Two low-level elections workers from Cuyahoga County, Ohio, were each convicted of a felony for "negligent misconduct of an elections employee. They also were convicted of one misdemeanor count each of failure of elections employees to perform their duty."

According to the prosecutors, they were "secretly reviewing preselected ballots before a public recount."

UPDATE: Video right, is from HBO's Hacking Democracy.

And of course, Ohio tipped the election to Bush. But this is no smoking gun -- though it is another exposed gear in the dirty election fraud machinery, to be sure.

Though the AP article is a bit short on meat, we are fortunate enough to have the Black Box Voting folks all over this one.

Not only are these two employees taking the heat while the higher ups aren't even being questioned (Elections Board Director Michael Vu and County Board of Elections chair Bob Bennett), but it looks like the convicted workers' defense attorney happens to be a former Chairman of the Board of Elections back in '95.

This is no huge coincidence, of course, nor is it likely to signal anything particularly nefarious, as he is the person most familiar with the numerous and arcane laws governing elections in Ohio.

The one thing that does give one pause is the fact that, as Black Box points out, the defense lawyer didn't appear to push his clients toward a plea bargain, despite the fact that they were videotaped doing something that violated the law.

That sounds like some crappy lawyering.

Black Box notes that if these workers were just, as they claimed, following procedure, is it plausible to wonder whether illegal "procedures" had been in place since his years as chairman?

Digg!

Just like MiLai, AbuGhrabe, and numerous other places - it's always "bad apple" little guys who take the fall. The higher ups never are found guilty of anything! And don't forget Ollie North taking the fall for Reagan!

Ollie North is not an american patriot he is nothing more than a rethuglikkkan criminal. He should have spent the rest of his life in jail as should have Reagan, Bush41 and now Bush43 and his entire creww of criminals. Next comes Jeb Bush who will do the same things that dumbya has done but the rethugs will learn from Bush43 and Jeb will do a more slick and far more corrupt job and never get caught. Because that is the way rethugs are and think.

The last decent republican was Ike Eisenhower, and even he made some major errors like starting the Vietnam debacle by sending Military Advsory Groups(MAGS) into Vietnam. Ike also used the CIA to put the SHAH of Iran into power and Iran once a very pro-western country is and has been our enemy since the 1950's.

Why in the name of all that is holy do we americans wonder why so many gov'ts hate us. Damn, the answer is staring us right in the face, they hate us because of how we disrespect, destabilize their country for only our benefit, and for how we treat them.

Both rethug prezs' and Dem prezs' have done these things. If any country tried to do to us what we have done to many, many other countries we would 'nuke them back to the stone age'. That was a repub(Cheney or someone like him) who said that.

WAKE UP AMERICA.
And if their are any true christians left in America, rethuglikkkan christians are not true christians in any sense of the word, but for the true christians please PRAY FOR PEACE before Mr. Boosh and the rethugs push us all over the edge into the abyss of hell.

...and SAW WITH MY OWN EYES how the election was tipped to the Repugnicans!

To think that only two (!) "minor" officials were guilty of irregularities is like holding Lyndie England solely responsible for Abu Ghraib.

Of course, the Repugnican "victory" in Ohio relied most heavily on adroit use of tactics retained from the 1st George Bush, i.e., character assassination and fear mongering. The outright fraud was used to close the tiny margin by which Kerry would still have won without the fraud!

OK let me get this straight......three years after the second time Bush committed election fraud - just two very low level schlubs within Ohio Registrar of Voters are sent to jail. Give me a break. This is pathetic - why has election fraud and rape of democracy being allowed since 2000? Even WORSE is alternet is selling advertising space to the exrecable Hillary Clinton who is a Pro War Hawk on Iraq. The whole thing makes me frankly, want to puke.

I need two things:

#1 A barf bag

32 Emigration to Canada paperwork.

The republic is in peril
