Why we can't capture Bin Laden

In light of Bin Laden's most recent communiqué, it's worth revisiting the big question: why hasn't Bush, 4+ years after the fact, been able to get him?

With all the administration accusations of "pre-9/11 thinking" to justify any and all liberty-reducing measures, it's all the more disconcerting to learn that, according to ex-CIA Larry Johnson's sources: "the bureaucratic walls that separated the law enforcement and intelligence communities prior to 9-11 are back up and higher than ever."

Johnson also notes that nobody's actually in charge of capturing Bin Laden: "If you ask the CIA Chief in Pakistan, he'll tell you he is in charge of the mission. If you ask the CIA Chief in Afghanistan, you will get a similar answer. If you ask General Brown at SOCOM he will tell you that he has the mission. And, if you ask the folks at CENTCOM and at JSOC you will get similar responses..."

Here's another theory, wacko though it may seem. Some have suggested that the worst thing that could happen to the fragile right wing coalition would be for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. Its existence and promises to overturn it are simply too powerful a rallying cry to be replaced.

Could the capture of Bin Laden function similarly? Could the continued freedom of Bin Laden function as a free-floating bogeyman for the Bush administration to whip out when fear ebbs and civil liberties come to the fore?

Naah, that's just crazy talk. (BoomanTribune)

One reason Bin Ladin isn't captured is the very governments Bush is in cahoots with is protecting him. Does any sane person believe Bin Laden is hiding out in a Saddam "Spider Hole"? Pakistan and Saudi Arabia come easily to mind. Bush has a Bachelors' in history and should study the American Indian wars and how savages with not a days schooling made fools of West Pointers. Our Bin Laden hunt is like going after ants with a hand grenade

Anyone who compares Bin Laden's behavior when we knew 100% for sure he was alive will see that he always needed to be in control and in the center of attention. The reports of his death end of 2001 are much more credible than the photoshopped or edited pictures, audio tapes, etc. that come out whenever convenient to the administration.
Required watching for all should be the film, "Power of Nightmares" by the BBC!

Roe v. Wade

I’ve felt for a long time that millions of voters vote for repubs
due to the abortion issue alone, even though they are voting
against their own best interests when they do. If Roe v. Wade
were overturned, a lot of these voters would switch sides.
Abortion would still be available in a number of states.
If this were to happen, I propose that organizations such as
NARAL continue to raise funds and use them to set up a
clearinghouse for women seeking abortions. Such a
clearinghouse could offer counseling and advice on abortion,
assist in making arrangements and assist in funding the
added expenses(airfare, hotel, etc.) brought on by the change
in abortion law. It would not be an ideal situation but it might
help us get our country back.

So, I always wondered what the Repubs would do if they actually got everything they wanted...no more working class thanks to outsourcing and tax breaks for the rich. Instead, they get a very pissed off (and very poor) population-- lots of pissed off youngns who had to be born into a world that maybe their parents didn't want to bequeath to them thanks to overturning Roe v Wade...Yeah...and now Bin Laden Speaks and we don't raise the terror level---no, no, no we save that for "unsubstantiated" possible "terror threats" ..... are we getting the picture yet? Here and Now, Boys -- its Marketing!

If I were Bin Laden, I would hide out where they would never expect to see me. New York. At the Dakota.

I agree that Bin Laden hasn't been caught because Bush doesn't want to.

If anyone of us had volunteered to do a task and in 5 years with all the resources of the world at our disposal, had failed; our employers would rightfully think that we were incompetent and fire us. Most of us would have gotten the boot long before this 5 years.

Should Bin Laden pull off another attack on the mainland, I'd say that's evidence of gross incompetence and dump Bush immediately. And Barbara and George Sr. should be pulled into court for crimes against humanity just for hatching the little monster.
