Mel Gibson, director of Jesus gore-fest The Passion of the Christ, was pulled over for drunk driving early Friday morning, launching almost immediately into a Jew-hating tirade of, well, biblical proportions.

"F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"
In addition he threatened to...

fuck the officer several times, snapped at a female officer, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?", bragged that he "owns Malibu" and that he "will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me," according to Deputy James Mee's report.

The original report that is, since the L.A. Sheriff's office had him remove all the yucky stuff because, as Mee was told by higher-ups, "Gibson's comments would incite a lot of 'Jewish hatred,' [and] that the situation in Israel was 'way too inflammatory.'"

Right. Sure. People just hear Jew hatred and rush from the dinner table for a little pogrom. Consider the nation's intelligence insulted and the LA Sheriff's office bought and paid for.

Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood spoke with the sheriff's office, which denies the cover-up, but early reports have the sheriff's spokesman claiming that Gibson was arrested "without incident" so it's highly unlikely that he just happened to have messed up, that Mee just happens to have claimed that he was told to write another report and that other officers (as stated above) gave excuses for the report.

But back to Gibson. The man who shipped an 8-lane bowling alley to his private island that he intends to leave as pristine as he found it; who donated "$5 million of his The Passion of the Christ profits to expanding a religious compound near Malibu for Catholics who reject Vatican II reforms [the reforms that finally, officially, stated that Jews were not culpable for the death of Christ]."

Count among these Vatican II rejectionists Gibson's father Hutton, a Holocaust denier and friend to powerful antisemites like Willis Carto of The Barnes Review.

As Dave Neiwert notes, "Hutton Gibson was an important influence in [Mel's] beliefs, and he remains so. Moreover, Mel Gibson has never at any time actually distanced himself from his father's beliefs nor repudiated them."

And I'm not sure when it happened but the good Republicans trying to get Gibson to challenge Schwarzenegger for governor of California have clearly abandoned their push as the domain gibsonforgovernor.com seems to be available. Just in case anybody's interested.

If Gibson publicly apologizes for everything he said on Friday, goes on record opposing his father's beliefs, and absolutely and unequivocally states that he does not believe that the Jews are responsible for Jesus' death, he will be taking a good first step away from his flirtation with the fascist right. He won't do this of course as he sincerely holds these beliefs and will not renounce them -- The Passion fell suspiciously in line with the beliefs of those who reject the Vatican II reforms.

Plus, he likes the compound near Malibu, something he gets to keep as someone who typically has the savvy to say just enough to allow daft reporters to connect no dots.

And it allows weak-willed hypocrites like popular right wing blog Little Green Footballs to keep their heads in the ground, cheerleading the most militaristic Israeli actions while giving Gibson a free pass because they're more or less on the same team promoting American empire and Muslim hating -- two great tastes that... you know.

The first thing Gibson reportedly said after being stopped was, "My life is f****d."

At least we agree on something.

UPDATE: Gibson did release a statement and, as expected, glossed over the Jew comments (all the specifics in fact) and just denounced them all as "despicable" while blaming the whole thing on his alcoholism. You know what? Not good enough. You make comments like these after that movie and purchasing a compound for Holocaust-deniers, one of whom is your father whom you've never publicly disagreed with and you want people to accept this apology?

Try again Mel.

Here's the statement in full:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said, and I apologize to anyone who I have offended. Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
Bonus Proof that the Media is not run by the Jews: AP, USA Today, and CNN missed the story as of late Saturday night.

In their TV segment, CNN doesn't even mention the antisemitic slurs, while the written version mentions that TMZ.com "alleges" that there were slurs. This is some darned crappy reporting. The TMZ site actually posts PDFs of the original arrest report and commentary from the freaking office on why they hid the original arrest report. Is there some reason why they were reluctant to report on all this?

To paraphrase Mr. Gibson: CNN, your reporting is f***ed!

AP and USA Today just miss it entirely.

Digg!

Inhibitions DOWN...Gibson Shows True Colors

Gibson's apology for the drunk-driving bit is one issue; his rant against the entire Jewish race (apparently) is another. Some people get 0.12 drunk and cry a little, embarrass themselves by acting silly, or perhaps have trouble getting out of their pants at bedtime/pass-out time, but only a severely disturbed mind would put on a full-scale Racist Hate-Production in the presence of an officer (or officers) of the law. Intoxication does not soften the sting of such a specific and deranged display of hatred. It's a very good thing that Gibson's wealth is secure, because his reputation (at least among those powers in the film industry) is ruined beyond repair. One can apologize for intoxication, but one cannot so easily apologize for blatant and specific racial hatred--drunk or not. The evangelicals will still worship at the altar of Mel (what strange bedfellows!) but let's see if he has the cojones to ever show his face at a fancy-schmancy "Hellywood" awards show again. Ever. A big, resounding BOO! for Mr. BraveHeartless.

Lethal Weapon's crazy cop character wasn't that big of a stretch for Mel, was it?

If Hollywood is so liberal, what's with all the big names flocking to the freak show?

It's an old saying, but the old sayings are the most true. Anything you say while drunk is something that you really believe but are too restrained to say while sober. I have absolutely no doubt that Mel Gibson is an anti-semite like his father. Mel is just better at hiding it in public.

I don't understand why his friends at Hollywood do not comment about these incidents? Where's Goldie Hawn. Stephen Spielberg, Joan Collins, Paul Newman???
Instead of hiding in their shells they should be more outspoken about a fellow member's comments, especially if they have contributed to his career abd success.

You can just look at him for a minute and tell he's exploding with rage all the time. Then if you want to look at his body of work, you can pretty much infer what his favorite targets might be. I also have a feeling he's not greeting his post-leading-man years with equanimity and aplomb.

Life's too short to stare for long at the train wreck that is Mel Gibson.

Evan: You have met Mel Gibson and he is you: your report strikes me as being filled with as much hate as you surmise Mr. Gibson's unreported diatribe to have been. I consider anyone to the right of Medea Benjamin as being suspect, but I will defend the right of anyone to hold those misguided views. For you to call the right (in any of its forms) weak-willed is naive (re: Little Green Footballs) and spewing all that hate about a drunken third rate actor is a waste of your time and your readers'. There are lots of uglies out there far more worthy of your pen than this actor whose time is past. Gibson is a sad drunk that I suspect is of no importance to anyone (witness your own evidence about his "run" for governor). In the US, whether you or I like it, Gibson is allowed to hold his crummy stupid invidious polictial and religiou beliefs. Unless you can prove that he is harming Jewish people actively - really harming people - your rant against him is of no real consequence. You said it yourself - no one covered this story -- this is Mr. Lethal Weapon we are talking about - and NO ONE covered it - you may say it has to do with influence. I wil tell you what it has to do with: he is no longer bankable or newsworthy. (BTW: as a Catholic (lately "of sorts"), I advise you to read up a little on what the Vatican II reforms are really about - believe me, "pardoning" the Jews (an arrogant event in itself) was a late decision and NOT a popular one in the Curia and elsewhere.) Evan, there is A LOTS of ugliness out there, there are LOTS of people and events that deserve your attention, your angst, and your spirit - tilt at enemies, not windmills.

Does Gibson really "hate all jews" or does he like many of us who consider ourselves politically informed, want an end to the aipac/christian zionist stranglehold on our govt. Take a look at the $$$ pro-israeli lobbyists throw at politicians to coerce, cajol, arm twist their way into the halls of US govt power brokering. Now that I've opened myself up to a Dershowitz diatribe, " he's not just anti-semitic, he's just as bad as David Duke, blah,blah,blah...", let it be known that the people in this country that think our govt. has completely sold out, is out of control, on the wrong track, etc., feel very sympathetic towards the Israelis protesting in the streets in Israel over their govts. version of the Iraq war. Especially since american taxpayers are underwriting the killing of innocent Lebanese and the destruction of a sovereign nations infrastructure. Whoa... flashback!?!

Mel's apology is really only about not losing support for his movies. He should have just said "please don't stop giving me money" at least that would be more sincere. The guy has a crappy attitude and makes crappy movies, him and his movies should be boycotted. I can't help but wonder how many jews have spent money seeing his movies or invested money so he can make his movies.

I have to admit that Gibson's public relation's team has done a great job for years on creating a phony public persona and keeping his real life out of the press.

We all know that Gibson is a violence obsessed, mentally ill, alcoholic and liar. The fact that he makes lots of money for movie studios and is a multi-millionaire has allowed him to get away with things that would put the rest of in jail, be fired, unemployable and kicked out of our homes.

I think the most serious issue about this is the coverup. The L.A. Sheriff's office has been "influenced" by those "upstairs" to LIE about Gibson's resisting arrest and his ranting. Any of us would have been thrown in jail for resisting arrest and probably have gotten the crap beaten out of us for his abuse of the police, besides his insane verbal abuse of women and ethnic groups. I wonder what other hatred is in his sick mind.

I think it is VERY important to contact the L.A. Sheriff's department Link to Sheriff Contacts
(You can even file a formal compplain on the above link)
AND the L.A. city Attorney, Rocky Delgadillo to investigate the L.A. Sheriff's office for the attempted coverup, possible bribary charges or illegal influence, not charging Gibson with resisting arrest. I believe this is a very serious matter when those given the privilage of power to uphold the law, and to uphold it fairly and evenly, gives preference and intentionally lies about someone who is loaded with wealth and influence.

Joseph Stalin used to get his advisors and generals in a room and ply them with vodka while he pretended to join them, but drank water. They would get drunk and speak what was really in their hearts. Of course, if Joe didn't like what was in their hearts, he had them killed. For Gibson to say he didn't mean what he said while drunk is bull. He was speaking what was in his heart. He hates Jews. At least be man enough to stand by your hatred, Mel, be a braveheart.

While I do not in any way condone Mel Gibson's actions and I believe that racial hatred in any form is, to use his word, despicable, I can't help wondering if there isn't a double standard here.

Arabs are a Semitic race as well ... and many people in this country, including its leaders, seem to believe that it is fine to bomb their countries and slaughter their innocents while blaming them all for the terrorist acts against our country and our way of life, whether citizens of their countries have been involved in these acts or not ... the classic example of which is the war in Iraq.

The fact is that there is good and evil in every race that ever walked this earth. I believe that Mr. Gibson should be made to face the consequences for his statements. I also believe that those who direct blame and hatred towards those of Arabic race and/or Muslim faith are equally guilty of anti-Semitism and should face as much public exposure and censure for their attitudes as Mr. Gibson is beginning to face for his.

Yet another anti-Semitic Papist in Hollywood.
Current mood: cynical
Category: News and Politics

I am not too fanatically about a particular Australian Megastar who is a devout Papist and an overt anti-semite. Mind you can only find this antisemitism amongst typical Papists as historically consistent. The Holocaust was afterall were committed in Papist countries, except for the Lutheran sections of Nazi Germany during World War Two. The Polish were particular fond of pragmatic final solutions in Treblinka in southern Poland during the most series genocidal activities during World War two. The Croations were not too fond of Jews either and so the history of Papist overt hatred of anything Jewish perisists even in Hollywood. So Mel Gibson will never get a movie screen test for any of Steven Speilbergs movies and any of Tom Hanks movies as well since they are pro-Zionists. Steven Speilberg is a Jewish American afterall and Tom Hanks is his mate. So what seems quite unususal then is Thomas Kenneally part in the Schindler's List saga which seems very un-Papist and not pro-Hibernian thing to do, especially since Thomas Kenneally is an Australian of Irish descent. The most celebrated book "The Great Shame", is almost a historical testament of Irish Australian history written in fictional factual accuracy. The movie Schindler's List had given most anti-Semitic Hibernian Australians a less hostile view of Jews primarilly due to the efforts of Mr. Thomas Kenneally. The present crises in the Middle East has re-ignited a new wave of impassioned anti-semitism and now Mel Gibson has chimed into the psychological warfare and paradoxically enjoining the likes of Caliphate visionaries amongst the Ausrtalian Muslim fraternity within Australia and elements of Jihadis every where. The battlelines are being drawn within Australia itself. The demonstrations in the streets by Lebanese Australians and by other groups of anti-Jewish elements, in the thousands have given a visualised mass of collective support for anti-Jewish and Americans within Australia. The antipathy will grow like the protestations against the war on Iraq, but, to no avail. The heightened sense of paranoia will be moreso come the 22nd August, 2006, when Amrozi and Muklas are scheduled to be executed by firing squad in Indonesia, calling for some reprisals from the Abu Sayaf elements and sleepers cells anywhere within Australians harms way. The ASIO and ASIS agents have been scanning the protestors and taking notes and footages for profiling purposes, the Muslim fraternity have been so kind in exposing their hot headed selves to the totalitarian powers that be. Every Muslim in a Hijab, or an Arab scarf, would be considered as potential terrorist suspects, just like any coloured juvenile would be considered as part of the USUAL SUSPECTS category of a predominately White Anglo-Celtic mainstream society.

In the meantime, the deflected usual suspects have veered their attention to the old scapegoat turned villain, the Jews and the counter measures by the IDF within Lebanon, and very soon Syria.

As a member of the second class citizenry category, we have become de-sensitised from the extra attention by Big Brother. The handle it attitude has become the ultimate survival instict for individual people who have gotten used to being perpetually subjected to the CULTURAL SHOCK lessons of 'maginalised' politics.

So, Mr. Mel Gibson, if he were reading this blog, I suppose it high time for some time for reflections in your newly constructed Papal chapel you had built soon after the movie about the crucifixion of Christ. Even then you had hinted to the world that the Jews were the murderers of Christ. Some things will never be changed in certain people and is seems that you have undone all the efforts of Thomas Kenneally and have reverted to the anti-Semitism attitudes of old WASPS and Hibernian Australians.

Hating anyone or any race is terrrible. Hater is hurt more than the hated. As far as wars go, for the past 60 years, Israel has behaved in the worst possible way. This is not to condone the suicide bombers, misguided Muslims and arabs. So if some people vent out their frustrations whill drunk, I forgive them. Mel has more years to live. Let us wait and see what more he does. Afterall it is what we do that ultimately hurts someone. Being a megastar, his words will create a lot of Jew-hatred? I think not. While on the topic of hate, can we talk about hating blacks, hating Chinese, hating South Asians, and of course hating our current favorites Muslims for being alive after US-Isareli bombings. Oh, God of Abraham, bless them all. Probably that is the wrong thing to ask of Someone who makes Hitler look like a saint.

No wonder one of the comments he kept repeating to the arresting officers was "My life is fucked!". This very well could turn into a completely different story and debate. Stay tuned!!!!!!

Ah, the filthy, dirty, Irish Catholic pigs. All the suffering and wars in the world are caused by the Irish catholics.

Too bad my (Scottish Presbyterian) ancestors didn't finish the job when they invaded Ireland in the 17th century. I am deeply offended that a film about my Scottish ancestors (who were supporters of the Bruce, and rewarded with land and title after Bannockburn) was allowed to be made by that dirty Irish papist (I spit on his name).

The only kids in my (public and largely white) southern high school that I EVER heard using anti-semitic language were the Irish catholic kids, in particular these two ugly, freckled, uncircumcised, smegma-covered gonads from hell who were on the soccer team, Sean-SomethingIrish and Brennan-SomethingIrish. They were constantly deriding and belittling a Jewish kid in my class.

What do you say to the Irish? Go eat a rotting potato and die you filth. That's what I always say to the pigs......

;o)

Mel Gibson may have been able to shake the fact that he hated Jews when he made Passion of the Christ by claiming artistic license, and there are many, including me, who gave him the benefit of the doubt. We may even shake our heads with understanding when his father also spewed comments that clearly demonstrated his distaste for Jews. After all, "this wasn't Mel - it was Mel's dad, and why should h be held responsible for his father's views...?"

But now the cat's out of the bag, when in a moment devoid of inhibition (simply cuz the inhibition centers in his brain were blocked by alcohol) Mel erradicates any previous leeway we may have given him by stating what he really thinks - he hates Jews!

For me, I will simply express my opinion about Mel by not watching his films any longer. The remote control will click "next" when i see his face on TV, I won't rent his DVDs and I certainly won't shell out my $15 to see his work on the big screen.

While I had been a fan, but why should I show any further support for someone who has shown himself to be a liar, and who doesn't like me?

As a card-carrying member of the Pacifist Christian Left who boycotted his torture-fest (and will until the day I die), I'm glad to see yet another Christianist bite the dust. Whether at one end of the spectrum they worship the stolen ground Zionists walk on and claim as their own, or from the exact opposite end of the earth they can't seem to make the obvious distinction between Zionists of all "religions" and all people of Jewish descent, their identical fate is justly deserved; sooner or later they hang themselves with the rope God gives them called Free Will.

Hopefully, this episode will teach Gibson more than the fact he has an alcohol problem, but that he also has a racist problem courtesy of dear old Dad. Anyone who can't distinguish between Zionists (who happen to come from perversions of ALL faiths) and Jews has an ENORMOUS RACIST PROBLEM.

Thankfully, few so burdened are given the opportunity to enlist thousands of others in the production of dubious art to perpetuate that problem.

There IS one good thing you can say about Gibson's film; its very existence flushes all ridiculous talk of a "Jewish conspiracy" in Hollywood down the sewer where it belongs.

Mel. Seriously. CALL ME. We need to talk.

If it's run by Jews, then it's amazing how they managed to keep this story out of CNN (owned by Time-Warner) and other mainstream media. I have heard so little of it, it has become a non-story.

Jews control mediia like Chriistians control media.

Once again, Alternet's "you're an Anti-Semite, everyone is an Anti-Semite" one-trick pony finds himself yet another persecutor to whine about.

Why not whine to the leaders of Israel about the slaughter they are committing, rather than worrying about meaningless celebrities.

Sheesh!

It is said that it is when people are drunk that the truth comes out. So, perhaps we now really know what Mel Gibson is made of - Frogs and Snails and 90% booze.

By the way, "The Passion of Christ" was not a true version of the end of Christ's life on earth. Gibson forgot the ending. Without a shot of the empty tomb, its just the story of a reformer who was unfairly punished for his teachings. It looks like Gibson got hung up on Good Friday and forgot about Easter.

Even, if he said something like "Jews are responsible for all the wars..." he was right! They are, at least in the mideast.
The problem is that all the media is owned by Jews and they created that rumor as a payback for the movie "The Passion of the Christ", where Gibson showed the "true face of Jews". They've never liked the truth, because it was never in favour for them. It happened many times that Jews wanted to "change" history (sending Christ to death, holocaust, etc.), just as now they want to spread the lie to destroy him. Pure revenge. Very typical for Jews.

We saw the movie, we know its literary source material and the history surrounding it.

We heard his interviews.

The guy holds beliefs that were very common and very respectable before that jerk Hitler jerk went and spoiled it for everyone -- by losing.

Now Gibson gets drunk and says the first thing that's on his mind.

But, if you had asked me a week ago, I would have said, "It's just Gibson -- I don't think anyone really takes that Henry Ford sytle jew-baiting crap seriously anymore.

I didn't anticipate so many angry, counterfactual Goyim downplaying, excusing, denying and justifying.

Gates, once head of the LA cops was a racist, and left the dept. as did the detective whose anti black diatribe cost LA the OJ Simpson trial.
Wait: I have it: is there a culture of racism, faschism, and anti semitism among the LA police?
Do bears go doo doo in the woods?
Is the Pope Catholic?
Thanks to the American media for staying away from the story.

Mel Gibson is not Australian, he is American. His family migrated to Australia when he was six years old and his anti-Semitic attitudes were learned from his American father.

That doesn't make any difference to the offensiveness of his behaviour but as an Australian, I'd prefer not to see the people of my country slammed just because Mr. Gibson has behaved in an offensive manner.

Yes it's a minor detail when compared to the remarks he made about the Jewish people but why mention his presumed nationality at all unless there is more than a hint of anti-Australian prejudice in the attitude of the person who makes a point of bringing it up?

I note with increasing interest how "anti-Arabism" is met with only a fraction of the outrage even my left-leaning peers seem to have reserved for anyone showing anti-semitism in their remarks. If Gibson didn't already have a track history of having Christianity at he core of his remarks, I'd be tempted to say...give him a break. But I find all religiously inspired hatreds to be at the root of the much of the worlds current problems, and so I'll leave him to his "just deserts". I only wish that you could all find it in yourselves to be so brave in your denunciations of Jews who make precisely the same overly-broad and sweeping, hate-filled comments against Muslims, or those right-wing Christians who also see their lot tied up with right-wing Judaism, and so see Muslims as an impediment to their own vision of Heaven.

His actions aren't really surprising, as I think he's having trouble living up to both the Hollywood expectations and his own religious perspective. This is a man who said that his wife (who has been married to the man for over 20 yrs and has raised his 8 children) will be going to hell because she is not Roman Catholic. And yet he is living the Hollywood lifestyle while his wife is at home in Australia raising their children.

from lambasting Mel Gibson's odious comments to the whole Arab v. Jew thing?

Okay, let's lay off Israel a little bit, okay? Try this on for size before you start to condemn a country for defending itself. Israel has been trying to exist peacefully for 60 years. Whether or not the western world had a right to just plop them in the middle of someone else's land is a moot point. And frankly the reason the western world did do was out of guilt for not doing enough to stop the Holocaust, though historical research shows that the Allied powers knew all about it. Let's also stop to consider that the U.S. was willing to make deals with the devil in order to form what we now know as NASA by bringing former Nazi scientists to work for us.

The way I see it, the Jewish people's psychology is much like black people's psychology when ito comes to racism. Many Jews see themselves as a constantly beleaguered people from all sides - you have the groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and al-Queda - whose sole raison d'etre is the complete and utter destruction of ANYTHING Jewish. There's also the screwed-up theocratic-based policies of the right-wing wack jobs who run our government who actually hate Jews because they still feel they killed Christ, and yet they support Israel because of something to do with the Book of Revelations, although folks like Pat Robertson clearly stated that Jews who don't acknowledge Christ as the messiah are going to hell.

The Jews themselves are like black folks - like us who won't go back to the 'good old days', they won't go back to being victims or slaves. When the Jews say 'Never again', they mean it and are obviously willing to back it up with deadly force. When they lash out, it is from that very fear. Lest you all forget (and for a bunch of leftists who are supposed to be somewhat rational, I'm shocked), the Holocaust for many Jews is still a recent memory. There are still living survivors, reminders of the living hell they went through. Put yourself in their position - if you saw your entire family wiped out in some of the most horrific ways possible, simply because you were Jewish - wouldn't you be just a little paranoid when some group claiming to peak for Allah wants you dead? Thats how exactly feel when I see some white guy in a Klansman's garb. I don't care about his life or whether he's nice to his wife and kids. He's the enemy and I want him eliminated. If they violate some mythical rules of warfare, they've learned from the 'best' - the U.S., Europe, and the Arab world, who have shown through countless centuries that there are no innocents in war.

As far as Jews 'owning' Hollywood...big deal. You all still go to the movies and still watch television so obviously you're all full of it. If this bothers you so much, turn of your bloody televisions and do something PRODUCTIVE!

That is, he is simply the latest low-class, redneck, uneducated imbecile to manifest the evil that comes from dogmatic religion. Without Papism, Mel's shit-for-brains father would not have a motivation or inclination to slander Jews. Many books prove that Papism throughout its history is responsible for anti-Jewish beliefs and actions. They bear partial responsibility for the Holocaust. Mel's daddy and maybe Mel himself would happily join the SS if it were possible. Read Sam Harris' The End of Faith.

Something is wrong. There is so much hatred in this county at the moment. Mel Gibson is just one way of focusing and deflecting our anger toward someone else. So he was caught DWI, him and a zillion others before him.
Unfortunately we live in a society of double standards and two-faced behaviors. We profess our own goodness while attacking those who are different. We as a country are a violent group of people, and it shows in our media, the way we speak to each other and countless other forms.
At the moment, although many would deny it, there is a extremely strong wave of fear that is gripping the country. The fear comes from many sources and has accumulated over the past 6 years into the truly tragic mess we have today. The governments, private corporations and the rich continue to create chaos and despair by taking more than is reasonable from the people all the while trampiling on people's human rights.
So, with all this in mind, jumping on the bandwagon against Mel is like me throwing the first stone. The man made a mistake (several in fact), but I believe that with all the wars that America is already engaged in (war on drugs, immigration, ad nauseum, etc, that I believe it is time to go to war against insanity which is surely gripping the globe right now.
We have bigger fish to watch than Mr. Gibson's mistakes. Until we address the ills that affect our own country, it is very difficult to cast stones at glass houses. Mel made a mistake, made an apology and what else would you have the man do, give a pound of flesh too? Perhaps many of us are just envious that we cannot have Mel's level of monetary freedom, or worse, his ability to make the movies expressing his personal beliefs. By the way, there is a good read in the book, "The Cheating Culture", which describes in detail the corruption that affects all of us and the part we play in it individually.

Well, well, well, this was a fascinating episode. Gibson must know, that once when you speak in an uncivilized tone, it's a lot like opening up the proverbial can of worms: You don't expect one to crawl out.
We all have uttered something we regret, myself included.
He must remember this Russian proverb: Once when a word leaves your mouth, you cannot take it back.

May I offer a possible explanation for the cops

Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Before we all go nuts ont he police for "covering up" I might offer a few reasons why Gibson's remarks weren't highlighted initially.

As a local sheriff or police chief, a famous person in your jurisdiction is caught spewing anti-semitic idiocy while drunk driving. You have no way of knowing what is in his head, only that you need to stop a dangerous drunk from kiling anybody in the car. You are in the most paparazzi-infested county in the US.

Now, what do you do? The arrest report is supposed to detail the circumstances and lay out the probable cause. It's designed to give the courts, should they need it, something to make a prima facie case. Since it is about drunk driving, yuo want to focus on that, no? Now, while Mel's comments are despicable as well as his behavior, you as a cop have a job to do. Do you really need a ton of publicity on this? Will it help anybody? I would say no. In fact, in his shoes, I'd have written up Gibson for threatening the cops and drunk driving, and left it at that. I don't need the gossip rags and the newspapers all over my precinct when I have real work to do. Nor do I want to get involved in a set of dueling lawsuits over defamation or what have you.

Now, is this necessarily right? I don't know. I am just saying that in this cop's position I can't say I wouldn't do the same. It's just too much of a headache for what should, in a sane world, be an easy, minor arrest. It would be a fight between my desire to take down a peg a dude who just insulted me and my staff and was a jerk to boot and my desire to make this thing go smoothly and get Mel convicted or at least ticketed without a hassle.

As for thinking the pubilshed remarks would incite "Jew hatred" perhaps the local cops were just trying to maintain a note of sanity in a notoriously nutty area of the country. After all, the cops did not endorse his remarks, they never said they agreed with him and there might even be a few Democrats in the department. Do you need the ADL marching to your door and demanding "action?"

Is Mel an idiot? Yeah. An anti-semite? I could buy that. (I have never spoken to him about it and would love to hear from him on this, but it's unlikely, and I cannot read minds, one can only judge by the company he keeps and his actions). Right wing shill? Dunno. But I don't pay as much attention to him as I might and I haven't seen him in any GOP ads. But I could be wrong.

But I wonder how much blame the police have in this case for trying to keep a lid on something--after all, they may have found Gibson's words repugnant enough that they didn't want to air them, either.

Thoughts, Evan?

Okay, granted, in vino veritas: what Gibson really thinks emerged in his drunken rage. But here's the question. Why? Why start ranting about "the Jews" when he's arrested for drunk driving? What about being stopped by cops made him spout venom at the Jews? Does he identify with Jesus and feel he was being crucified? That "the Jewish media" would expose him? Or is he mentally unstable in addition to being a bigot, and the sludge just oozes out whenever there's an opportunity, that is, when he loses control? It's scary to think that he has this kind of mental crawl going on in his head nonstop, and the arrest brought it to light.

Remember that got four-square behind The Passion of the Christ and denied that it was anti-semitic. Just last week, Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, denied the anti-semitism of this movie on the Daily Show. Likewise, Michael Medved, a right-wing commentator who bloviates on the idea that Hollywood is anti-American values, has defending The Passion.

This confirmation of Gibson's anti-semitism undercuts any defense of the film and shows their hypocrisy.

Mel Gibson has the First Amendment right to say what he wants to say, whether we agree with him or not.

The lynching of Mel Gibson even by the left -- which is supposed to respect the First Amendment -- is frightening and is indicative of the disproportionate amount of political power that the Zionist lobby has.

And although no one is actually looking at the CONTENT of what Gibson said, it is TRUE that the Zionists are largely responsible for the Vietraq War, as the ranks of the neocons are filled with Zionists, and certainly the Zionists are responsible for the fire that is raging in Lebanon.

I have a problem with any abuse of power, be it the members of the Bush regime abusing their power or the Zionists abusing their power.

I am sick and tired of the charges of "anti-Semite" and even "Nazi" being leveled by the Zionists to stifle discussion and debate on their actions and the consequences of their actions.

Long live the First Amendment!

We can be pretty sure that the parents of Jesus were Jewish - neither Roman bull-worshippers nor atheists - and so, logically, Jesus was Jewish. (There weren't any Christians around at the time, remember).

So, those 'Christians' who hate Jews must also hate the biological parents of Jesus. By the way, you should avoid discussing this topic with certain people - their heads might explode right in front of you due to a rapid buildup of dissonant cognitive energy.

Jews, Christians and Muslims are all 'People of the Book' who have far more in common then any of them like to admit; what we have here is a global case of sibling rivalry, and all the violent outbreaks have their real roots in economic issues (land, oil, water, etc.).

"Road Warrior" is one of my favorite movies, perhaps the most prophetic movie of its day, but I think this sorry saga also demonstrates why actors generally fail (with some exceptions, like George Clooney) as directors.

Typical Fundmentalists Mentality

Mel Gibson's apology for the DUI taught me that he is a drunk, which was a surprise to me, even though I care very little about so called famous people. When he did that movie about Jesus and enraged the Jewish community with it’s excess everyone who could walk and talk knew he was an anti-Semite. That why his ranting against the entire Jewish race held no surprise to me, just disgust.
What I think it does draw attention to and raise a danger is the strength of idolatry [hero worship]. In religious circles, it is like putting a false god before your chosen one, which are what Mel Gibson's and Mr. Dobbs are taking advantage of by their public positions. Mr. Sanctimonious, Mr. Dobbs who admitted taking a shower with his ten-year-old son to teach him about manhood made me sick, this behavior is the reason why I am no longer a catholic, all religions seem to be infested with these possible child molesters types who need help, not attention or sympathy.
One of the commenter in another response said “It's a very good thing that Gibson's wealth is secure, because his reputation (at least among those powers in the film industry) is ruined beyond repair.” I found that remark naive and blind to this guy’s behavior for the last couple of years. When he made that movie about Jesus’ time it was a warning to all but these extremists that facts and good taste where going to be forced to take a backseat to vile and corrupt attacks on anyone not like them.
Mel Gibson's behavior is a admonition by the anti-democratic rightwing fundamentalist, specifically the evangelicals christians threats to our sovereign nation, who just like the fundamentalist Taliban justify their means by their needs, morality and ethics having no place. The twice [suspect] elected administration which speaks for them uses torture and rape and murder of children, women and men prisoners as tools, proving once and for all they have no respect for decency, justice or law.
As a 60 year old, veteran I always make decisions about major issues by wither or not I would let my kids be taught by these public persuasions. If I cannot trust them as being truthful, I will never allow them to be taught to my children. Additionally I certainly would not want them having any influance on my goverment, like my kids I want promoted examples shown of moral and ethical positions, not brainwashed, empty headed dogma, bumper sticker slogans.

Gibson's Icon Entertainment made Passion for 35 million and grossed more than 700 million worldwide, and counting.

The cast and crew of the film sent an open letter to Variety asking Mel if he was willing to share a bit of the loot with them. They recounted that Mel worked them 18 hours a day for far less than scale (minimum union wage) and was a monster on set. The actors claimed that because of their involvement with the film, they were having trouble getting other work. The writers also pointed out that Peter Jackson had recently cut big bonus cheques to all the folks that worked on the LOTR trilogy - just to say thanks. Same for Spielberg, and other producers of sleeper films that made lots of profit.

I, for one, boycott all Gibson's films, whether he stars in them, directs, or produces. Look for the Icon Entertainment name and don't put your money down.

Anyone who claims to be a devout anything (in Mel's case, Opus Dei) and makes a fortune from the fictional-or-not suffering of their particular god, is disgusting. The film is violent porn and anybody can make a fortune in the porn business.

His career is over, as a producer, director and actor - excellent. Most of the news outlets have now reported the gory details of his drunken rant and he's a pariah in the film business anywhere and most of all, Hollywood. I'm glad he fell on his sword early - karma bit him in the ass.

I have run a psychiatric emergency services for 23 years; i see people like Mel Gibson. They come into the psych er with severe addictions; we start them on the path to recovery----therapy, group sessions, 12 step programs, medications, etc----there are several. Quite often the addict comes back in a few weeks or months of "recovery' and they have "seen the light" usually they have found "religion", the more right wing, the more espousing of fear and guilt, the better these "religions" serves the purpose of the addicted person-----with fear and guilt, the addicted person can punish themselves for their own deep seated guilt and inadequacy about being an addict. AT THIS POINT I STRONGLY URGE THE RECOVERING ADDICT TO GO THE NEXT STEPS PAST WHERE THEY ARE; I TELL THEM THEY ARE STILL AN ADDICT AND MUST MAKE SEVERAL MORE STEPS TO FREE THEMSELVES OF THE HOOKS OF ADDICTION. THEY, HOWEVER, ARE SURE THAT "JESUS HAS SAVED THEM AND THEY ARE NOW FREE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL FOREVER." I PLEAD WITH THEM NOT TO STOP HERE BUT CONTINUE WITH DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT. THEY USUALLY DON'T---THEY HAVE FOUND "JESUS" OR SOME OTHER RIGHT WING PUNISHING "RELIGION." I EXPLAIN THAT IF THEY GO ON AND GET FREE OF ADDICTION, THEY ARE THEN FREE TO CHOOSE "THE REAL JESUS" OR ANY OTHER REAL RELIGIOUS PATH OR SPIRITUAL PATH THEY WISH. AND PEOPLE FREE FROM ALCOHOL AND DRUGS ARE CAPABLE OF CHOOSING RELIGION/SPIRITUAL THAT REALLY WORKS FOR THEM-----NOT A CRUTCH FOR THEIR ADDICTION. MEL GIBSON, GEORGE BUSH, AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS DID NOT TAKE THE FINAL STEPS OF FREEING THEMSELVES OF ADDICTION, AND WE SEE WHERE THIS GETS THEM AND GETS US WHO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE ADDICTS. MORE CRIPLED PEOPLE USING RELIGION TO PROP UP THEIR ADDICTIONS. SAD, HUH? AND I THINK WE SHOULD TRY TO BE A BIT MORE COMPASSIONATE SINCE THIS IS A SICKNESS AND NEEDS FURTHER TREATMENT-----MEL GIBSON, GEORGE BUSH, EVERYBODY WHO IS AN ADDICT---THERE ARE FURTHER STEPS TO TAKE. TAKE THE NEXT STEPS, FOLKS. YOGI, TUCSON

Coincidence that on the same day the military-industrialist zionists kills scores of Palestinian children that Mel Gibson is arrested for making 'anti-semetic' statements? Disinformation campaign designed to take the press attention away from the ethnic-cleansing going on in Palestine and the mililtary build-up so wanted by the zionists and thier minions the military contractors and their neo-con stooges. Probably Mossad slipped Mel a tincture of LSD and Rohypnol that caused his out-of-control behaviour. Just because he was drugged, or drunk as the press claims, doesn't mean his statements were false. Look at who makes the money from the wars.

I make mistakes in judgement all the time. I certainly don't want to be held accountable - with my feet to the fire you're setting - to every troubling idea or thought or ugly reaction I have. God bless you all out there that are so very perfect. The Bible says that only though our weakness does power reach perfection.
Hang in there Mel. My good Christain thoughts are with you!

As an African American, I will categorically say we are not like the Jews. Descendants of Africans, we have the spirit of forgiveness in us. Look at South Africa! Look at he horriffic slave trade in America and the century + of brutality. We are survivors and still embrace our brothers and sisters from different nationalities and ethnicities. As the humans that first inhabited the earth we are connected to the human race. We do not practice "an eye for an eye" mentality. Look at how MLK changed the cultural landscape of the south with nonviolence! We understand that it is more to life than materialism!! We haven't seperated ourselves or claimed right to an African American state despite the numerous and cruel atrocities. Even though we've had our cultures,
languages destroyed this African worldview remains in us. No matter what is happening in Israel- the One God of the entire human race will bring us together and reconcile the planet in peace. God is Just and he will bring to justice those who oppress others.

Jews always seem ready to whine about how badly they are treated and always picked on. It goes with the territory when you bomb kids and women that happens. Just keep on whining the world will soon learn to not listen like they don't listen to the cries of the murdered children. Oh I forgot some of them suffered from "shock" when the rockets landed on their golf course. Damn that is serious, let's make a memorial. Hate them? No, I pity them short sighted and self delusional. SUffer all the centuries gets you permanent victim status, until some other victime shows up with better PR.

If a cabal of Jews controlled America's media would they finance & distribute films such as Mel's version of Jesus's death? Oh, I forgot Jews will do anything for money & Jews also mix the blood of Christian toddlers in mazzos. This story is a day early for the dog days of August no news days. But the conflict in Lebanon may not allow any days in August to be no news days.

Last summer Cindy Sheehan was standing in a ditch outside W's so-called ranch and demanding an answer to a simple question. This summer Mel Gibson drives into a ditch and makes collateral damage out of AlterNet. I'd suggest hiring a good Jew lawyer and suing his ass, but at this point no one would see any humor in it, and tempers and temperatures are hot enough.

Clearly, there is a serious division among progressives regarding Jewish issues and the appropriate understanding and reaction to them. Gibson's scandalous, though rather predictable and pathetic, spin on same apparently constitutes the pale beyond which no decent debaters venture. Who needs to, given the swamp one must wade through before reaching it?

IMO, the Gibson tempest serves as a proxy for the Israel/Palestine/Lebanon debate and what is appropriate and decent versus obscene and disgraceful there. My suggestion, for what it's worth, is to leave Mel to dry out and solve his own problems (which will keep him busy for at least a few bottles) and do something to extend the temporary halt in the bombing that is doubtless saving Lebanese lives. I hope that's something we can all agree on. Stop the bloodshed and we can argue later about whose fault it is.

Have I missed something, or am I foolishly hoping for the return of human dignity?

Mel was drunk as a skunk and prattled off some nonsense. Because he supposedly made some remarks negatively referencing Jews, this has beome the big story. Not that he needs alcohol treatment or anger management which is the real story. No, because he is "anti-semitic." If he had prattled some remark about a "Pollack" or used the "n" word, hardly anybody would have noticed. But because he made an anti-Jewish remark, its MAJOR LEAGUE news. The anti-semites we are told are lurking everywhere, everywhere Israel is "criticized" for another massacre, its the "anti-Semites." This sotry is interesting for what it tells you about the emphasis and focus of the US media.

Dear Evan Derkacz . . .

I thank you for sharing the story behind the story. I do prefer substance. The reasons for secrets are more interesting to me than what is hidden.

For me, the events surrounding the Gibson arrest were quite timely. They are emblematic. Mr. Gibson’s sentiments have been more pronounced throughout the public forum. I think Mel Gibson is a reflection of America.

We, as a nation speak of racism and religious bigotry elsewhere; however, it is rampant right here in the “United” States of America! Last evening I wrote of this. Director Gibson was my catalyst. The repeated reporting of his story haunted me. It coupled with war coverage created a thought in my mind.

I invite you and your readers to review my missive.

Okay
so what is all the fuss about Mel Gibson asking " are you a jew" so what!!! if i were a jew i would have said "Yes I am A jew and i am Proud to be one".
i donot understand why there is an inferiority complex amongst JEws about being Jews. why are they ashamed about. perhaps the first thing is to cultivate some appreciation in being a jew.
Secondly Mel could be Anti Jew but this does not mean he is anti semitic. i dont know why these termonoly are confused.
ANTI SEMITIC is some one who does not belive in ONENESS of GOd
Anti Jew is some one who doesnt like Jews.
so the fact that the jews think they are protector of the oneness of God is wrong.
there are other faiths who belive in one god to like Bahia, Muslim. so if any one says something against them they dont consider it Anti semetic. the Jews should stop thinking that they are the PROTECTORS of the oneness of God becasue there are others as welll.!!!!!

It's amazing to me that the true crime here of Driving Under the Influence - where one can easily injure or kill others - is seen as less bad than a few ethic slurs uttered afterward. Are we that politically correct? I believe in the First Amendment and freedom of speech - and that means that a "hate crime" is only unlawful because of the crime, not because of the hate. The right to hate - so long as that hate is not used to deprive others of their rights - is protected under the Constitution. Mel Gibson is still a goy Christian oasis in an otherwise liberal Jewish Hollywood. God Speed, Mel Gibson!

A goyishe kup's 2 cents

Growing up in New York City post WWII ( The Bronx and Manhattan ) I heard the following slurs:

WASP, Nigger, Coon, Spick, Wop, Mick, kike, White Trash, RedNeck, hillbilly, Chink, dot-head, fag, dike, kraut, frog, limey , wetback, sand-nigger, gringo, cracker, Shiksa, Goyim, Shvartzer, Morta Cristo, melanzana, Slope Head, Christ Killer, Papist and many more. I even used some of them myself.
I bet the NSA recordings, even today, are filled with the above slurs.

The 20th century was one of WAR and GENOCIDE across the entire planet. The 20th century slaughter was NOT just about the Jewish-Holocaust.

So I ask:

1. Why is it that in the USA Anti-Jewish-Semitism is for all intents and purposes a Felony Crime but slurs against all other groups is at best just a misdemeanor?

2. Why is it that some countries consider denial of the Jewish-Holocaust a crime?

3. Is it that by claiming to be the CHOSEN people the Jewish people have set them selves against the rest of man kind?

Is the world doing anything about this slaughter?

Yawn. Y'all knew that Mel was not your average touchy-feely
when it comes to the Cho-Sen People. ( we eat a lot of Chinese food on Sat. Night.) Get over it. Mel's discussion of HIS Jewish problem is as interesting as Paris Hilton telling us her love life. Not to worry. Instead, how about concerning yourself with the insane shit Israel is currently doing in the middle east, before the whole world becomes Mel Gibson? The only difference between the IDF and Hiz'B'Allah is the angle of their circumcisions. Truly they are the people my parents warned me about.

By the way, when you translate " hiz'b'allah " what do you
get? " The Party of God ". Sheesh. They aren't even that original. We had ours first. The Republicans.

On the theory that even a stopped clock is right twice a day, cut poor drunken ( in vino veritas ) Mel some slack. Remember Billy Graham's crack to Richard Nixon when he thought no one was listening? Just rent Braveheart. Religion is no big deal. Even a half-wit mediocre science fiction writer can become God. Ask John Travolta and Tom Cruise.

Are you a mirror image of you neighbour?
Posted by: medbear on Aug 1, 2006 5:31 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
It is well nown that humans like to think of themselves as individuals. I see large differences between myself and my next door neighbour, though we're both white men from christian origins, 40-ish, with too much around the waist, a hairline striving for lower altitudes, and OK jobs. Still, two very different guys.

When it comes to the larger picture, the human mind seems to abandon the idea of humans as individuals. Of course, most are aware that in the "us" category we are still individuals and each one different from the other. When it comes to "them", such admissions seems weaker if existent at all. And the act of one or some of "them" heralds proof about all of "them".

Of course, we are not that stupid, you say. But look at how much of the debate is. It tends to polarize in many postings to "They" are good/bad/right/wrong and so on. This clearly diverts discussion from real issues and is a hindrance for understanding.

I won't discuss conspiracy theories, which seem to be abundant in discussions relating government and religion, other than to state that the historical/scientific foundation for most such theories is at best highly selective.

But I could discuss the statements "Israel is the cause of all evil" vs "Israel has done nothing wrong and is only defending itself".

The understandable but still incorrect equations Israel=Jews, and Jews=Israel, seems to be at the root of how many discuss the sad situation. Admittedly, many Israeli officials and others encourage these equations frequently, by hoisting the "anti-semite" warning signal every time their arguments or motivations are questioned or critizised. Likewise, Israel's opponents seems happy to draw on the before mentioned conspiracy theories in their efforts to explain how the state of Israel is The Evil One (with the USA as a good runner-up).

Isn't it possible to accept the state of Israel and at the same time question their actions? Isn't it possible to detest the acts of terrorism from muslim organisations/individuals, and not at the same time hate muslims?. I for one has no problems with the existence of the state of Israel. I personally even accept their right to self-defence under international law for the current situation. I do hold them responsible for unnecessary deaths, and the grave breaches of international law when they disregard the principles of necessity and proportionality. I think they are wrong when they claim to be freed of the obligations to protect and avoid harm to non-combattants - a leaflet asking people to leave the area does NOT free anyone from those obligations.

What does this make me? An Israel hater? An anti-semite? If that is so, I am also hereby declared an US hater, an anti-christian, anti-muslim, anti-hindu, anti-chinese, anti-swedish, anti a-lot-of-things-I-haven't-even-thought-of-yet, and - behold - I hate my neighbour.

The most scary reasoning I've seen disregards the, though sometimes misused, international law, and argues that its OK to use any means to reach a goal. Such statements holds 2 equally disturbing possibilities. They legitimate all acts of violence against non-combattants (including US citizens), by the reasoning that international law has no validation, and that anyone who in ther mind has a justified and righteous cause can choose freely their means of achieving their goal (to find Who Started It, one can look back indefinitely and still not agree). Alternatively, using such reasoning put a defined group above the rest of the world. In legitimacy, in right to security and freedom, and in morality. There's a word for that.

"The rules", shouted Ralph, "you're breaking the rules!"
"Who cares?"
Ralph summoned his wits:
"Because the rules are the only thing we've got!"

Mel Gibson For Governator II!

(Hey, it's not my brilliant [censored] idea.) I'm not sticking up for Mel but you suckers have got to realize that beloved Ahnold has been on the record hundreds of times saying things far FAR worse than what Gibson said, and yet he's Governor of the 5th largest economy in the world. And he will most likely be re-elected. So obviously no one gives a crap anymore about mental fortitude.

If you were to substitute the word Moslem, everywhere Gibson used the word Jew, you would immediately recognize the hypocracy inherent in condeming him, and not shouting equal outrage at Hannity, O'Reilly, and every other public figure making stupid racist generalizations.

I can't believe how SHOCKED everyone is by this story. Is it just because we aren't allowed to hate Jewish people? The Christian Right hates jews as well. They just need them to get to heaven so they don't like to show their hate. Mel Gibson is a cash cow in Hollywood. It doesn't matter to those in charge who he may or may not like. He makes them money and that's what it's all about. We shouldn't hate anyone at least that is what we are taught in whichever church we attend, but that doesn't stop most people. Look at all the good little Christians hating gays, librals, women, muslims. No one has any right to tell Mel he can't hate until they all get rid of their own hatred. I think this is just a big nothing story. Who really cares who Mel Gibson hates? There are much more important things going on in the world with more impact on our day to day lives than some stupid story of a drunk Hollywood personality.

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!

One could not tell that mel wasn't into Jews from watching the Passion he exercised in torturing Christ in his movie? I'm thinking homey did a better job than the original Romans on beating down Jesus. Certainly no love or compassion there. To me, his flick was his opportunity to beat the most visible Jew. See, Mel doesn't want to have to stand in line behind Caligula, Hitler, Shrubya Dumya in the day of Judgement. He wants to get that business of going straight to hell on behind him with the quickness.

The Gibson incident is just more evidence for the fact that the root of most evil in the world is…ORGANIZED RELIGION!

Where on this earth are there atheists behaving as badly as the so called “religious?” Where on earth could you find more hateful thoughts or beliefs than from the mouths and actions of the religious.

Hitler was a Catholic, Shrubua was picked by God and apparently is God to 28% of this country, etc. etc... the beat goes on...

Give Mel a break. Everyone who is attacking him (ADL and their ilk) never seem to mention that Israel is one of the most racist countries in the World. In Israel, Arabs and Jews cannot marry. In Israel, Arabs have no rights while an Israeli who doesn't even live in Israel has more rights than an Arab. Israel is also against Free Speech by clamping down on Mel as well as watching Ernst Zundel rot in a German prison. The US is following Israel's lead by caging protestors and pressuring Amazon to drop the book "America Deceived" by E.A. Blayre III. Mel Gibson can say whatever he wants (and so can the ADL). However, let's not fall down the slippery-slope and start banning speech.

The likely fallout - a few more apologies, some more bad press, a crash and burn in H-wood, followed by a fullscale shift to all-"Christian" movies all the time. I believe he got a lot of his "Passion of the Christ" funding through Christian sources, not through studios or production companies. As some of you may be aware, there is a complete, hermetically sealed, parallel "Christian" universe in this country - music, radio, websites, TV, books, blogs, business roundtables, clubs, youth groups, social networks, daycare, after school programs, camps, 12-step programs, "Christian" doctors, shrinks, big "christian" contingents in the US militaries, HHS, CDC, FEMA, various foreign "aid" departments, schools, K - through PhD and well, you name it. These people live in a self-contained world from which they no longer have to emerge which suits many of them just fine. They are perfectly happy to shell out for the "Left Behind" series which has already been made into a series of movies (starring Lou Gossett and Kirk Cameron - not A-listers but so what). They are perfectly happy to invest in these ventures too and many of them will make a lot of money doing it.

That's where Mel will land, comfortably. He won't have to close the bowling alley.

What really irks me is that Stupid Mel has created a big "anti-semite" stir at the VERY moment in time when Israel -- and those who blindly support anything and everything Israel does -- could USE a good tongue-lashing.

He has ripped the "moral high ground" right out from under anyone who might point out that Israel is capable of being arrogant and immoral, and deserves to be taken down a notch or two for what they are doing to civilians in Lebanon.

Now, thanks to stupid Mel, anyone who might've been preparing to share that view has their mouth clamped shut for fear of being labelled "anti-semite".

Thanks Mel. You loser.

so mel gibson said that the f*&^ing jews are responsible for all the wars today. how far from the truth is that? if the jews werent in israel today it is highly likely that none of the middle eastern conflicts would be happening. It is too bad you cant see this.

The jews hold themselves apart . They are the chosen ones and everyone else is a gentile. F*$# that I say. I am so tired of hearing "gentiles" suck up to their jewish masters. Even a dog eats from his masters table says the new testament. I am no dog. If you read the jewish bible and believe it we are all genealogically jews. now tell me why some jews are better than others.

As to Mel Gibson being washed up. Thats the biggest joke of all. He spent 25 million out of his own pocket to finance a move that grossed 370 million and is somewhere around number 10 all time. mel gibson is a badass. I will definately go see his next movie.

Uhh . . . no. Mel Gibson was ranting about "the Jews," not a military-industrial complex which includes Jews. If you agree that viewing "the Jews" as an undifferentiated mass who are responsible for all of the world's wars is accurate and fair, then agree with his statement as expressed by him and be done with it. Don't try to either misrepresent or rationalize his words, which at least had the virtue of being straightforward and crystal clear.

Mel Made a Big Mistake

I would never approve of Mel's behavior. He made a big mistake and he's in a high profile job. However, I grew up when Senator Ted Kennedy got drunk, drove off a bridge drowning his female passenger after a party, and went to great lengths to cover it up by not notifying athorities until the next day when he was sober. Somehow he has continued to be re-elected to office without so much as a mention from anyone. I think that's disgraceful.
Then there's Marion Berry who was filmed making a drug deal, used cocaine and still gets re-elected as Mayor of DC. I think that's disgraceful.
What Mel did could also have killed someone, regardless of his unacceptable comments. He's a great actor/filmaker who made a serious mistake, but nothing like Kennedy or Berry whom we have chosen to overlook.

It seems a bit contradictory for alternet to have one article stating:

If we paid as much attention to shady backroom deals between governments and arms dealers as we do to celebrities, the world would be a much safer place (Frida Berrigan, Tomdispatch.com).

And then to have another article focus solely on a hollywood celebrity and his anti-semitic moral values. Stunning developments in the news today...some guy adds to the mystification of the political economy by trivialising news with superficial pop culture.

I mean, it was a good article, but in the end, what's it all for? Does alignment mean anything to you?

Thanks for letting me speak out, keep the writing coming.

Anti-Gentile
Posted by: werewolf on Aug 3, 2006 3:50 AM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The word anti-semite can only be decribed of non-Jewish people who hate the Jews. To be fair to the gentiles and Arabs there should be a word that should be created and made popular to describe the hatred of the Jews against the Arabs and gentiles . As Anti-semetic has come to mean hatred of the Jews only (including European Jews - the Jewish media has seen to that) it cannot, unfortunately, be used to denote hatred of the Arabs who are Semetic. The scale of destruction of Lebanon and its population in the name of rescuing just two Jew soldiers is ample proof that the Jews hate the Arabs and the gentiles who oppose their hateful tactics in the occupied countries and Lebanon in particular.

So it is imperative that we coin a specific word describing the hatred of the Jews for the non-Jews.

I would suggest taht we use the word anti-gentile.

As anti-semetism is punishable by law so should anti-gentilism. Otherwise, the Jews will be free to practice its hatred of the non-Jews, and sadly, this is the reality today.

It is important that the Jews are measured in the same yardstick they measure us.

Up front (they don't call me "Spock" for no reason), I go from Internet forum to forum, in order to gauge and assess the state of the nation's discourse. I'm gathering data for a doctoral thesis, and this is part of what I need to learn. The state of the nation's discourse is pretty dismal - at least as a democratic tool by which to solve problems and contribute.

This topic was at the top of the page, so it's my first comment on AlterNet.

First, I've learned in my seventy years that drunks say things they can neither remember and are flabbergasted to learn they said. Something, I'm told by a psychologist friend, like "projection." It's a little like a weird dream. We seem to get them from our environment, not ourselves.

A lot of years ago, a guy in my outfit (Army) was famous (or infamous - it's always about point of view, isn't it?) - for hiis used of the word "nigger." He was, as far as we all could discern, a flaming bigot. Bradley went almost a hundred yards under mortar and machinegun fire one morning, to drag a guy named Johnson back to safety. Johnson was black.

When anyone says they're sorry for what they said or did, you measure yourself with you response. Not the guy who's saying he's sorry.

Even if we were to assume that it is 100% true that Mel Gibson is a bigot... so what!

It is NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO BE A BIGOT. It is against the law to DISCRIMINATE (and I doubt Mel Gibson was checking any job applications at the time he was being arrested).

So basically what the Jews and Hollywood are saying is that IT IS NOT OK to discriminate against anyone for their race, color, creed, religion, etc., UNLESS they have a opinion that dissents from thier own... Does that sound like a free country to you?

The man has a right to work like anyone else. Just because his opinion differs from the Jews (and Hollywood) it is somehow "OK" to discriminate against him?

Souds like lawyer logic from the Socialist Republic of California if you ask me...

I hope that place falls off the map!!!

If Mel had said “Zionists” or “Israel” instead of “f-ing Jews” during his drunken tirade, most of the bloggers on this site would be praising his “courageous stand against the Israel lobby.”

Now that’s a double-standard if ever I saw one. Jewish Americans go to such pains to distinguish themselves from the state of Israel when the Jewish state blows up Arab women and children. So I suppose that allows progressives to hate the nation of Israel with a clear conscience? Does it now?

I’ve got news for you – VIRULENT HATRED OF ISRAEL IS CLOSET ANTI-SEMITISM, regardless of what Spielberg and Streisand tell you. They just want to have their cake and eat it, the hypocrites.

And I wonder, did Mel get pissed at the “f-ing Jews” before or after Hollywood’s most powerful Hebrews raked him over the coals for “Passion of the Christ?”

I can just see the thought bubbles over the heads of Christian-haters like Bill Maher – “Great! Mel gives us the chance to really stick it to those stupid Christians! That’ll teach you to vote Republican, you stupid, knuckle-dragging rubes!”

So all of Christendom gets crucified by the left for one angry Catholic’s drunken tirade?

Give me a f-ing break.

What is amazing to me is that one of the top 5 GOP possible for '08 as well as the Fox News Subcontractor to the White House Press Office, Tony Snow(job) used the colorful reference of "tar baby". This was barely a blip on the screen and forgotten about in a day. These two are sober government employees spewing that shit. However, when Mel, a private citizen makes a statement while being severely intoxicated that granted is over the top however arguably has some merit, he his destroyed in the media own and run by dare I say “Jews”. Please spare me the Holocaust drivel as the forefathers of African Americans suffered a fate on the same order of the Holocaust if not greater. They just don’t have the wherewithal to produce a movie every week to remind us or to make sure that a stupid off hand belligerent comment like the one Mel made gets more play than the slaughter of hundreds of innocent Lebanese or Palestinians. I know, I know, they are targeting kids on bus stop benches. Have you seen the pictures of the beautiful little 6 and 7 year old Israeli girls writing cute little notes on the war-heads of Israels US made sidewinder missles? I am note sure what they are wrtting but somehting tells me it is not an invite to come over for some kishka.

BTW: I hope my writing "Jew" did not offend any people of the Jewish faith. I write this because as of late it is being said that the term "Jew" is derogatory. It is quite confusing as where I grew up (highest concentrations of Jews outside Israel) whenever one of my Jewish friends or classmates was asked "what are you?", they would almost always answer "I'm a Jew" or "I am Jewish". All the other kids would say, "I am Irish" or "I am Italian". I guess this explains why so many “Jews” confuse their allegiance to US with that of their "homeland" and feel what is good for Israel is good for America. An extreme example of this behavior would be Mr. Franklin, the Pentagon spy convicted on several counts of treasonous activity for AIPAC. (For more on this http://www.jonathanpollard.org/2005/061205.htm) However this happens on many levels throughout our society. Castrating Mel is part of it.

While I am on this rant, I do want to write something about the many conflicts that Israel is involved with in the Middle East. For the few who actually believe the right for Israel to bomb who and what they want, when they want (when it comes to the world community and the US, this would in nearly all cases be the world vs. US/Israel – something you rarely see exposed in US media) under the guise of self protection, can we not for a moment strip out all the politics, spin and endless trivialization of the situation and agree to this; In shear deaths, that is human kills, civilian or otherwise, Israel leads on all its conflicts on the order of 10:1 to 100:1 depending on how you measure. Cannot we not then agree Israel has the upper hand it the situation if not outright control?

Spare me the anti-Semitic bullshit. Also, I do not consider myself anti-Zionist but certainly I am not pro-Zionist either. I do think the Israeli leadership is cowardly and criminal and are using the Bush Neocon Cabal to further their ends. I think Feith, Pearl and Wolfowitz are traitorous and should be brought to justice. I wonder if they are treated like heroes when they go to temple?

Lastly, could someone please make prequel to a Holocaust movie? It seems that the endless Holocaust movies that come out are always during or after. I want to know what transpired in German society that made the Germans so angry with the Jews. Did they wake up in a bad mood or what?

As for Mel, he will either hit the gay porn circuit or we will see him at some Yum Kippur dinner wearing a yarmulke holding up a glass of Manashevits and toasting a hearty “Lchiam”.

As long as Mel brings in $$$ for the movie industry, they will welcome him. Remember the bottom line is still $$$ to investors. We need to change our society's bottom line from wealth and power grabbing of self-interest, to compassion, love, generousity, non-violence, care for the whole planet, its climate, fauna, flora, water, soil, air, food, and all of its people around the world, all with dignity and real worth. To change the industry, boycott films which do not promote a better set of values and demand a change in the bottom line. If you love to go to violent movies, where things get blown up contributing unnecessary pollution into the air, if you like to see movies with actors known to be drug addicts and live a life you would not want your children to copy, then you will get more of it from the industry. Boycott. They may be wealthy and powerful, but they depend on you, each and every one of us for their source of wealth and power. So together, we control them!!! Let's use our power!!!

What about Israel?

Religious Jews support Israel, a country that has engaged in mass ethnic cleansing of Gentiles and the mass torture of Gentiles.

In other words, where Jews live as a majority, they promote ethnic cleansing, segregation and inequality. We are a predatory species and this is how predators act.

That doesn't make this Jewish behavior right, only understandable.

Isn't a funny t-shirt the best way to render the crazed words of people not in their right minds irrelevant? Laughing at the haters has a way of neutralizing their senseless hate, no?

The Mass Media has made many attacks against Mel..not to say what he did was all holy cause it wasnt. But dang, enough is enough already...lets move on..isn't there more important issues in the world that we should be looking at instead of the personal lives of celebrity. There is always someone who is going to say something at one part of there lives. Nobody is perfect. Even the people who talk about him like a dog got skeletons in their closets. Mel is too good an artist and innovator in the film industry to just define his whole existance and lifes work on one mistake he made. It's like ever since he made "Passion of the Christ" he has been getting a hard time from the media. And not only Christians, but other religiouse groups found inspiration in this movie. Man and all I got to say is...If you didnt like the movie, then dont get mad at mel...he got it from the bible in the first place, so if you want to get mad at somebody...then get angry at the Bible. I am not even Christian and I enjoyed the movie. Alcoholism isnt something to be proud of...but he is not the only "tortured artist" in America going through this or some other drama. Everyone has some type of vice, I just think people really need to stop being so damn self righteous and become more humble when judging people. We all saw how Michael Richards went all "off the hook" with his sick remarks about black people hanging off of trees and stuff, and his ass is supose to be jewish. But that story came and went...so why are will still now forever talking about Mel Gibson...that aint even right man. Its not right how the media is all one sided, we cant act like we dont see it, its as plain as day...from mainstream news regarding the war...to Bill Clintons booty call...Its just time to move on man, for real.
