Classically, journalists are taught to seek out "both sides" in any story. It's the most basic mandate, the simplest defense against allegations of bias.

Unfortunately, political consultants have caught up to, and surpassed, the ability for j-schools and reporters themselves, to adjust for gaming the system. That is to say, manufacturing another side, in order to render any malfeasance, no matter how damning or documented the information, into a he-said/she-said situation.

That's how we got to a point after the 2004 elections where not only aren't the actual, documented problems of the election (long lines, intimidation, and other vote suppression tools, like sending misinformation to Kerry voters... to say nothing of the demonstrated insecurity of electronic voting machines) being dealt with, but a whole different set of "problems" are influencing legislation that will make it even more difficult for Americans to get to the polls.

USA Today writes: "At least 11 states have approved new rules for independent voter-registration drives or requirements that voters produce specific forms of photo ID at polling places."

These are in response to Republican allegations that Democrats are pushing "'dead' voters, non-citizen vot[ers] and felon[s]" to register and vote. As Rachel Maddow put it, the laws "just happen to disenfranchise people who tend to vote for Democrats." Ironic to say the least.

But now a report puts the lie to Republican allegations. Much like the recent report that shows a no-win situation in Iraq, this one won't be released until after Americans need the information most -- i.e. to make informed choices in the upcoming election.

According to USA Today, "The bipartisan report by two consultants to the election commission casts doubt on the problem those [Republican-inspired] laws are intended to address." (RachelMaddow)

You have to be blind, dumb or just plain stupid to go to the polls! Both parties are corrupted and the rule of America is in the hands of the Super Rich. We need a revolutionary change over to Socialism and a trashing of the Constitution that is corrupted also. We must side with Hugo Chavez and form a union with his country to insure a constant supply of oil. Think about that!

...You know the place with the hung chads and the prostitute who give the election to shrub in 2000...

It hasn't changed much here in what used to be the sunshine state except to see it is more out in the open than it used to be... The cheating, lying and stealing I mean... I guess they figure since shrub's brother is the governor the crooks don't have to try to hide it...

In any case the most recent primarys we held in Sept the polling places were drastically short on ballots... Not all ballots though, only the ballots for the democraps... I wonder how that happened after they promised to be soooo very diligent about it this year???

Soooo as result, I would like to know what is the BEST method of voting in which I have an option to choose will insure my vote actually counts? Would it be the write in vote, paper ballot or what?

Like so many others, I am sick to death of this criminality and I want to make sure I do whatever I can to protect my vote. I don't like who I have to vote for, Bill "I Vote To Torture" Nelson, but I would rather have a democrap in office than the blatant criminals we have now. So, how do I protect my vote?

It's all an exercise in futility as the winner will be determined by who counts the votes (Diebold and others) It's over! As your combat dodging leader says, "It's (the Constitution)only a god-damned piece of paper." Even if the Dems should win in November corporate America will still rule. Most of the moron majority believe they are living in a democracy. Laughable if it weren't so grim.
