Well, it turns out Bob Woodward hasn't lost his secret-keeping touch. After having kept the identity of Deep Throat a secret for so long, it was a cinch to keep his involvement in Leakgate a secret -- even as he commented on it in public.

Josh Marshall writes: "From the Post account it appears that Woodward was told of Valerie Plame's identity before any other journalist by an as-yet-unnamed senior administration official who is not Karl Rove or Scooter Libby."

Yet he kept it secret from his editors and traipsed around as a critic of the investigation. Shameful. He only told his editors when he received a subpoena himself. Woodward's statement is [HERE]. (TPM)

HE wasn't the person who actually leaked her name, was he? His criticizing of the investigation was crass considering he was in the know, but last I heard, if telling a secret is a crime, keeping it isn't.

You've given us a great, succinct version ... a Cliff's notes for the stunned and bewildered. WTG.

Woodward wouldn't, would he?

Mr. Woodward's failure to disclose was obviously a way for him to shield his partisanship in the matter as he flitted across the media trashing the Fitzgerald investigation. Once again the tactic of claiming the reporter's shielding of the source is deployed as Mr. Woodward sought to protect his, who, I predict with certainty, will turn out to be none other than Cheney!

I thought it odd that Woodward was denigrating the investigation in his rounds of the blab shows. Could be he wanted to prevent this from becoming bigger than Watergate, as I believe it will, and diminishing his poobah status and access to the big Bushies. Fame, like power, corrupts.

What a shock. How the mighty have fallen. From bringing a President down to protecting one in a similar position. Sad sad sad.
