Sandy writes: "Canada moves left with gay marriage, we move right with John Roberts." But that's only partly accurate. The truth is, Canada made a move toward justice while we rush headlong into corruption and cronyism. Sandy continues: "It’s odd to think things are so different just a short distance away. Previously, same-sex marriage was legal in 8 of Canada's 10 provinces and one of the three territories.

"The federal government's gay marriage legislation passed its final hurdle shortly before midnight following a raucous, emotional debate in the Senate.

"The final word in the debate came from Ione Christensen, the 71-year-old Liberal senator from the Yukon. To a hushed chamber Christensen read an e-mail from a constituent:

You have no idea what a difference it makes to the human spirit to know that you are treated equally under the law."

Don' celebrate too hard, yet!

Thank you for acknowliging the passage of same-sex marriage into law in Canada. But before we celebrate too hard about the common sense, tolerance and compassion of Canada's record for being politically correct, I must share a horrific tale I found yesterday which has shaken me to the core.

Every morning I open my WizzRSS reader to Alternet feeds as well as blogs by Terry at The Republic of T. There I found the most disturbing blog I've witnessed to date. Entitled When Government Gets Religion. It involves the handling of homosexuality in Iran. Death by public hanging of two teenage boys in a town square. Yes, shocking!

With the way the American Theocorporatist Theocon Administration is curbing Liberty and Freedom and handling policy in the US, is such intolerance to be visited there again, this time against gay youth? We should never forget the abomniable discrimination and atrocious lynchings of black slaves in the US. America's history is fraught with horrendous cruelty. No, it's not quite time to celebrate. Let's confront the real evil doers...the heartless policy makers everywhere in very much need of the common sense of Canadian law. My blog is entitled Sickened by Iran
