United Flight 93, the film depicting the events of the thwarted 9/11 hijacking has become the subject of a curious controversy.

After Crooks and Liars' John Amato first noticed that the film's marketing team purchased ads on every blog in the Conservative blog network -- and none from the liberal counterpart -- Chris Bowers got rolling.

In a heartfelt post on the film and the curious marketing campaign, the blogger and manager of the Liberal Blog Advertising Network asked:

"Why did the marketers of United Flight 93 decide to only advertise on conservative political blogs? The Liberal Blog Advertising Network is four times as large, and is even a 20-30% better deal per page view (or CPM, to use the relevant industry term). Do they think that attack is only relevant to red America? Do they think that only Republicans were attacked on 9/11? Do they think that only conservatives remember that day? Do they think that the only people who took action on United Flight 93 had voted for George Bush one year earlier?"
He continues:
The Americans aboard Flight 93 were red and blue, male and female, white and not, gay and straight. They were all heroes, and all Americans recognize them as such. All of America was attacked on that day, and all of America worked to save lives that day. There have clearly been, and continue to be, disagreements about the appropriate course of action for us to pursue as a nation in response to that day. However, on September 11th itself, we were all united, including on United Flight 93.
RESULTS! Shortly after posting the blog and questioning the film's marketing team, Bowers reports that, "Ads will be purchased on liberal blogs now. Thank you. I will watch the move on Sunday and post a review." (MyDD)

A waste of money

Why advertise on left-leaning blogs when they have stated in no uncertain terms that they are totally opposed to going to see this movie? Advertising is not a form of welfare for bloggers.

Read this.

And judging from the comments section the producers were correct in cossing not to buy an ad there originally. Not a one of the commenters there has stated that he/she will now go see the movie because of the ad there.

to know these exploitive bastards (the film's producers) seem to have been shamed into throwing some of their promo budget our way. As for the pic itself, I can only imagine its new heights in sensationalist mediocrity. But millions will lap it up. They can take my share of blind flag-waving, and post-viewing prayer meetings.

Social Conditioning-Brainwashing

It is a silent war folks. Herbert Krugman in 1969, who later became manager of public-opinion research at General electric headquarters in Connecticut (now owns NBC) decided to try to discover what goes on physiologically in the brain of a person watching TV.
Krugman found within thirty seconds, the brain waves switched from mainly beta waves, signaling alert and conscious attention, to mainly alpha waves, signaling an unfocused, receptive lack of attention: the state of aimless fantasy and daydreaming below the threshold of consciousness.
This discovery is what created the multi-billion dollar industries of media, advertising, and marketing along with the movie industry, in the process of brainwashing the masses to conform to the `elite and blue bloods of the world. It is easier and more pleasuable to have our thought process in control.

Air Force addition to Film

Pardon me for not having seen the film yet. Did the producers add a scene with members of the White House authorizing the Air Force F-16 interceptor to shoot down the aircraft? Or the aircraft crashing elsewhere? Or an explanation for the explosion the aircraft experienced while in-flight?

Was there anything pertaining to the baloney crash site that is hyped up in the media?

The crashing of the Flight 93 is most likely a cover up. So any ending that trys to play up the current story is most likely a bunch of B.S.

So.. I'm curious about that.

This film is a progressive teaching opportunity

Lefties should take over the film, not ignore it. One of the film's messages - intended or not - is that America is NOT composed of Red patriots and Blue peacniks, but that we are ALL patriots, regardless of party or sexual orientation. We should take a leaf from the Christian Right's response to the DaVinci Code and use the film as a teaching moment to tell everybody who sees the film that progressives are as much patriotic terror-fighting Americans as conservatives - even Gay progresives. The Christian Right has turned the DaVinci Code into a mini-industry of books, tapes, flyers, meetings, to use a film that wacks them badly as a way to recruit . We should be at least half that smart with a film that arguably shows us in as good a light as it does Reps.
