In an impassioned speech before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday, Democratic Chairman Joe Biden ripped into the president and Republicans, asking them, essentially, "What the hell is your plan? What the hell are you thinking? Where can this end up?"

Biden lists the various casus belli (bellies?) and notes that all have either been flat out wrong or dealt with, causing him to state, a bit cautiously, that the mission "no longer has the force of law."

We could've used this speech 3 years ago -- it's been clear that there's no military solution to Iraq for some time now -- but now that the public will is overwhelmingly there, the politicians are, bit by bit, following....

i agree that we could have used this three years ago. if the president were to directly respond to biden i imagine his talking points would be something to the effect of "need some wood?", "americans are good people." and "this is a global conflict that requires firm resolve."

Respectfully disagreeing with the praise posted here.

Biden did as much as anybody to start this war. He's an opportunist- it's easy to act mad at the war now that the population wants out. If it had gone well, he'd be trying to take all the credit for invading Iraq.

When they held pre-war hearings on the "threat", Biden said (paraphrasing) "If Saddam is in power 5 years from now, we'll have failed." In other words, he was seeking regime change from the start.

A typical liberal critique (see Thomas Friedman) is "It was a great idea, noble intentions, but Bush messed up our great plans." I don't buy it.

Here's Scott Ritter, prewar, talking about Biden's influence on the drive to war.

Ritter on Biden

Let's not forget that during the hearings to confirm Gonzales for Atty. General (whom we all knew to be a criminal and a scumbag) Biden was the one who stood there licking his ass saying, "I like you.... You're the real deal... " over and over he said it. Don't get excited about anyone, they're all the same. obama stands for nothing, hillary has been bought long ago, biden is a company man, democrats are so impressionable and hang on to the illusion of hope. they are all beholden to the military industrial and won't do anything to really shut those killers down. there will be more false flag terrorist events like 911 and more war, more war, more war. Make no mistake.

On September 13, 2001 you had a meeting with Lt. General Mahmoud Ahmed, head of the Pakistani ISI. Care to tell us what you talked about?

Lt. General Ahmed was later found to have ordered Omar Sayeed Sheikh to wire transfer $100,000 to Mohammed Atta shorty before 9/11/01. When this information became public Gen. Ahmed quickly retired from the ISI. The FBI has verified these facts.

Care to comment, Senator Biden?

Sorry y'all, the Democrats are just as dirty as the Republicans. Snap out of this phony left-right paradigm. We, the people, have to do the work that needs to be done. No one else is going to do it for us.

9/11 Truth is the sword that will slay this corrupt beast.

The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward.

"They are all the same" song and dance that so many use to excuse themselves from participating as citizens. "They" have all been elected by the people. If more people didn't dismiss all politicians and candidates as "all the same" then we would have more representatives in government that are not "all the same".

the ONLY people showing courage are the soldiers? HA! again, the grassroots effort to end this madness is marginallised by some asshole looking for an opportunity for sel-egrandisment...

SELF SUSTAINING SECTARIAN VIOLENCE? Does this idiot know anything about Iraq and it's history? Self sustaining my ass. It has taken tonnes of US and British troops and loads of black op bombings and western media collusion to help create this tool of occupation, and still we are not in rawanda. what a load of crap. Foriegn created sectarian violence is the reality. how difficult do you think an occupying army would take to create a bloody race war in an occupied america? a week? a month? a year?
No, iraq was no paradise under Sadam the american puppet. You want to look to see where the real answer is, then look to the iraq that existed shortly after the british occupiers were sent packing. no dictator in that real pluralistic society where all participated...

Just shut up and get the hell out. This is not an opportunity for joe to tell us how smart he is, and recognize that america has ZERO credability as a peace maker.

Hold it right there!
About Biden for president:
anyone that TAKES this long to come out pissed is no presidential potential in my book.
There have been very few "leaders" who have had the guts and THE INTEGRITY to get outside their mindset keeping re-elected, of failing to piss off a large enough group of voters that just might have precluded this 6 year interlude of mendacious and dangerous fascists in the white houe { I will "capitalize " that when the are gone from that domicile.
In the meantime don't jump to every politician that is now trying to save their butts for the next election. An none too vociferous at that!. So, again, HOLD THOSE ACCOLADES FOR THE JOHNNY-COME-LATELYS.
They are only playin catch up with the rest of who have known ALL ALONG that the white house was the only AXIS OF EVIL operative in the past five years.
You {we} still have a herculean task ahead of us. You have only just begun.
BLESS YOU FOR THAT! and make "stay the course" into a new meaning to divert the crimibals at the wh.
Before Bush was in office six months I was screaming IMPEACHMENT.
