This is insane. Boltgirl finds this interesting tidbit in a recent NPR segment about the evangelical vote.

Buried in the middle of this, almost as a non-sequitur, was a snippet from a woman named Tammy Bennett, described as decked from head to toe in silver. I'm not going to bother dissecting Ms. Bennett's call for protecting the sanctity of marriage; that was predictable given the context of the story. My attention was piqued much more by the tiny biographical blurb provided:

Bennett is the founder of Makeover Ministries, which she describes as "inspiring women to look good from the inside out and to be supermodels for Christ. And it's based on Proverbs: 'just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.'"

Supermodels for Christ. Supermodels. For Christ.

Gotsta look hot for the lord.

Apparently Bennett has written a book, Looking Good from the Inside Out, where she tells girls that "beauty is a choice and it all begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ." And eyeshadow. Sigh.

unfortunately it was lost in the trip down from the mountain. Glad to see the religious right wackos and rediscovered this law and are putting into force. I imagine it might have been found in the Dead Sea Scrolls which were supressed by the British archealogists who found them recognising the ramifications on so many British and American women.

It was good enough for Lot's daughters, it should be good enough for us.

And if you get raped by some "good christian man" it isn't his fault, but yours for putting on makeup like some hoochie-mama.

Jesus, we women just can't seem to win in the Christian point of view.

this really puts the cherry on the cake of my day... i've thought for a long time that (some) christians were extremely gullible, low IQ knuckle-draggers. i wonder if tammy faye inspired this cosmetic line? (OK, that was mean-spirited. and i didn't see any blue eye shadow). of course, there are non-christians who are as dumb, shallow, and overly/poorly made up, but "looking good for the anti-christ" is unlikely to be a workable sales slogan.

I was in the grocery store the other day and passed a big bin of books for sale. On the top I noticed one called (and I wish I were making this up) "God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook." I looked it up on Amazon and indeed, one of the chapters is on "beauty secrets." The book is supposed to be for girls age 4-8, but one comment on the Amazon site indicates that the writer has purchased it for her daughters' 2nd birthday.
