The NY State Court of Appeals unanimously upheld the law "which requires company health insurance policies that provide coverage for prescription drugs to include 'coverage for the cost of contraceptive drugs or devices.'"

It's being framed as a violation of religious freedom but the key point is this:

But the exemption devised in 2002, and upheld by the court yesterday, does not apply to church schools, hospitals or organizations that employ and serve people from diverse religious backgrounds.

To qualify for the exemption, the organization must 'primarily' employ and serve members of the same faith.

well, good for New York...'bout time someone stood up to those tyrants...

If ya wanna play the game, go by the rules....and the church seems to always want to dictate the rules to a game they are not supposed to be playing....

Hey! What about the employees and clients of these organizations that are primarily of that faith who DON'T want to be bound by their dogma? What about the women who work there who WANT to, or are already practicing, birth control? Isn't that sort of reverse religious discrimination? Or, maybe inside out discrimination? Think about it.

I work in the insurance industry and recently we had an employer group get a special policy written by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Not only did they exclude voluntary abortions and contraceptives BUT they also requested that voluntary sterlizations NOT be covered under their policy. Guess they're telling their employees "If you want to screw, better be prepared to make babies!" Ugh.......... I hope some employee sues them.

so...one of THREE things is going to happen...

other states will agree and make it illegal to deny prescriptions for contraceptives (YAY!)

OR

catholic companies will now make sure you are a practicing (in all Talibanic senses of the word) Catholic (rr?)

OR

they will just say - go on your husband's/wife's insurance policy - you can't have ours. (boo!)

The Catholic Church is going to have to get a grip on reality and stop its insane mentality that all must live according to its belief.
Reality check for the Pope , time to evolve or risk vanishing in the winds of time. Its time to respect womens rights and LGBT peoples rights to share their Love with one another. instead of always trying to guilt people into submssion using GOD as an excuse, to push the age old crap of discrimination and homophobia.
The Catholic Church cannot continue its agenda to control who loves who and how they take care of themselves and each other. thats what it boils down to.
If the Church wants to participate in reality then it would be wise to respect Womens and LGBT Human Rights and Freedoms to live as they wish.

There'll be more backing and filling to find a way to compensate.

Reading the full story, I see that the same process has already been completed in California, including denial of a Supreme Court appeal. Only 48 more states to go after New York.

The RC church moves like molasses in January and has a provision that allows it to deal with political intransigents like CA and NY. It's called confession and forgiveness.

The mormons lost lawful polygamy long ago but some still practice it. Those who want to drag their feet in defiance of the law can find a million ways to do so. Meanwhile, they need only find a court somewhere that will find for them, and then it can go to the Supreme Court. How many RC's among the Supremes?

Objection of Conscience

As the State could demand that I carry out abortions to non-Catholics in Catholic hospitals, or any other church-sponsored hospitals; I am clearly to defy this law and court decision based on civil disobedience and objection of conscience, as in Acts 5:29 "We should obey God more than men!"

Without self-control and restraint of sexuality men and women are not much more than animals, and the best contraception is to keep those panties on.
