Feministing's Jessica Valenti, undoubtedly depressed at this distinctly anti-abstinence finding, writes:

Scientists say that promiscuity can increase women’s chances of having healthier babies.

Promiscuity in some mammals results in greater competition between sperm, with the winner having the best genes.

In controlled tests, each of 17 female marsupials mated with the same three males. In another group, 19 females were forced to be monogamous and take only one mate.

After the offspring were born, the more polyandrous females were found to have young attached to every teat.

The proportion of each litter that survived was three times greater for the females that had mated with several partners.

In fact, and this is hysterical to me, "scientists claim that, in chimpanzees, the female reproductive tract becomes a battlefield between competing sperm… There is even evidence 'kamikaze sperm' sacrifice themselves by blocking other sperm."

What are the chances of the Catholic Church massaging this into the doctrine? Give it a millennium. (Feministing)

The red states have the highest rates of infidelity and other 'non-family values' behavior in our country, but cling to their cherished myths about their moral superiority. Kind of like their stance on homosexuality. When is anyone in the MSM going to call them on this?

This seems like old news to me.

I recall seeing something along these lines like... ten years ago, at least. They were talking about strategies males use to keep other males from impregnating the given female. Soft plug vs. hard plug. In some cases, there's an actual barrier that forms (that's the hard plug).

In the case of humans, it's a soft plug. That is, the barrier is in the form of sperm that will try to block the sperm from another male. This is nothing new. Not to say it isn't interesting, but how recent is this research really?

Fems for Forn

Yeah, not a new idea, but a new research method to support the hypothesis.

Also interesting to note (as per 1st comment) that the LOWEST rate of divorce in the country is Mass.... that sinful haven of gay marriage. The highest rate is Nevada (think drunken marriages to Vegas Elvis Impersonators) but the top ten is filled with Bible Belt states.

You have to be careful not to confuse correlation with causation, though. Who knows what it is specifically that leads to the results.

Just for interests' sake: Fems for Forn

Giving three males unfettered access to 17 females is good for the species. Who'd have thought that feministing would be the ones to trumpet such a finding?

Borat's Protest Sign...

If you've seen the movie "Borat", you've experience some dark humor. And isn't this a time for joviality? You know it is!

Borat got converted to christianity at a big box revival in the movie. Here's the joke: Nowadays, when Borat goes to protest marches, he's one of those Jesus pricks carrying signs condemning everyone to hell. Borat's sign reads:

Believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ
and thou shalt get laid.

Hah Hah!

Thank you Lord, for bitch-slapping them God-damned republicans!

Oh yeah!

Is it necessary to refer to women who chose different sexual partners as sluts. The article is very interesting, why lose your point by telling us to become sluts?

What does this have to do with humans?

I don't get it. They are talking about marsupials. And litters. Remember, most fur bearing "animals" can have litters with multiple fathers. Humans can not. It is that simple. How can you compare an animals ability to have multiple sired litters to humans, who have the ability to have one pup, I mean infant at a time (except for multiple births, which is our anomily). This sounds like a distraction to me.
Why are we not discussing progressive issues that are important to us as a society?

Science reporting?

Actually it was proven in the 19th century by really good scientists that all of nature was put here for our moral instruction. Now that Democrats have finally taken over congress, it's time to get back to basics and promote the true lessons of nature. First of all, it is actually the golden silk spider (Nephila clavipes) that God put on this earth to instruct us on how mate. We know this to be a true fact fact for a number of reasons, but mainly because they're golden and golden is Godly. Also it's shocking to heathens which makes it super true. Therefore should we not promote legislation that makes it legal for women to dine on their men after mating?

But seriously folks, I hope AlterNet won't emulate the decline of daytime talk show television which went from manufacturing counterfeit controversies to peddling fad gossip, fad diets, fad psychology, fad spiritualism, and assorted other horrors.
