At yesterday's press briefing the president's spokesman Scotty McClellan said that

"the President is focused on making sure we have the strongest possible coordination with state and local governments in the path of Hurricane Rita... and that's what we're working to do."
Not that anyone's shocked but it doesn't look that way so far. Will Bunch, the go-to blogger on the levee failures, weighs in on the situation in Houston:
"The woman pictured at the top of this entry is named Hortense Davis. She is 73 years old and lives in a flood-prone section of Houston... Clearly, George W. Bush is not focusing on her. Because Hortense Davis desperately wants to get the hell out of Houston. And no one is helping her. It is New Orleans deja vu all over again."
Bunch pulled her story from the Houston Chronicle: "This post is titled, and you'll be sick to your stomach when you see this: 'So Many People, So Few Buses.'" (Attytood)

Hey, Tom DeLay is here for Sugar Land and I fell so much safer. LOL!!! Seriously, our TV stations are working 24 hours non-stop. Everyone is being evacuated that have ask to be. All special needs people that are known have been taken to other cities. Everyone evacuated thru Houston and the real big problem was gasoling and miles of stop & go traffic and the roads are being emptied by buses right now. Everyone has worked really hard here and for once I am proud of our government efforts which are really the local city and county governments planning efforts and planning. There were 2.6 evacuated and thousands of special needs flown out, taken by bus and trains. So take break when you are not here to see reality. If the our local newspaper even says anything helpful or critizes stuff for once I will celebrate their enlightment. It has been such a Bush supprter that I stoped reading it.
