When Congress finally passes health-care legislation, the result will be a plan derived from five separate proposals from five Congressional committees. All but one of those committees -- the Senate Finance Committee -- have finalized their proposals, and all but one of those bills -- you guessed it, the one from the Finance Committee -- contain a public health-insurance plan.

Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus is a darling of the health and insurance industries, having received more than $4 million in campaign contributions from health and insurance interests over the course of his Senate career. According to a Research 2000 poll commissioned by the Daily Kos, 78 percent of Montana Democrats favor a public option and, among all Montanans, more favor it than oppose it (47 percent in favor; 43 percent opposed).

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America have produced this ad targeting Baucus in his home state, and featuring the insurance nightmare of one of his own constituents. The groups are currently seeking donations to keep the ad on the air in Montana.
