Joe the Plumber on Pelosi: I Would "Beat the Livin' Tar" Out of Her

At a conference sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, Joe the Plumber entered softly before taking out his big pipe wrench. Americans for Prosperity is one of the major players in the anti-health-care reform "tea party" movement.

As the opening speaker at AFP's August 15 RightOnline conference plenary, Samuel "Joe" Wurzelbacher (who took on the moniker "Joe the Plumber" during the 2008 presidential campaign) began his brief speech by advising his audience to "refrain a little bit" when inclined to "take a shot at the left." But by the time he wrapped up, Wurzelbacher had suggested that the speaker of the House deserved a whoppin', and implied that parents should kick their kids in order to get them to do well.

Wurzelbacher complained that Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in an op-ed co-authored with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, called the threatening tactics used in town-hall meetings "un-American":

These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted "Just say no!" drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion...Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.

"For Pelosi to write about us bein' un-American and disprespectful--," Wurzelbacher said, "I'll tell ya what, I respect nobody who lies to me and [humiliates] me and takes my money and puts my children in debt -- they want me to be respectful toward them? Please!"

The crowd roared.

"You know, I'm not the most civilized person," Wurzelbacher continued. "Those kind of people, I usually took behind the woodshed and just beat the livin' tar out of 'em."

The crowd went wild.

After the session concluded, I caught up with Wurzelbacher, who was hawking his book, Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream, in the hallway. What did he have to say about the threats of violence that have accompanied the right's campaign to disrupt town halls -- you know, like the guy who showed up last week with a gun strapped to his leg outside the New Hampshire high school where President Obama was scheduled to address a health-care town hall?

"First of all, let me say that I don't advocate the violence," Wurzelbacher said. "However, that bein' said, Congress has been lyin' to us for years. They take advantage of us, they manipulate us, and years ago, people like that would have been taken behind the woodshed and slapped upside the head a couple times."

"I'm not tellin' people to go out and do that," he continued," and I don't advocate that if we can make our point through facts"

That's a pretty big "if", given the fact-challenged disinformation campaign waged about health-care reform by groups like Americans for Prosperity.

"We don't have to go out and slander," Wurzelbacher said. "We don't have to go out and take up arms, or anything like that, but let the facts speak for themselves. A lot of times, from what I'm hearing, you know, for the most part, we're just being told we're an angry mob, it's right-wing zealots. It's the American people, and they've finally gotten tired of being taken advantage of, and they're standing up."

Hanging your congressman in effigy? That's just "standing up," apparently.

Oh, and Joe's parenting advice? After mentioning that his son is captain of his school football team, Wurzelbacher said, "Teachers do their job, and my size twelves do their job."

The crowd signaled its approval.

Here's the audio of my follow-up interview with Joe the Plumber.

that Joe the Plumber and his many comrades-in-arms have completely lost the ability or capacity to make use of those newer portions of the evolving brain and are incorrigibly reliant on that old "reptilic" portion still remaining and enduring as we go trudging forward.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the lifelong and efficient management and training in all these things that is preferred by some sections of our population when dealing with social relations.

I am simultaneously encouraged and discouraged by the fact that this genius is a de-facto leader of the Republican Party.

Every time these new "leaders" like Joe and Sarah Palin get on TV and open their pie holes, part of me rejoices at every strained, jumbled mess of quasi-thought that spills forth, further illuminating their ignorance and lack of sophistication.

But then comes the discouraging thought... those idiotic words are falling like golden rays of pure knowledge on the ears of millions and millions of angry, knuckle-dragging apes that would like nothing more than to find a nice scapegoat to take behind the woodshed.

...because he is listening to Republican members of Congress and they are lying to him. Maybe he should go take Boehner behind that woodshed.

It is really too bad that the media doesn't latch on to average progressive/liberal Americans to elevate to Joe the Plumber status. Heck we don't even get our thinkers on talking shows very often, usually moderate/corporatist Dems get the platform at their expense.

Early on in the campaign when this nut first came on the scene, as the story goes he had been married twice and divorced by each of the women because he beat them. The story was short lived but ther's alot we don't know about Joe. For now, I would arrest him for threatening the "Speaker of The House". Can't we have just a little class? ANNA

but it should be done verbally not physically.

I agree with Joes sentiment, she is in my opinion the worst kind of rent seeking hypocrite. A true San Fransisco, limousine liberal, a spoiled daddy's girl.

She accuses the opposition to her Health plan as Nazis at the same time she is horrified when Limbaugh does the same. Shame on her!

If Joe had the ability to pay attention, he'd recognize that he just referred to the past eight year rule of the Republican party........... instead, he offers himself up as a very willing stooge.

Maybe it's time for Joe to take HIMSELF behind the woodshed. If only he would stay there.............

where Joe jumps out of the audience and gives Tom Delay the beat down of his life. As Joe says congress has been lying to us for years. And I guess his next appearance with John McCain will be on the WWE. When Joe body slams that old geezer for supporting socialized programs like medicare we'll see who is cheering him on. And Joe needs to beat his own ass for the unemployment insurance checks he cashed. Love the do as I say, not as I do mentality of the Right. But, I won't actually be acquiesing to it anytime soon.

Americans for Prosperity hired Joe the Plumber for a pubic appearance... raw meat for the rabid lunatic fringe. Americans for Prosperity created a group called Patients United Now, the group that is fighting harder than anyone else to stop the public option in the healthcare reform debate. This is what they say on their website:

The "Public Option" Is a Step Toward Total Government Control

The "Public Option" is just the first step on the path to government-run health care. Some politicians openly admit that a single, government-only, payer system is their end game. Others claim that the "Public Option" is not government-run health care.

No matter what the politicians say, government will use its power to manipulate the rules and force people into its plan. The Lewin Group recently published a study showing just how many people would lose their private insurance with a government option. The number reached as high as 119 million Americans."

They keep citing The Lewin Group for their statistics. The Lewin Group is part of Ingenix, which is owned by United Healthcare Group, the insurance behemoth that has been buying up insurance companies left and right, expanding its reach into just about every segment of the health-insurance market. Its flagship, UnitedHealthcare, helps make it the largest health insurer in the country. It’s a safe bet that United is not too keen on a public plan that might shrink its business. So, IN NO WAY IS THE INFORMATION BEING DISSEMINATED BY THE LEWIN GROUP TO BE TRUSTED!

This is just more incestuous circle-jerking from the monied interests in the Insurance Industry, and the right-wing wacko politicians (both Republic and Blue Dog Democrats) who are helping them.

Follow the money.

Joe the Plumber is irrelevant.

What's with hanging slimeball politicians in effigy?

What's wrong with bearing arms in accordance with New Hampshire state law?

Why doesn't a congressman deserve to have the tar beat out of him?

I'm an old-fashioned sexist. We called it chivalry back then, but now it's called sexism. I would never beat Pelosi or any other woman, but these modern feminists demand equality, so if it's morally justified to waterboard Dick Cheney or carpetbomb the Clintons (and it is), why can't we beat the tar out of Pelosi? She's one of the most disgusting liars and unrepentant criminals walking the streets of America. But when she walks the streets, it's behind an army of armed bodyguards. You see, she likes guns on her side, but not on our side.

During the dark years of Bush/Cheney, my favorite network was MSNBC, and not just because my man Buchanan is on it. I like dissent. I like to see the government criticized. During the years 2001-2009, Fox News was government propaganda and I HATED those smug motherfuckers! Glenn Beck SICKENED me and no one disgusted me more than Sean Hannity.

Now I kind of like those guys. They're actually criticizing the president and congress, and often (not always) in an intelligent way. Over at MSNBC, Queef Olberman and his small group of pals (notice how he can't find anyone new to ever appear on his program?) are all lined up to give the president a blowjob and talk about how great of a job the Pelosi congress is doing. CNN and the networks aren't much better. Rupert Murdoch is now the one and ONLY voice of opposition in this country!

So three cheers to Sam the unemployed plumber for telling it like it is!

And three cheers to the gun nuts for making the politicians remember that we CAN fight back!

If every member of congress were hanged tomorrow, the only real loss would be Ron Paul. That's acceptable collateral damage.

... has me all nostalgic for those good old days. When prayer was in schools. When violence was used before reason. When white, christian, patriarchal, xenophobic, racist, sexist pigs (like Sam, the unemployed, unlicensed plumber) were in charge.

You know what else this retard leaves out about life, "back in the day"?

90% TAX RATES ON THE RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, shit-wiper-upper-Joe-the-Plumber, back in your good old days of yesteryear when it was "us versus them," and America was gonna make the world its bitch, the people in charge still saw fit to tax the super rich at a rate of about 90%. Good ol' grandpa Ike in the white house even warned us before he left office about things like this, and the republican party has actually become the very thing Eisenhower warned against.

WHY is it that conservatives, like Joe here, never bother to attach THAT little doozy to their train of thought about the marvelous good-ol'-days of the 1950's?

Why is that this guy gets more press after the election than John McCain, the man who made him a national figure? In fact, based solely upon his instant legacy of irrelevance, why does he get any press at all? He and Palin are poster children for being brain dead and walking around and yet they get more media attention than the war in Iraq. What is wrong with us?

Joe said : "I'll tell ya what, I respect nobody who lies to me and [humiliates] me and takes my money and puts my children in debt.

Ah, so you must REALLY hate Bush II, who lied to American's every chance he could i.e. just where is that 750 billion Bush called his "Stimulus Package?" Hey Joe, you don't have a clue where it went, or to whom, and after lying you (all American's) into two wars which very well may "last until your dead," after which your kids names will be on that 10 trillion dollar I.O.U to Chinese. Bush lowered taxes on the richest 1% of Americans who account for 70% of all profit made in this country Joe. Do you feel huge corporations need your physical support ? Just what has Big Pharma done for your lately ?

Think about it ,just what did Bush do that "didn't" humiliate you Joe ? Are you such a wimp you have to threaten women to feed that macho ego ? Or, are you just a thin skinned hypocrite ?
Ok so let me try to understand this, the best plan you, a Republican, can come up with to help our country after your president Bush, put the U.S. into a very deep hole, is to threaten to beat up women ?
Just tell me this Mr. Super-hero, just what type of person threatens to beat up people who are more accomplished and far more intelligent than themselves ? I believe they are either jealous or acting just damn stupidly.
When you can't beat them with your mind do you beat them with your fists ? With that chip on your shoulder you would have made great cannon fodder.

Answer this if you know, were we better off at the end of Clinton's presidency or after Bush II's ? If 2 wars and trillions in debt is your idea of a successful administration Joe, I clearly see why your unlicensed, and not even a journey-man plumber at that. Your a sore loser Joe, with a brilliant
plan to pick fights with women.. Be careful there Mr. I.Q. as there are many women who will kick your ass until your single functioning brain cell is on the ground right next to your teeth(if you still have any)out
behind that shed.
I suggest you get yourself good medical insurance and a big pair of sunglasses, as it's obvious your stupid enough to continue to pick fights with women, hey News Flash!!! Your "crusin for a bruisin," and because you make inappropriate choices as who to pick on, your going to get it.
Did your threat impress those children of yours ? Do you have a daughter? You'd better never end up in a wheel-chair there cowboy, because with your deep seated hatred of women, she will push your ass of the nearest cliff, and not even bat an eye.

Roberoo

It is sad that the press, including the liberal/progressive press, pays any attention to this moron.

HE IS YESTERDAY'S NEWS.

I can't believe that someone in 2009 would get up at a podium and tell people that the way to raise your child is to physically abuse them.

And then all those people cheer about it.

"Duh, har har, huh huh!!"

I swear, it's absolutely incredible to me. This is 2009, people, we know with absolute certainty that this is not an acceptable way to treat children.

Members of the Senate on the other hand, well... there are some that I certainly would like to take behind the shed myself.

I read in many sites reports of right winger types /republicans advocating violence and harm , even death to people advocating ideas which they do not agree with.
So is this where America is at?
Ready to kill the opposition if need be ? They evidently don't want a democracy in which the minority are tolerated , they don't even agree with the basic democratic ideal that the majority should rule. Its a totalitarian mindset where thuggery should rule , might is right and both very right and quite wrong it appears to be.
