As it became apparent to even the most ardent authoritarians that no WMD would be found in Iraq, the supposedly unimpeachable logic that came pouring out was: The world is a better place without Saddam Hussein.

On the soundbite circuit, dems and many others were forced to concede that point for fear of being one who seemed to "prefer" Saddam.

But lately, from Iraqis themselves, the counter-cry is gaining volume: Even Saddam was better than this.

First, there was this Iraqi woman confronting John Bolton on a recent BBC program, claiming that she's lost more relatives during the 4-year US occupation than during Saddam's entire reign.

Now, the man who actually brought down the statue of Saddam regrets supporting the "coalition" forces and actually says, what was once so "unthinkable" it was used as a republican talking point: "the Americans are worse than the dictatorship..." [watch clip, upper right].

Robert Scheer's latest column deals with this man and the removal of Saddam at length...

Yep, you did it, George -- mission impossible accomplished. Unbelievably, four years of a bungled occupation have managed to make Saddam Hussein's tyranny look good in comparison with "liberated Iraq." More...

Digg!

"If I had a lighter in hands and some oily rags,
Is that what it would take to wake you from your sleep?
To wake up from your american dreams to be surrounded, surrounded in flames!

Wake Up! Wake Up! To the would around you!

If we blocked the streets everyday,
Face down on the pavement as we lay.
You're angered that you're five minutes late.
But what happens next time when we will stop you all day?
Yeah next time, we'll stop you all day!

You got to scream to make your voice heard!
I won't stop screaming, 'TIL MINE IS HEARD!

Wake Up! Wake Up! To the would around you!

And it's the same song, sung at the top of our lungs.
SCREAMING FOR FREEDOM & PLEADING FOR LIBERTY!
FREEDOM!"

Stupid neo-cons and those who think Moslems can have 'democracy'.

The article (and the situation in Iraq) proves the point that you can't force a backwards people into a democracy. The moslems (whether in Arabia, Indonesia, Persia, Algeria, or in Europe) have proven time and time again that they don't WANT democracy, they don't UNDERSTAND democracy, and that you can't force them into the 20th (or even the 18th) century. These countries need to sort out their own mess. Let them kill each other off in intercine warfare, family feuds, sectarian vigilantiam, or outright wars. Who cares? Let's bring the troops home and let their evil natures take care of the problem. No more war funding, no more US AID, no more loans, no more disaster relief, no more help with famines, no more meddling at all. And no more trade with them. Put them in a virtual seige. Yes, oil will cost more BUT if you take into the savings on military spending, fat no-bid rebuilding contracts, and the foriegn aid to backwards countries we will still SAVE money. The only thing we need to ensure is that no more moslems from these countries are allowed to enter Europe (or the USA.)

How to Tell

I've said from the start of this affair that there is a simple way to tell if a people are ready for democracy:

They take up arms, assault their oppressors and establish one.

Iraq was definitely not ready. No surprise, since it is not a nation. It's borders are drawn in such a way as to guarantee conflict, preventing the state from unifying and becoming a political power. This is not an error. It was planned that way for good (for the West) reasons. Until the borders are fixed, only an unstable totalitarian regime will be able to function there.

People tell the truth it was never about democracy .It has always been about the oil and control of the middle east. Once you admit that truth then everything makes sense. People are less important than oil and profits, don't you see? That is why we need to get our forces out of the country and maybe the Saudis and Iranians will quit funding the insurgents and terrorists. But Bush and Co know there are profits to be made all around and since their regime is soon to be over, they have to get all they can.

Since the violence is primarily in only 3 out of Iraq's 18 provinces, what if enough security was provided to further the political process. Never mind why we went to war, we have to have this come to the best conclusion. And if our troops could come home leaving Iraq a country that could govern, sustain and defend itself, wouldn't that be a good thing?
