Ari Berman notes that "from the perch of his chairmanship of the Defense Subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee," Jack Murtha will attempt to close Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, stop the escalation, and severely limit Bush's ability to bypass congress, the Constitution, and American tradition.

It's all about the money. Berman continues: "he believes that only money, not words, will get the President's attention."

Not to put too fine a point on it, but words were never his strong suit anyway.

Murtha sketches a plan, supported by Pelosi, whereby the president will have to justify, line by line, his expenditures, or he doesn't get his allowance. Act like a kid, get managed like one...

Berman's report is here.

...Could he arrange to have the monster who would be president and his crew taken to the woodshed while he's about it??? I doubt the horrid child in the white house has ever been disciplined in his entire life.

Another Way

The way to stop the escalation is to draft a bill that restricts soldiers from having to go back to Iraq another time. After all, it's only fair.
No politician could vote against such a law and survive another term.
Also, a law must be made so that private contractors are replaced with service personnel. It's only necessary for our national security: to keep a coup from happening.
