Bill O'Reilly Goes After Sesame Street: ‘We May Have To Ambush Oscar’

During an episode of Sesame Street that was originally broadcast two years ago, a character tells Oscar the Grouch, who happens to be reporting for "GNN" (Grouchy News Network), that she is switching her news viewing loyalties to "Pox News," adding, "Now there is a trashy news show."

Right winger Andrew Breitbart's "Big Hollywood" blog took on the Sesame Street menace last week proclaiming: "Add one more soldier to the Left's war on Fox News: Oscar the Grouch":

If Mom and Dad watch cable news, it's better than 50/50 they watch "POX News." So what gives? PBS -- a network partially funded with my tax dollars -- has the right to tell my kids that their parents watch "trashy" news? The message is clear, I can't even sit my kids in front of "Sesame Street" without having to worry about the Left attempting to undermine my authority.

Thursday night on Fox News, host Bill O'Reilly picked up on Big Hollywood's rant and couldn't resist defending his network against the smear merchants at Sesame Street. "Say it ain't so. Sesame Street trashing Fox News!" O'Reilly complained. After airing the segment in question, O'Reilly said wryly, "We may have to ambush Oscar." Watch it:

As Big Hollywood itself acknowledged, Fox News wasn't the only news organization or media personality Sesame Street spoofed. "Walter Cranky," "Dan Rather-Not," "Meredith Beware-a" and "Diane Spoiler," all made appearances on the show. And of course, Oscar's employer, the "Grouchy News Network."

Media Matters' Simon Maloy notes, "It looks like Andrew Breitbart's BigHollywood.com is looking to dethrone NewsBusters as the premiere source for asinine right-wing media criticism" by documenting "the absurd liberal bias in an episode of Sesame Street that aired two years ago. Just let that sink in for a moment…"

We wouldn't put it past O'Reilly hit-man Jesse Watters to be staking out Oscar's garbage can right now.

Digg!

Listen, whatever the "excuse," do not show us a "story" & then hand us blank pages. Blaming
Oscar for the disappearance is pretty damn funny, but totally Bogus. Tell us WHY you've removed this. Makes you guys become The Problem, not that scheming, lying, hatemonger O'Moron on FOX "News." Be up-front with us: what happened here? Very strange & off-putting. Shame on yuh.

and given the average group of Sesame street viewers is probably 4 years old I doubt they will be arguing with their parents about Pox news not being fit for 4 year olds - or maybe it is?????

But lets get real, Bill OReilly has of late become more of the centrist figures on Fox News. If we are using a comedic segment on Oscar the Grouch then the left is grasping at straws!

Public enemy #1 is still Hannity!

The next thing you know the Blight Wing will be attacking the Teletubbies. Oh wait ...

"Beware the purple one. The Reverend Jerry Falwell warns readers of the National Liberty Journal that Tinky Winky — a purse-carrying Teletubby — is homosexual and thus a bad role model for their children. The triangular antenna on the genderless lavender creature is cited as being a known homosexual symbol."

Ah, how ironic. The REAL-LIFE grouch of all grouches, Bill O'scar is peeved at Sesame Street.
Ha!

Hey, congratulations to Sesame Street, which is now 40 years old!
I was one of the first tots to ever see it. Glad to see it had staying power.

Grouch called it "Pox News". But, the left and the Admin. have been criticizing Fox as Republican propaganda. So, the fact that Sesame called them "news" should have taken them out of the line of fire. Fox is missing the point entirely, once again, and going off on a tangent.

First of all many of the posters are beginning to sound as paranoid as FOX commentators

Secondly at what point do mental health professionals start weighing in on the paranoia that exist at FOX. I mean don't they feel if people don't like their message they should change channels? But if other networks make fun of them it undermines the authority of a talk show host? Are you kidding me? What authority, didn't I used to see O'Really on some morning show out of Jersey? What is he an authority on anyway? Oh that's right he knows how to make a woman feel good.....LOL. His real forte is obviously comedy. Too bad he doesn't appreciate it in others.

Isn't it ironic that a right-wing puppet is now attacking actual puppets?
Is nothing sacred?
How long before some wing-nut is up on a rooftop with a rifle shooting up Toys R Us in the name of God and Country? Yikes.
His defense will claim it was the devil's arm up his backside that made him do it.

and insecure Andrew Breitbarts and Bill O'Reilly must be to take offense in a puppet. Sesame Street has taken spins and pot shots at all the news shows. "Attempting to undermine my authority". How controlling are these petty twits?. "I have absolute power, Ah yes". What sad little men.

That's when the evil real estate tycoon Ronald Grump (played by Joe Pesci) threatened to buy Sesame Street and replace it with condos until his nefarious plan was foiled by Oscar. It was on the Sesame Street All-Star 25th Birthday: Stars and Street Forever!. I don't see anyone standing up for The Donald after the fact.

Maybe if there was no such thing as Fux News to lampoon, it would have been "MessyNBC".

What's great is that Anderson Cooper has done some guest reporting for Oscar on the Grouch News Network. (I watch it several times a week with my little one. S.S. turns 40 right when I turn 40 - neat!)
