Michael J. Fox, who is suffering from Parkinson's Disease, made an ad for Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill, a Democrat challenging Republican incumbent Jim Talent who does not support stem cell research. In the ad (below), Fox is seen exhibiting what is likely chorea, a movement disorder caused by the chronic use of dopamine agonists in relation of Parkinson's.

After seeing the ad, Rush Limbaugh, ever the despicable heap of shit, accused Fox of either deliberately going off his meds to exaggerate symptoms of his disease for dramatic effect or of simply "acting."

I stated when I saw the ad, I was commenting to you about it, that he was either off the medication or he was acting. He is an actor, after all.

Wow. That's almost unbearably heinous.

And maybe Christopher Reeve, another stem cell research advocate, isn't dead, either. He's just a really good actor.

I wonder if it ever occured to Limbaugh that, even if Fox had gone off his meds, that Fox would simply have looked like the many Americans with Parkinson's who can't afford, or don't have healthcare to cover, the best meds (or any) to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's, so they look just like he does and worse. That's what the disease looks like.

Not that Limbaugh cares while he's taking his loathsome cheap shots.

Limbaugh "on" drugs?

There is a certain irony in Mr. Limbaugh commenting on another person's drug use, or lack thereof. He and Senator Frist should open a long-distance video diagnostic clinic.

You Should See The "Other Side's Ads"

I've seen the ad out here in Missouri. [Which is also Rush's home state.] In the ad, Michael Fox appeared to show signs of symptoms known respectively as tardive dyskinesia with athetosis. Athetosis is the twisting and writhing Limbaugh was evidently referring to when he stated that Fox was probably "acting."

I don't claim to be a neurological expert (I'm an RN who's worked in Nerological ICUs) but people in the more advanced stages of Parkinsonism often show these symptoms even if compliant with their medication regimens. That drug regimen can be substantial -- including anti-convulsives, anti-psychotics, and levadopamine. It's also known that relatively small changes in metabolism can lead to a significant increases in dysrhythmic movement.

I guess it's a good thing Mr. Fox doesn't have a Vioxx dependency problem or engages in forgery and racketeering to feed his drug habit. A narc could spot him coming a mile away.

Meanwhile, a Missouri organization opposed to stem cell research -- www.nocloning.org -- has started to show ads featuring a teenage girl who went for a pregnancy termination and became an "egg farm" for an unscrupulous medical establishment bent on "buying" millions of ova. The ad implies consequences up to and including death for otherwise unsuspecting young women.

For the record: 1) The Missouri Stem Cell Research Amendment specifically bans cloning while allowing for other forms of stem cell research, and 2) Michael J. Fox most likely will not be around to utilize the advances made possible via stem cell research for the treatment of neurological disorders.

I never thought I'd wish Parkinsons on anyone other than our "Dear Leader". He deserves it since he banned federal funding for stemcell research. I now wish the same for Rush.

Limbaugh later backed off from his original editorifart (though, not completely), but we all know the strategy here. It's the framing that counts. All he has to do is plant the seed... the wingnuts'll take it from there.

Limpballs is the LAST PERSON ON EARTH that should criticize Michael J. Fox, who is not only suffering from the disease and still speaking out, but who is a really nice guy (I know first hand). Limpballs, who recently got caught with Viagra prescribed to someone else, just off the boat from the Dominican Republic, where one suspects he was most likely diddling underage prostitutes, should shut his fat piehole. This f'ing PIG squirmed out of military duty because he had a cyst on his ass. That ought to tell you something. And yet, he is the voice of the right. He is the most popular rightwing bush shill, and some idiots actually DO listen to him.

I think George Carlin was correct when he said that, horrifying as it might be, those people you see on Jerry Springer aren't freaks, they are the NORM.

What the hell has this country become while listening to self-serving assholes like Limpballs spew their hate speech?

Gawd.

I'd expect Limbaugh to trumpet how it was a deliberate assasination attempt by the liberal - or an attempt to damage the car out of sheer spite.

If someone gave this man a brain cell, the poor thing would die of lonliness... or disgust.

Rush is a Big Fat Frat Boy

when Reagan died of alzheimer his widow let the press know she was pro-stem cell research. I think she lobbied Bush but to no avail. Rush L used to be a big Reagan booster. But he won't take on Nancy Reagan because he would piss off wealthy conservatives.

Rush is a fat hypocrite as others note. He is really the prototypical obnoxious frat boy, making cruel and ignorant jokes, insensitive to anyone who suffers, who only thinks about his own pleasure. He is a Big Baby.

However, Good for Michael J. I thought M had stopped the meds for the ad and that would be quite appropriate to illustrate how a Parkinson victim can lose control.

Drug Addict And Former Welfare Recipient Rush Limbaugh

Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
What I'd like to know is: is it true that MJF goes off the meds for certain public appearances. If so, then Rush didn't say anything wrong- but I think "Suburban_Dad" had the most insightful comment, that the rightwing machine will take it to the next step. He's just planted a seed- when rightwingers can't win a debate they inevitably just try to find "dirt"- ANY dirt will do- on their opponents.

We should all start referring to Rush Limbaugh as "Drug Addict And Former Welfare Recipient Rush Limbaugh" every single time we use his name. He admitted- years and years ago on his radio program- that he was unemployed and on welfare and running up credit card bills buying junkfood from 7-11s. Everyone in America should know that when he talks about how the poor of America don't need food stamps because they are already too fat- he is PROJECTING his own self-hatred (ala Foley talking about "internet perverts").

Ironically, Rush has likely done irreperable damage to his dopaminergic system via his illegal use of drugs. He's already gone partially deaf from it; doubtlessly more is to come. (I am a neuroendocrinology researcher).

Correction, no make that an addendum, he's full of shit and full of Oxycodone or oxycontin. Michael J. Fox is what, faking it? I didn't realize Mr. Limbaugh was trained in neurological maladies. Perhaps he studied under Dr. Frist who feels perfectly at ease diagnosing people he watches on video. In reality it seems his drug addled brain was apparently fried along with his inner ear from the years of narcotics abuse. He spews forth such a noxious bile only the truly disturbed could follow such a dolt. His probation officer should subject him to more frequent urine tests to verify he is in compliance with the conditions of his probation. Sounds like he has slipped back to the drugs. Has anybody talked to his housekeeper/ drug courier lately? I have a special saying for scumbags like Rush and it goes like this: If you shoved his brain in a gnats ass it would rattle like a BB in a box car.

I am fascinated by, and take note of the rapacious and egomaniacal personalities of the likes of Rush Limbaugh and his ilk, as they push their own envelope -- when they sense the winds are blowing in their favor. They rant and rave with omnipotent knowing as they manipulate and indoctrinate those who are helpless (or just too lazy)to think for themselves.

And then I watch in amazement and disgust as they shift ever so subtly and gradually away from their pig iron poses -- when the winds shift against them -- when public opinion no longer holds itself as steadfast in their words, as they do in themselves.

Opportunists like John Roberts, Wolf Blitzer, Pat Buchanan, and even O'Riley on occasion, have backed off on their right-wing Blitzkrieg, tempering themselves in desparation to appear as having personal integrity.

Yet I see so clearly through them, and I am not alone.

Sadly for some, and gleefully for themselves, they will continue onward, reaping the rewards of their prostitution.

But really, as obvious as he is-- can Rush?

Rush - Insensitive and Manipulative

Limbaugh is the poster boy for all that is wrong with our current political system. Rather than two parties providing for healthy debate with a focus on what is best for our country and its citizenry, it is all about one party doing all it can to destroy the other. Limbaugh doesn't care about the country, he cares about red dominating - no - eliminating blue from the spectrum. In this case, he wants to deflect the discussion away from Fox's message and on to Fox's delivery of the message. What he has done is so audacious that for the next couple of weeks all we will talk about is his insensitivity and the symptoms of Parkinsons. The actual issues related to stem cell research and curing the illness will likely take a back seat. By then, the elections will have come and gone and Rush will have done his dirty job.....

My brother-in-law who happens to be a surgeon and a Republican at that! is wealthy enough to afford all the medications needed...and they are plenty and very expensive too...to combat his Parkinsons disease. I saw him when I went home for my class reunion and he had the same uncontrollable movement of his head going back and forth and back and forth while he was talking. And he was completely medicated...he does not miss his meds because my sister makes sure everything is laid out properly each day. So no Rush! it was no act! and you should be so lucky as not to have this horrendous disease...but we all know there is karma and what goes around comes around...What motivates this man is incredible gall and probably a few more doses of vitriole provided by his drug addiction which should have landed him in jail with all the other druggies he has encouraged us should be locked up for life. And as for people believing him...I have a chat buddie in Wyoming who unfortunately cannot seem to find anything else to watch in his Repug stronghold, and yes he believes Rush and thinks Fox was duped or that he only supports stem research as prescribed by that Rat of a Pope that still rules the minds of so many quasi Christian Catholics in this country. May insanity rule the day! We are already in the universe envisioned by Kafka and we must question the veracity of everything we hear. I truly believe that people in this country have been literally driven insane by the likes of people like Rushbaugh and the entire Republican machine! ....which is just what they want! How long will it take to clean up the mess?

to describe Limpboy and his comments. It's one thing when he lays down his typical hypocritical bashings. When you attack someone with a serious disease that has symptoms that they cannot control is beyond repugnant. I can only wish a disease 10 times worse than Parkinson's on Limpboy so he will suffer the most unimaginable slow suffering and death. So unimaginable it will be legendary in Hell. While he suffers, we will all gather around him and while he cries out in gruesome agony because of all the pills he's popped over the years has dwindled his tolerance and just tell him, "Oh, you're just acting."

As far as I'm concerned, now that he has shown the audacity to attack someone like Micheal J. fox, Limpboy is now the most vile and repugnant human being on this earth.

I watched the Limbaugh segment you have been discussing and I saw something different than you saw. In fact your comments are totally opposite to what actually was said. Fox admitted that what he did was in fact just as Limbaugh suggested. If we are going to comment let's get the facts right. Also, if we truely want to bring the country together on these medical issues we ought to take them out of the sewer of politics. Fox did his cause real damage by making it a matter of Democrats versus Republicans. He didn't ven get the facts right in Missouri.
