And fits beautifully with this find from Firedoglake of a Chicago Tribune blog post:

President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush had dinner last night at the home of Karl and Darby Rove in the upscale Palisades neighborhood of Washington.

When a pool reporter following the president's intown travel stationed outside dispatched an email to Rove inside, asking if the architect of the president's campaigns could spare a doggy bag for the press van, sure enough — out came an emissary bearing a gift of sausage and quail wings.

The press had already called in a pepperoni-and-mushroom pizza from Domino's, but the host's contribution to the press van feast was the most excitement seen outside this residence in a while.

Although she didn't really say it, it is a Marie Antoinette moment of "let them eat cake." And just as Bush and Rove and their "echelon" of socio-economic status have no knowledge of, or real empathy for the middle-class (much less the underclass); I am sensing that the American masses (or maybe just the media) have already lost interest in the VA scandal. The administration has weathered a few rough days of questioning on their commitment to "support" the troops in the face of the abysmal conditions at their "jewel in the crown" VA facility. But, the story seems to be falling off the radar. The systemic problems in the VA system, the underfunding, and the outsourcing will disappear from our consciousness with the next "Anna Nicole" moment. And, I fear, that will be that. The wounded and permanently disabled can be ignored with much more alacrity than the Katrina victims, after all, most of them are shunted away in facilities that we never see and don't know where they are. Unlike New Orleans, they aren't on the map.

.. that the press begs food from the president and his advisors.

Nothing like a fair and unbiased press.

during dinner with George and Laura.

Was he that bored? Checking his Blackberry under the table?
Or was he showing W how to use the internets to check his email?

Incredible. Dinner with the prez, not much to talk about. What the heck, let's check email.

So sad it's almost funny.
