Alexios Marakis, a Greek Orthodox priest visiting the U.S., got lost in Tampa and tried to stop and ask directions from Marine reservist Jasen D. Bruce. But instead of offering help, “Bruce struck the priest on the head with a tire iron.” The reservist believed Marakis, who spoke limited English, was an Arab terrorist. Bruce chased the priest for three blocks, “and even called 911 to say that an Arabic man tried to rob him.” According to a news release:

“During the chase, the suspect called 911 and claimed an Arabic male attempted to rob him and he was going to take him into custody,” a Tampa Police Department news release states. “When officers arrived, the suspect claimed the man was a terrorist.”

Police arrested Bruce for “aggravated battery with a deadly weapon” and are investigating whether he committed a hate crime.

Digg!

Next they will be attacking Amish, Hassidim, Chinese traditional Taoists or Native American Indian Shaman, for the same reasoning. Me, that is you and I, have paved the way for this by allowing the patriot act to stand unchallenged.

We have raised the troops Armageddon to do our scut police work for us and then we bitch because they are doing their job excellently. Were this not so I would not need to be saying things about my disgust at our behaviour as a nation.

...if these religious idiots would stop appearing in public wearing their bizarre Hallowe'en costumes, they might find themselves safer in this paranoid nut-house we call Amerika.

I mean seriously....wear your "garb" in your church, mosque, synagogue, sweat-lodge, whatever...when you go out in public, wear "normal" attire. And for Dog's sake, don't ask Imperial Storm-Troopers for directions!

Take one look at JUST this one instance of American-bred ignorance.

It's not exactly easy to confuse a Greek Orthodox PRIEST with a Muslim Cleric. The garb is different. Usually the priest wears a large cross around his neck.

But even if if WAS easy to confuse the two, it's absolutely unforgivable for this retarded, backwoods hick of a marine to CHASE this (probably elderly) man down the street after clubbing him on the head, call the COPS on him, AND then proceed to LIE about what happened over and over again, TO THE POLICE!

"Hey, buddy, do you know where I can find, uh..."

"TERRORIST!!!!!!!"

*clunk*

"Ow! What are you doing?!"

"GET BACK HERE, SON OF SATAN!!!"
*dials 911*
"HELLO, POLICE?! I'M CHASING A TERRORIST WHO TRIED TO ROB ME!"

they are purveyors of superstition, ignorance and idiocy - all relitions are fundamentally terrorist organizations - look at the history of their terrorist acts against one another - that's not terrorism???? Since when?

My area has a very large community of Greek immigrants and Greek Orthodox clerics aren't an uncommon site. In fact, there's a religious procession on Orthodox Good Friday which would probably have caused this guy to burst a gasket.

My first question

is whether the marine had served in combat and was experiencing post-traumatic stress or is he just plain crazy? Or, is he just hopelessly stupid?

I would bet there is a lot more to this story than what is printed here.

Luv,
Granny

It's certainly nice to know that we have people in our armed forces who are this bigoted and brain dead. Yep, certainly makes me feel safe. >eyes rolling<
I hope this nutjob is never deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. No doubt he'd go crazy and start firing on all the "terrorists" the moment he steps off the plane!
What do you want to bet that this Marine listens to Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck? I'm sure he probably does.
Frankly I hope they put "Gomer Pyle" away for a long, long time. And I hope the Priest sues him for pain and suffering. Of course I am waiting for sites like worldnetdaily to make a martyr out of Gomer. They'll probably say the Greek priest really was an Arab terrorist but the big bad liberal media lied about it just so they can persecute a "patriotic American".

I think that one of the oldest Greek Orthodox churches in North America in St. Augustine, FL so its not like the sight of a Greek Orthodox priest on the street is unprecedented in that state. Maybe he had long hair and a beard as a lot of Greek Orthodox priests do. But so did those guys from Jacksonville named Lynrd Skynrd. And Molly Hatchet too,

I know here in Klamath Falls, Or.
We were in Vancouver, B.C., having driven a baseball team there.
We were in a restaurant when a turbaned Sikh walked in. They're from India, by the way. This nitwit's remark was "now, there's a A-rab terrorist if I ever saw one", and he MEANT it.
Pathetic ignoramus, but, sadly, one of many in this area.

Jasen Bruce is an honorably discharged ex-Marine who apparently still thinks he's in uniform. He's an advocate of steroid and enhanced testosterone use.

It seems evident that his current behavior is far from honorable.

I suppose I can understand attacking Greek Orthodox priests, Mennonites and children dressed in Count Dracula Hallowe'en costumes. After all, these are not the sort of images normally associated with deeply American surroundings like McDonalds "restaurants," Wal-Marts, rural roadhouses and Army basic training camps.

Perhaps, however, there is a limit to the expression of aggression against all things alien to the toxic, nativist mind. I venture to hope that the defenders of bad country music and low-church Christianity will understand the error of their ways when they murder a likeness of the Catholic clergy from "Going My Way" or bring out their artillary to shoot down "The Flying Nun."

Although the Ku Klux Klan was never big on Catholics and Jews (never mind Muslims), and ignoring the fact that their bigotry is everywhere evident in the attitudes of the religious Republican right-wing "talk" radio every day, the sight of a latter-day Father Mulcahey beaten, lashed and hung from a sycamore tree might be enough to compel these louts to understand that they are the antithesis of whatever limited good remains in the American soul.

There is no excuse for all these soldiers running around this country or in the middle East. The war on terror is a bogus war. These soldiers, whose basic I-Q levels hover around average, that is 100, believe the brainwashing that is intrinsic to their becoming violent in order to fight for the State paid for by our taxes. Tell them there's an enemy and that's all they need to know, they'll go kill for the State.

These anachronistic stupid meaningless bloody wars that the United States pursues have to stop. Sooner or later they will stop, when the Republic has bankrupted Itself by fighting them. Until then stupid men with silly looking uniforms will kill clerics and anybody else who looks like an enemy.
