Vatican warns Amnesty on abortion

Don't do it or else.

I think Sonny Liston plays the part of Amnesty in this one.

Amnesty International and the Vatican are gearing up for a fight over abortion.

Using a curious phrase, Cardinal Renato Martino, "who heads the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Peace and Justice and the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People," warned that by "doing this, they cut off their hands." (Gah!)

The "this" is Amnesty dropping its neutral stance on abortion and pushing for it as a human right. They're seeking to decriminalize it in countries that already have repressive laws, like El Salvador and it's Forensic Vagina Specialists.

Martino went on to say that "if they do, they are disqualified as defenders of human rights."

Wow, if they disagree on this issue they're "disqualified"? How does one get "disqualified"? That's a bit hysterical, but then, in the eyes of the Vatican, abortion is murder. But then again, they refuse to sanction birth control, which is an unconscionable and ultimately cruel position given food shortages in a changing world.

But Amnesty, "founded by Catholic lawyer Peter Benenson in 1961" doesn't believe that the Vatican has a red phone to G-d.

Back in 2000 Amnesty joined other groups in pushing for legalized abortion in the UN's declaration on women's rights, opposed by the Vatican. At the time, "Amnesty... accused the Vatican of entering into an unholy alliance with a number of Muslim and developing countries to stop abortion from being enshrined in international law."

Hint to the Vatican: If you want to have a say in what happens to women's bodies, a good start would be to NOT pretend that men are better than women by refusing to allow them to join the ordained hierarchy. Just a thought.

The Pope doesn't care about children being raped.

The organization responsible for clergy sex abuse, the coverup of that abuse, the spread of that abuse to other dioces, the cursades, the inquisition, destructive and at times murderous "missionary work" throughout the world throughout thier history, as well as myriad other crimes against humanity has NO place to talk about others being "disqualified" as fighting for human rights.

You can see how much the Catholic church actually cares about people, even its own faithful by looking at the punitive church and school closings in the Boston area after the laity dared to question the child-raping priests and their enabling bishops and the way Bernard Law was spirited away to the Vatican for a nice fat promotion and Sean O'Malley was made a Cardinal for nicely quieting down the furor over these crimes and going forward with said closings... all while the Vatican is rolling in cash which could have easily kept those churches open. After all... if you insist on being "catholic", you might want to be slightly more catholic with your funds when facing massive church closings in a large urban area with a large number of Catholics.

wOW - Disqualified, huh? What to do to get reclaasified, again to be admitted amongst those godly guardians of morality? Let's elevate the coat hanger, dripping with the blood of an innocent, as the only alternative for women living in THIS century to pursue rights of reproduction. Let's use the rules set down by a bunch of decidedly un-masculine men who so admire the young boy! Let's allow those garbed in flowing robes and bling to-die-for that cascades over their well-fed bellies, these sanctimonous translators of god's word, yeah, them, proclaim women must follow their holy rules to guide the most important decision they'll ever face. The sanctity of family is elevated when clear planning is involved. Family planning helps guarantee the love, nurturing and the feasiblity to ensure finances would be stable, because that's how intelligent life better works out. When you've got a plan you tend not to eff up quite as much. When you cede your body and mind to hypocritical purveyors of holy shit you only succeed in furthering the spread of Aids, Infectuous disease, poverty, starvation and all horrors that could be easily prevented without the voodoo of religious fanatical fundamentalism. Wherever it comes from it's equally sordid, be it the ayatollahs, imams, tribal lords , vatican vultures or Compassionate Conservative Talibanistas (embarrasingly our own homegrown bushite empire- maker -wannabes). Whenever anyone invokes their personal relationship with god, recounts conversations they've shared and signs they've received (even a potato chip with Mary's portrait), I run for cover. It's bad enough Jehovah's Witnesses & their ilk run freely thru our streets, ringing doorbells, slinging their visionary prophecies. At least, with them, we can not answer the bell or slam the door. Let's SLAM THE DOOR permanently on those who dare dictate their perverted obsessive sacreligious compulsions over us!
