Maybe those five deferments weren't such a bad idea after all.

I kid you not.

Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a man during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, his spokeswoman said Sunday.

Harry Whittington, 78, was "alert and doing fine" after Cheney sprayed Whittington with shotgun pellets on Saturday at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.

Armstrong said Cheney turned to shoot a bird and accidentally hit Whittington. She said Whittington was taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

The indispensable Brad Friedman points out that some reports are noting the shooting incident took place yesterday at 5:30pm, and asks:

Did they wait until they could report that he would be fine before releasing it at all? Would we have found out about at all, therefore, if the man had died? Did they wait until after it could be discussed on the Sunday News shows?

Meanwhile, Josh Marshall picks up on another angle of Brad's reporting--that the property owner of the land on which the shooting occurred, Katharine Armstrong, is the daughter of one of the people who hired Cheney at Halliburon. Marshall also notes:

I don't know whether there's anything more to say about the fact that Vice President Cheney sprayed a fellow hunter with shotgun shot than that it is a decent analog to the recent management of the country.

This just in: Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has reversed his previous opinion and now says he considers it an ethics violation to fraternize with the veep. He will no longer join Mr. Cheney on future hunting trips.

"...Scalia has reversed his previous opinion and now says he considers it an ethics violation to fraternize with the veep. He will no longer join Mr. Cheney on future hunting trips."

Priceless!

When he's not shot gunning the general vicinity, Cheney reportedly enjoys blasting away on canned hunts -- essentially open-air abattoirs.

Quite the shining example...

Perhaps Dick could invite the insurgents to attend one of his hunting trips?

In Bush's next speech he could talk about a new plan for victory.

I'm sure the "Murican" people would fully support such an "act of bravery" on the VP's part!!!

I'm thoroughly surprised anyone would let the creepy vp near a gun. I'm surprised he didn't shoot himself, then claim it was an act of terrorism. Isn't it dangerous to the national security for him to take time off from his organ grinding and jerking on the monkey's leach, which in effect allows the monkey to run around without his keeper, or did they put him in his cage while creepy was off trying to murder someone? It's a frightening thought that creepy allowed the monkey to run the country all by itself, but then again T-blossom was still there to yank on the monkey's chain, although that allowed the monkey to tell another fish story about stopping the terrorist from attacking 'merica. The heroics just never end. I wonder how much time the monkey took off from coloring in his coloring books, and riding his bicycle to think up a fish story all on his own? But then again, when someone is a professional liar he probably had the fish story all made up and ready to spring at the first chance he got, when his main organ grinder/keeper was away. But what does the wood carver know? He know a lie when he hears one.

This is one Vietnam vet who, in retrospect, is glad that Cheney was able to secure five deferments during the Vietnam era. Can you imagine the carnage of "friendly fire" he could have unleashed with an M-16?

Natural selection and gun laws

I strongly believe in the value of human life, but I also believe in natural selection. As humans we seem to keep messing up nature’s laws all the time and make laws that in effect are a determent to the species. If natural selection had been allowed to work its laws in life we would not have the President we have in public office. Please let us rethink gun laws, seat belt laws, and helmet laws. Let the educated adopt safety and sanity. Why force the ignorant to live? Give them all guns and send them to Texas to play. We have only our selves to blame. I believe I’ll reexamine the purchase of that leather jacket with a Kevlar lining.

no *there's* a nice nom du jour for the imperial veep.

WIth any luck, Cheney was praticing to take his turn at the front lines of the War on Nouns. That'll teach those pesky Iraqis to yell "Pull!" at a crowded wedding.

Does this mean Cheney finally gets on his own no-fly list?

Ballad of Other Priorities

Loaded buckshot in Cheney's gun
Searching out, some lawyers bun
Firing quickly, he puts him down
That's why your veep, is a big assclown

All his friends they call him Danger
All his deferrments made him a stranger
to proper gun handling technique
that's why your veep, is up sh*t creek

Mistaking cronies for hefty quail
Sometimes ol' Cheney, runs off the rail
He says he's sorry, but damn that's lame
cause what he meant, is he's a lousy aim

Thank you, thank you very much

(Really, two minutes of post-yoga deep thoughts got me this...heh heh)

How could an "experienced" bird hunter like Cheney do such a dumb thing? Cheney's 78 year old victim is either a Democrat or a Republican who voted for Kerry. Good thing they were hunting quail instead of deer as a rifle slug probably would have killed the poor guy. Then Cheney would have seen first hand a dead person shot to death just like in a real war, which Mr. Cheney has never been anywhere near.

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL HARRY

A large section of our country knows how Mr Whittington feels because Vice President Cheney has caused them great pain for a number of years. Making it even more difficult is their pain is not accidental but by design.

One wound inflicted by warrantless domestic spying another older one from lying to Congress about weapons of mass destruction. Another blast from conducting a war in violation of international law followed by the pain of engaging in torture of terror suspects. Hit between the eyes with the outsourcing of torture through "rendition" plus a flesh wound from the use of white phosphous and other illegal weapons.

Our country is in critical condition with wounds to domestic policy truth, international policy truth and American honor inflicted by our vice president.

I fear our national recovery will be much longer and more difficult than Harry's.

Whatever it is, it's time to take Big Dick's hunting license away, no? Scary to think this man is planning wars... no wonder everything is so f'ed up.

I wonder if this "accidental" shooting would have occure if Cheney had received some basic traing in the use of weaponry and safety? Oh!, I forgot! Because he had was prevented from military service by those darned deferments, he never learned those basic rules. Come to think of it, this guy should not be allowed to use or direct the use of any military hardware!

George W. Bush's diary entry
Posted by: doinaheckuvajob on Feb 15, 2006 10:27 PM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I'm writin' here in my diary today 'cause what I want to say is top-secret, see, an' I tol' everyone ah don't do email, 'cause everybody knows you can't really erase it, plus this here diary's got a good lock on it, an' only me 'n' Karl have the key, see, so it' secure, just like our ports and nucular installations. Secure. So anyway, diary, ah'm really upset today 'cause Dick's causin' a big controroaraversy out there an' it's bad for our image. Now, see, ah'm out talkin' about our new plans for Medicare -heh-heh-heh, savin' acounts, catapulting the propaganda so that we can get rid of those spendin' programs an' all our seniors'll be better off, jus' like the Katrina of health care, we can make it happen. So anyway, what does Dick go off an' do, he shoots our friend in the face an' that ain't a crime in Texas nor Florida, see. So I'm talkin' to McLellan, to Turd Blossom an' Laura an' my other wives -heh-heh-heh, Condie an' Karen. An' they're sayin', well we make it out to be the victim's fault, as that's always worked before, but this time it din' work. So we gotta come up with another plan. But, see, with all this goin' on, I can't ride my bike an' my workouts are interrupted. It's hard work. Which is makin' me real mad at Dick. I hired him so ah wouldn't have to work so hard, see, an' he's screwin' up my plan. So, diary, ah gotta figure out some ways to get the heat off Dick an' me, so that we can get back to doin' the things we like best and do best: war and disaster profiteerin', detainin' an' torturin', underminin' civil liberties,
gettin' that Supreme Court straightened out, an' makin' sure all those government agencies are screwed up plenty so's we can privatize them with the industries they oversee. I gotta remember to tell Dick, when your drinkin', I know this from experience, with that whopper ah told people about chokin' on pretzels when ah was so wasted, be sure you got somebody around to cover your ass, but he doedn't like that kinda talk, he's a take charge guy. Diary, ah'm gettin' madder every moment ah write this. Can't we bomb Iran a little sooner? But Karl says we gotta wait until after the Olympics an' he's right ah course, all the little people are focused on those teenage skaters. Ah love those teenage skaters, they remind me of what my daughters would've been like if they'd been raised right, all prim an' proper an' graceful an' not drinking like daddy. Oh and Gannon/Guckert, I gotta get him to come in and give us all some relief, 'cause that might be the only way to get everybody to calm down enough to figure this thing out so's ah can get back to doin' what ah do best -catapulting the propaganda an' ridin' my bike, 'cause right now, dear diary, ah am really mad. Ah know, ah'll delegate this to Karl, an' that way tonite ah can get another workout in to make up for missin' one yesterday. Thanks diary, for helpin' me think a that one.
