Via BradBlog, I see that erstwhile House Majority Leader and embattled crook Tom DeLay has announced he will not seek reelection and will be leaving Congress "within months."

"I'm going to announce tomorrow that I'm not running for reelection and that I'm going to leave Congress," DeLay, who turns 59 on Saturday, said during a 90-minute interview on Monday. "I'm very much at peace with it." He notified President Bush in the afternoon. DeLay and his wife, Christine, said they had been prepared to fight, but that he decided last Wednesday, after months of prayer and contemplation, to spare his suburban Houston district the mudfest to come. "This had become a referendum on me," he said. "So it's better for me to step aside and let it be a referendum on ideas, Republican values and what's important for this district."
…"I'm a realist. I've been around awhile. I can evaluate political situations," DeLay told TIME at his kitchen table in Sugar Land, a former sugar plantation in suburban Houston. Bluebonnets are blooming along the highways. "I feel that I could have won the race. I just felt like I didn't want to risk the seat and that I can do more on the outside of the House than I can on the inside right now. I want to continue to fight for the conservative cause. I want to continue to work for a Republican majority."
Asked if he had done anything illegal or immoral in public office, DeLay replied curtly, "No." Asked if he'd done anything immoral, he said with a laugh, "We're all sinners." Asked what he would do differently, he said, "Nothing."
Charming, as always.

Ever the evasive snake, DeLay failed to mention that his decision may have less to do with a selfless interest in fighting "for the conservative cause," and more to do with, uh, this:
The decision came just three days after his former deputy chief of staff, Tony C. Rudy, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and corruption charges, telling federal prosecutors of a criminal enterprise being run out of DeLay's leadership offices.
Wanting to work for a Republican majority...scared stupid about what's coming next... tomato...tomahto. Whatever moves the shit through the pipes is fine by me.

Seeya, Tom.

I guess if K Street needs another good leader, one is on the way.

Makes me warm inside thinking about all of the good he can do from the "outside."

Earlier this past weekend DeLay was whining that he was being harassed because he's a "Christian". If he's a Christian, it's unlike any type of Christianity anyone with any sense of morality ever heard of. He said he's excited about his future. I wish someone would explain how anyone can be excited about the prospect of spending time in the hoosegow, which is where he's headed! This guy is the poster boy for crooks. He's an embarassment to his party, his district, his state, the nation, and the human race in general.

Maybe he and Katherine Harris can form a consulting company after he gets out of jail?

Be on the lookout for falling Republicans!

DeLay is found quilty of some illegal political activity and is barred from any association, activity, or office at the federal and state level. This means he can't associate with registered lobbists, holders of public office and their staffs, or with members of political action committees. I would not care if he served jail time, unless it is 50 years to life without parole, if the above is his sentence and is strictly enforced.

Sammy (The Bull) Gravano was just chickenshit crooning, backround elevator muzac, compared to the crony-chorus of the coo-coo christian crazies that will soon be harmonizing the songs of praise of the glorious deeds The Hammer performed during his religious crusade to purify America from Streisand and her libril base! It's true, after a whole lota song and dance, old Sammy took a deal and disappeared into witness protection - but, he couldn't do the 12 steps and, soon after, he done did it again. Tommy-boy just can't help hisself either. Bug-killing wasn't makin it for him so he turned his poison spraycans to his lord, who, according to Tommy-boy, commissioned him to aim at those who would see and appreciate, the righteousness of his mission. Voila, republican nirvana. They just loved him ooh so much they crowned him their leader and prayed with him, to him and for him. He'll surely need some of that prayin now, tho, with his credentials and his perverted religious hypocrisy, I don't think it's gonna do much good. But, even if a dirty deal is delivered unto his feetsies, he too will be back. After all, he is the poster boy showing what the ultimate corruption in having too much power placed in the filfthy hands of a cheating, lying, greedy exterminator produces. Even tho I abhor and fear crawling critters, I'll be transfixed watching the pictures of the scurrying buggies crawling over one another to evade criminal sentences by delivering up the grand roach himself! ENJOY WITH ME!
