It's the day after the Connecticut State Democratic Convention and all is right with the world.

While George W. Bush's favorite Democratic lackey, Joe Lieberman, was officially nominated by the convention for the U.S. Senate seat he has held for three terms, Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont, the candidate of the true Democratic wing of the party, garnered enough support to force Lieberman into a primary this summer.

Lamont finished with an astounding 505 delegates -- after only announcing his candidacy in March -- to Lieberman's 1,004 and will now go head-to-head with Bush's Boy in the August 8 primary.

The vote was a huge victory for Lamont and for all of us who have grown increasingly disgusted with Lieberman's continued support for Bush and an Iraq war that the vast majority of the country now believes was a catastrophic mistake.

You can find excellent, detailed coverage of the convention from our friend Matt Stoller at MyDD.com and at LamontBlog.

"Everywhere I'm going, people are telling me, 'We want this primary, we want a debate on the war and the direction of the country,'" said Lamont after the vote.

Meanwhile, Lieberman supporters tried to keep a brave face and gave lame arguments about supporting Lieberman based solely on tenure and Lamont's newcomer status. "This guy has come out of the woodwork," delegate Bob Bradley said, referring to Lamont. "You don't know what he's going to do."

That may be true in some areas but, in life, sometimes making a decision comes down only to knowing what most assuredly is not good for you any longer. And having a Democratic Senator who embraces George W. Bush and the lies he proffered to take us to war, is not what we need. And there is certainly no longer a place in the Democratic party for the likes of Lieberman, who has consistently supported a president leading the country in a direction that polls show Americans massively rejecting.

Gregory Spear, a member of the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee, summed it up handily: "With 77 percent of the Connecticut citizens against the war and probably 95 percent of the state's Democrats against the war, the party has no business nominating a pro-war candidate for senator."

I hate that jingo bastard. I've hated him since the time, when Clinton was under siege with Lewinsky, and people were getting indicted and going to prison for the empty charges of Whitewater, he felt it necessary to stand on his hind legs and denounce Clinton from the floor of the Senate.

Lieberman was supposed to be a personal friend of Clinton's. He may have disapproved--hell, I was angry and disapproved plenty--but the world didn't need another voice added to the rabble, and from a friend, you'd think that silence and a lack of support would have sufficed.

Not for fucking Joe-look-at-me-I'm-the-King-of Morality-Lieberman.

It went straight downhill from there. He's betrayed his constituency, and deserves to be sent out of office. The man is a pig on wheels.

I want my musicians to be able to say fuck as often as they feel necessary.

As a resident of Connecticut, I feel it my duty to rid the state of this "puppet" of the bush administration.. It is one thing to go into the war and support it, and another to continue to support it as the evidence became clear that the intelligence was being "fixed" around policy. Once a friend of WTIC's Colin McCenroe , Lieberman no longer conducts his weekly visit to the afternoon 3 to 6 show. The visits came to an abrupt end when Colin, (who enjoys his own voice immensely and rarely gives co-host Bruce Stevens more than 3 seconds to his 57 seconds per minute air time), forced the issue as to why Lieberman supported the war and asked frankly why lieberman deserved re-election. Lieberman became audibly upset and defensive. I was shocked at Lieberman's on air conduct. I felt that he believes that just by virtue of his tenure , that re-election is assured. I also felt that his conduct gave the listener the idea that he believes nobody has the right to question his support for bush, and "how dare you question me". His comfort level is obvious and not warranted. I will vote against him. Let me also add this. His un-dying support for the Israel state is annoying.. I don't care if there are 3 million Jews living in Israel.. I would not care if 3 million blacks or Chinese lived there.. USA policy should NOT be dictated by Isreal.. they choose to live there.. let them defend themselves.

It's great news that Ned will run off against the incumbent democrat. I really think that he has a good chance of knocking him out in the primary and I most certainly hope that he does. This should send a clear message to all the straddle the fence, "I'm afraid that be labled as unpratriotic", Dems.

Every true Democrat in America should contribute to Ned Lamont's campaign. It's time we threw the DINO-fuck Lieberman under the bus once and for all.
