According to the Drum Major Institute's 2005 legislative scorecard, the majority of congressmembers failed the middle class on key issues like health care and energy policy. However, as Jill of Feministe notes, congresswomen did a much better job of sticking up for the middle class than their male colleagues.

While only 16% of the House is female, 32% of those who scored A’s on the 2005 Scorecard were women- and, astonishingly, 40% of women in the House got A’s, compared to just 16% of men. In the Senate, which is only 14% female, 22% of Senators who scored A’s were women, and 14% of female senators got A’s, compared to 8% of male senators.

Congresswomen still aren’t doing well enough. The average grade that congresswomen earned in both the House and the Senate was just a “C”- but that’s still a significant improvement on the congressmen and Congress as a whole, whose overall average was an “F”. [DMI]

how long it will be before the middle class is phased out entirely and replaced by a system made up only of the unbelievably rich and the poor? considering how much it costs to get elected, can any of those in congress be considered middle class? and considering that the types of legislation passed or under consideration recently seem to favor the rich and piss on the middle class, do they care about that part of their electorate?

As long as the "middle class" ignores the attrocities and lies of this Administration, and as long as they vote, unconsciously, the way the media spins the direction these windbags blow, things will only get worse for the middle class. Turn off your TV. Speak with your actions, not with a whine in your voice. You want progres - demand it! Write letters, form or join groups working for the middle class. Don't buy products that sustain companies that lobby Congress and end up costing you your lifestyle, liberty and your pursuit of happiness. Study the candidates - not the proganda their spin doctors produce, then get behind candidates that mirror your values. It you don't find one, shake the bushes until you do! GET INVOLVED -or- CONTINUE TO BE WALKED ON.
