken off, or whether those developments were connected to a just-overturned corruption case.

Nevertheless, McClatchy reported that the disclosure aroused investigators' suspicion that Biskupic, who is based in Milwaukee, might have been retained in his job because he agreed to prosecute Democrats. Such politicization of the administration of justice is at the heart of congressional Democrats' concerns over the Bush administration's firings of the U.S. attorneys.

Last year, Biskupic prosecuted Wisconsin state purchasing supervisor Georgia Thompson on corruption charges. A federal appeals court last week threw out Thompson's conviction, saying the evidence was "beyond thin."

Mr Biskupic issued a statement in which he noted that he consulted with Democratic prosecutors on the case. I'll be back with more on this later.

Wis. State employee found "Not Guilty" of charges by U.S. Attorney

The state employee who was imprisoned had lost her job, her life savings, her home, and her good name in this debacle. What is even more eggrigious is the fact that the prosecutor, or I should say persecutor wanted her to spend more time in prison because she "refused to take responsibility".....you think? What is even more unbelievable is that 2 of the 3 appeal judges were appointed by republicans and how often do you hear a panel of judges order an immediate release on the very day they hear arguments? This woman has already served four months of the 18 month sentence and thankfully steps are being made for her to regain her job, obtain back pay and "bill" the State of Wisconsin for legal fees.

I feel confident that Sen. Feingold, Sen. Kohl and Rep. Baldwin will get to the bottom of this matter.

Sissy

This was a travesty of the worst kind and someone needs to be held accountable.

No, this is not getting very disturbing. It's been like this since November 2000. This is a condescending middle finger being wagged at the citizenry by a bunch of cornered rabid dogs now that their trainers left them behind for some public relations/lobbyst scam with lots of money, like, oh, the World Bank comes to mind, for instance.
I know most of us can't comprehend the level of chutzpah and corruption this people are throwing on our faces because is beyond anything the United States ever set to become before becoming a successful nation, and before getting overrun by an international clepto/plutocrat oligarchy using us to safeguard their worldwide assets, and their acolyte's asses.

These bastards intend to be America's PRI and rule for 70 years through corruption, vote fraud, intimidation and criminalization of the Democrats.

I'm not usually considered naive - I wasn't at all surprised that a prosecutor would be fired for pursuing corrupt Republicans, but even I was shocked to find out that the vast majority of prosecutions of state and local officials in recent years have been of Democrats - and to realize that Rove's "permanent Republican majority" would be gained through not only vote rigging and voter suppression - standard rethug tactics - but usung the official weight of the "Justice Department" to frame Democrats.

This is TREASON! It is subversion of the constitution and all participants in this criminal attempt to overthrow the constitutional government of our country should be given a fair trial - then hung.
