This is a guest post from MyDD's Matt Stoller.

Ok, this is getting really weird.  Lieberman spoksewoman Tammy Sun is simply denying that the Lieberman campaign did anything wrong.

"This is just another reckless charge from a desperate campaign that is obsessed with reliving the primary," said Lieberman spokeswoman Tammy Sun. "The fact is, our attorney has assured us that the petty cash expenditures and the rest of our FEC report is in full compliance with the law's disclosure requirements just as every campaign Joe Lieberman has run for the last 18 years has been."

Who's the lawyer for Lieberman, because I don't believe that any competent lawyer would say anything of the sort. The law is clear.

A political committee may maintain a petty cash fund out of which it may make expenditures not in excess of $100 to any person per purchase or transaction. If a petty cash fund is maintained, it shall be the duty of the treasurer of the political committee to keep and maintain a written journal of all disbursements. This written journal shall include the name and address of every person to whom any disbursement is made, as well as the date, amount, and purpose of such disbursement. In addition, if any disbursement is made for a candidate, the journal shall include the name of that candidate and the office (including State and Congressional district) sought by such candidate.

This is $387,000, in cold hard cash. We're not talking going out and getting donuts for some volunteers here.

This could be a serious legal situation for Lieberman, and he needs to explain it and not just go on the attack. Vote-buying is illegal. And if this were some sort of clerical error, why couldn't Tammy Sun just admit that and have the story go away?

Where is Lamont on this?

I wonder why Lamont isn't all over this story? He has to start beating Lieberman into the ground. Lieberman has too many "corporate doners" who will do anything to keep him in power. He is the double agent who will permit them to donate to a "democrat" and yet be assured that he will vote for their interests.

And so is Lieberman...doesn't matter what the initial behind his name (on the ballot) says...he is a republican through and through.

Notice how used to theft and crime we are becoming, in fact expecting....

... it from our politicians. We don't even howl anymore. In fact, I was impressed with the apathy shown on that passage of the military commissions act of 2006. If it weren't for Olberman, nothing would have been said anywhere. Amazing. So what do you expect about theft of a few hundred thousand dollars???? Nothing.

What I am learning from the top of this nation, is, breaking the law is legal. LOL Its ok to do, go ahead and steal, bribe, conjole, extort, blackmail, and you will get away with it, in fact, heck, get drunk as a skunk and then shoot someone in the face, no problem. You can do whatever you want. No consequences if the amount is under $100,000. I say that is great. Lets go steal something from someone and then lie about it. LOL Oh, my, politics isn't just dirty, its sleazy.

How can Joe Lieberman run in the runoff when he lost the primary. How could he turn to anothe party without the required signatures, and all the rest of the required. Did he put his money up for this post in time before the dealline? Hey, it is obvious he is running on GOP money and clout, otherwise they would never let him run. get rid of him and make him go legal! encluding the extra cash, up in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. It is time to bow out Joe
