It's repulsive enough that Kleenex actually boasts that its tissues come from "virgin forests," but do we really want to explore the pyschosocial meaning of the appeal of razing said "virgin" forests?

No. Not really.

But we certainly DO want to watch and forward this video from Greenpeace's action to raise awareness of this irresponsible corporate behavior.

There are at least two reasons why you don't want to miss this: 1.) It's fun. That's all. That's the important part of any activism. It makes the lives of the people who do it more exciting, fun and meaningful -- which this action clearly does and 2.) They're not calling anyone evil or advocating for the disbanding of Kleenex's parent company Kimberly Clark. They're just saying, you know, please stop this totally unnecessary and irresponsible behavior so we can blow our noses without worrying about sullying some virgin.... er, forest.

And think of this.. and every other paper and wood product we use every day the next time someone tells you how industrialism can be sustainable over the long term just as long as we ramp up our technology (and our consumption to pay for it all through profits) and get rid of that pesky global warming.. and then not worry about anything else when it comes to the environment.

Think about the tree farms that won't last past the third generation of growth because they can't sustain a soil that would actually allow it. Think of all the rainforests we have cut down and are still cutting down.

Industrialized consumerism is not sustainable.

It's going to take organization and work to save the planet from ourselves. I think that is the most important part of this video.

Most people think that Rosa Parks was just some woman who was tired and didn't want to give up her seat. They aren't told by the MSM, how she was a dedicated actavist and part of an organized attempt to change the racist laws that she experienced.

Thanks again for showing that actavism can be meaningful and fun at the same time.

A 'So What'-ish Response Invoked

'Video' is a good way to get out the "Using 'Virgin' Wood Kills Additional Trees"-message (coz sometimes people don't learn-from/respond-to anything short of a senses-filling experience ... I'm sure a tactile comparison would also help; would you rather be rained-upon with a load of Kleenex's material [virgin wood] or a load of 'paper to be recycled'?), but it might be more-effective to have a company who builds forests come out against Kimberley-Clark.

What a great idea. I support it completely, but I was cringing watching these activists passing out hundreds (thousands?) of pieces of paper to advertise their campaign to be more ecological!!
