Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking

When I said I'd like to smash every tooth

In your head

Oh ... sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking

When I said by rights you should be

Bludgeoned in your bed…

-- “Bigmouth Strikes Again,” The Smiths

The heir-apparent to the heinous little niche of unhinged hatemongering which Ann Coulter has carved out for herself, Michelle Malkin, is really making moves to unseat the queen these days. Her latest attempt to ascend to the throne is a real stunner. Ezra Klein describes the carnage:

[A] crew of students at UC Santa Cruz, my alma mater, protested some military recruiters, and Malkin got hold of a press release with their personal contact information -- a poorly conceived inclusion on the students' part, but then, these are undergraduates, not trained media flacks. Rather than calling and speaking to them herself, which is what members of the press are supposed to use such releases for, Malkin published their personal information on her website, prompting her hordes of orcish mouth-breathers to brandish their pitchforks and inundate the unsuspecting students with death threats (some of which you can read here). When the students frantically called on Malkin to remove their numbers, she posted their contact information again.

The invaluable John Amato, who's got some video from the scene, gets it right. Malkin, he writes, "crosse[d] the line of decency..the death threats are emanating from her blog and she knows it. Malkin understands the nature of the fear and outrage she causes. Will she take responsibility when somebody gets hurt?"

Of course she won't--because one of the hallmarks of movement conservatives is a bull-headed determination to sustain the cognitive dissonance that allows them to sing the praises of The Ownership Society (a carefully designed social Darwinist philosophy that blames anyone who struggles for their own troubles) while simultaneously shirking accountability for any of their own actions. People stuck in a desperate cycle of endemic poverty, filers of bankruptcy due to staggering medical costs, black folks stuck on rooftops in New Orleans, gays bashed to their deaths--they have no one to blame but themselves. College students receiving death threats? Progressives being widely regarded as traitors? It all happens in a void, according to people like Malkin.

Which is technically true, if we're talking about a void of ethics and intellectual honesty.

Malkin should be ashamed of herself...but she isn't, and she never will be. There's too much celebration from her collection of worshipful minions, too much infamy, too much fun to be had to let a slip of conscience get in the way.

TBogg's got more.

great pic of her, makes her look foul and insipid at the smae time, which of course she is. If she had any real ideas she wouldn't have to enlist the legions of thoughtless buffoons who follow loud-mouthed bigots to do the threatening of other people that she is too afraid to do. Bitch is too clean and pretty of a word for her....

Michelle Malkin is pathetic, and this petty attempt at bullying can't possibly derail the truth -- which is spilling to the front with surprising (and, I might add, invigorating) speed. Her boorish proclamations are sounding more and more like the desperate screams of a drowning voice that they actually are.

Not to detract from the harrassment experienced by the UCSC students (and Bill O' was going to sic some faux cops on a caller who mentions Al Franken's name? You must be joking...), but her vain rabble-rousing is quickly becoming a non-story if ever there was one.

NewsFlash, Michelle: What IS a story is the sinking ship on which your orchestra keeps playing.

She must have the freedom to continue to speak. She hasn't got enough rope yet.

Just a few more yards.

Awaiting "Law and Order"

Caveats about their stories having nothing to do with persons living or dead, actual events and so on aside, I will be unsurprised if elements of this potential dramatic "treatment" are re-worked and moved to New York. There, an idealistic but (by definition) naive, young, blonde, (preferably) virginal, female, peace activist could be hideously raped, murdered and dismembered with her body parts arranged in a darkly symbolic pattern at "ground zero."

Then, the stalwarts of some operation of the "Law and Order" franchise (most likely "SVU") could be called upon to answer the crucial question: Was this the work of savage, Islamofascist jihadists eager to set American against American? Was it the crazed patriotism of Christofascist crusaders anxious to purge "green" quislings from the righteous republic? Or, was it the zealous act of rogue, National Security fascists in thrall to the spirit of J. Edgar Hoover, and doomed to preserve democracy only by destroying it? And, just to give it more of a "reality" show twist (or a twisted reality), would ex-US Senator and current fictional DA Fred Dalton Thompson finally be "outed" as the ultimate, post-Arnie, Republican Revengitator?

Ah, the tension! The tension!

Michelle Malkin should be taken seriously. Young people, high school and college age, might be inclined to dismiss her as a "hater." Well, that she is, but she has more teeth. This is the type of person that would happily endorse Mussolini-type fascism and Hitler's Final Solution. Are people somewhat more inclined to listen to her because she is a female? Perhaps. A female might be seen as the appropriate critic to comment on the public schools and the universities. She is similar to Rush Limbaugh in being the type of commentator to blithely ignore historical reality and discuss current events in the light of history that never happened. (I will never forget listening to Rush Limbaugh rant and rave that the Native Americans were just a bunch of whiners, that they never were betrayed by our government, etcetera, etcetera) Another dangerous aspect to people like Malkin is that they try to unite different groups behind their conservative lunacy, including blacks, whites, Asians, Latinos, immigrants, women, men, teachers, and so forth, anyone that will fall for their neo con thinking.

We shouldn't be overly sure that this icon of economic and social terrorizm will continue to remain unscathed.

Her own foolish actions are most likely to form her fall, consistent with the historical record. Then there's plain old dumb luck (some might say Karma). Let's not forget little Ronnie Reagan, who ended up drooling on and otherwise soiling himself (in infamy), for an agonizing couple of decades. This has brought at least some small comfort to survivors of those he murdered by his indifference to HIV. ("Who cares about a few more dead queers and black savages?!")

We can only hope.

Hate mongers like Malkin will never ever take responsibility for their actions. They take their cue from the madman-in-chief. He hasn't once taken any personal responsiblitiy for any of his actions, which have killed thousands upon thousands. Any fault lies somewhere among all those straw men of his. If one beleives in the Bible, all of these unaccountalbes will reap what they sow.

What I would love to see is a Michael Moore-type documentary of all the hate-mongers speaking, one following the other, showing the total b.s. speak of the haters like Hannity and Limbaugh, and, for desert, those lovely women twisting their mouthes in unadulterated hate-speak ecstacy. I doubt if the majority of America has much awarness of what is being propagated on their airwaves and in front of college audiences. It would be an eye-opener! Then, for good measure, pieces of dialogue with Al Franken, Randi Rhodes, and those truth-telling patriots that never pander to their audience, but respect them enough to share the realities of our world with the facts and a bit of humor. Just a comparison of these completely divergent voices would do more to convince Americans the propaganda of hatred is so warped and disgusting, it is insulting. Kinda like those 7 minutes of "My Pet Goat' recitation by our lunatic leader when he first learned that the country he unscrupulously manipulated into allowing him to lead was being decimated by 'terraists'.
