Hazmat specialist Jamie Holly explains why the NY Post's derisive coverage of Keith Olbermann's anthrax scare is a big deal [scathing video right]:

I am a formerly trained hazardous materials specialist and first responder. With that experience and knowledge under my belt, I can only say that the series of events Keith describes is right on. There are set out protocols on every incident and considering all field tests are not 100% accurate and only preliminary, you take all known precautions to make sure the victim(s) and scene are secure. That includes having the victim(s) go to the hospital for necessary testing.

The FBI asked that the media keep this story quiet and they abided by that, with the exception of the NY Post. The fact that the NY Post may have interfered with a federal investigation is not the most disturbing part. Even worse is the tone in which they reported it. The headline alone, "POWDER PUFF SPOOKS KEITH" could very well have caused more damage then the actual reporting. Not only did that headline alert the person who sent the letter that it did reach Keith, but it also makes it sound like the tactic was very effective. This now gives the person fuel to do more of these letters just for the "shock" value.

The Moderate voice has an exhaustive roundup of reactions to the Olbermann/NYPost incident. Happily, even Hugh Hewitt has enough sense to call for an apology from the Post.

Keith Olberman is my new hero in the war against stupidity. I never resist a chance to read his thoughtful and inciteful pieces, and I am never disappointed in them. Thank you AlterNet.

Who's the terrorist now?

Terrorism..... Sending white powder in the mail (whether anthrax or not) to those you do not agree with is nothing more than plain and simple .... terrorism. To not see it and not call it out as anything but terrorism is hypocritical.

Obermann and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart are successful, because they easily recognize, identify and comically scold the bigots and hypocrites in our current political system. Those who attempt to explain away our current administration and their mistakes are nothing more than paid whores who will do whatever it takes to earn their coin.

Until I hear an apology from the Post, or a condemnation by Fox News, they will continue to be recognized as the tabloid trash they are so rightfully identified.

although I never watch Fox or read a Murdoch paper, I have stopped being quiet with people who do. Just an amusing sideline-I was standing in line at Barnes and Noble, an old man (I was suprised he could make it there at all) got in line behind me holding the latest O'Leilly piece of crap. I turned to him and said, "Are you really going to read that, are you really that senile or just too stupid to realize you are being lied to? This country is lucky that most of his followers are as close to death as you are."

He started to sputter a reply, but by that time I was checked out and walked out. I am sure it didn't do any good, but it sure FELT good.

He didn't refute any comments made during the interview simply sputtered his leftist rhetoric crap for a few minutes. I can't believe that garbage impressed anyone.

"We have serious reason to worry about Olbermann's safety. Last night, he reported that he'd been threatened, apparently with some anthrax-like substance that required him to be subjected to 10 hours of detention in a hospital. He was discharged with a prescription for Cipro. Worse, he and his network were told to keep this off the air.

We on the left must support MSNBC for the courage it is demonstrating by supporting the advertisers that are backing Olbermann's show.

This is a partial list of the advertisers whose commercials were on the show last night.

Cheerios
monster.com
PNC
commitlozenge.com
Aleve
sprint mobile broadband
senior lending network reverse mortgages
Honda Certified Used Cars
AT&T Dynamic Networking New ATT att.com
ReadyRegion.org red cross
Comcast digital voice
l'Oreal Pro Calcium Moisturizer
NBC NEws on I-Tunes
subaru outback sport utility wagon
Genworth Financial Retirement solutions
Vonage unlimited local and long distance calling
New York Stock Exchange
Clairol natural Instincts
Dell Power Edge Servers

I encourage you to contact them and thank them and let MSNBC know how much you love and support the show, and that you are supporting their advertisers. Even better, go out and spend money on their products. If you are already a customer, let them know that as a customer, you are strongly supportive of Olbermann having a continued voice and that if they support other shows like his, you will support them even more.

If you want to help others, dig up contact information on the advertisers and post it as a comment after the article.

Me, I'm going out today to buy me a box of Cheerios."

I first started to watch Keith Olberman after I read so many righties despise him. I though, "he has to be good". I was only partially correct, he is very good.
As far as the anthrax fakery, I would push for an investigation of where it came from. Namely Ann Coulter, who claimed she sent fake anthrax to the N.Y. Times.

The sad thing about people such as yourself is your refusal to acknowledge that we are all a part of the human race..gee, I bet you would be scared schmuckless if some ass sent YOU some white powder.. Keith is a brave and honorable man...someone you can't relate to, I guess. Life is so simple if you are brain-dead and just think in pathetic cliches.

It's time to e-mail, call, or write each one of these news organizations and their sponsors everytime something like this happens. E-mail MSNBC and let them know how much you appreciate Keith Ohlbermann, he's one of the few out there who represent half the country. Don't just sit and preach to the choir that is Alternet or leftwing blogs, SCREAM at the "newsmodels" that are spewing the bile and atrocious bull.... that they direct toward anything resembling real American values or common decency. These criminals have been allowed to get away with smearing, and reviling progressives through their snide frat-boy and girl attitudes as if the only people that mattered were their little incestuous group. Scream at your "representatives", if we don't, they won't respond. Being nice and letting the bullies have their way is complicity in the systematic tear-down of our freedoms and way of life. It's no wonder that Fuerhrer George and Satan Rove and Darth Dick have been able to push through such horrible legislation as was foisted on us yesterday. When America comes to a point that not only is torture codified, but that people, yes even American citizens, can be rounded up and labelled enemy combatants, with no hope of actually going to court, and no right to have the "evidence" presented in court or defended, we should all hang our heads in shame. When these neo-con appeasers are rotting in jail because they said the wrong thing in front of the wrong person, or somebody just had a grudge and turned them in, who are they going to cry to then?

I think Mr. Keith Obermann is a great man, if we had 10 more like him we would not have Mr. Bush and company. He is one of the greatest 100 men in history, do you all know the courage it takes to be like Mr. Obermann, he is a hero and one half. The people in power scares the hell out of me, I am not going to let them know I am alive of fear they will get me.Bigtime
