See, now this is the rolling ball of crappy coverage. Without widespread public knowledge that some campaign was patently, categorically, objectively fraudulent, the path is paved for secondary fraud. To wit:

The Times quotes one Merrie Spaeth lavishing Miers with praise calculated to combat the criticism that she's unqualified "Miers was one of the female policy and legal wonks who made up a 'pushy-broad network' in Dallas. 'Harriet can get really excited about a Fifth Circuit rule...'" And then, just for kicks, let's include this (because lord knows you can't be well-dressed and wonky): "She would look at you blankly if you mentioned the name of a designer."

And who is she? How about the brains behind the Swift Boat swindle? For folks who value their savvy above all else, the Times allows itself to get swindled quite a bit. But then, to point out that she coordinated a smear campaign to change the course of American politics wouldn't be objective, would it? (Frankenblog)
