You're the land of happy stoners, gay marriage, shopping for sex, abortion, and death with dignity…but worst of all, you are "militantly secular". Don't worry, though — while Fox News treats you as an object of horrible fascination, I think I love you.

Digg!

Religion as toxic

The Dutch "see religion as toxic." Gee, I wonder why that would be? Perhaps because it is? Religion has been the single greatest detriment to humankind since its inception. How many MILLIONS of people have died throughout history because of "religion?"

I have seriously considered moving to the Netherlands because they don't allow religion to infuse public policy like we do here in the U.S. I don't mind someone embracing whatever religious beliefs they wish, but when they start trying to impose those believes on me, especially through the rule of law, then I've got some major issues with that.

...where no one uses drugs, prostitution is unheard of, as is suicide, and christianity has been nothing but a boon to happiness, freedom, and the curing of all those social ills we used to have.

and have never felt more "at home." People there were very nice. The city is beautiful. I love the canals. Very, very good public transportation. Great food. Great music. And a more diverse city I've never seen.

There were two amazing Coffee Houses I found. One was named "No Problem!" which made me laugh! The other was a Coffee House (can't recall the name) that was an homage to Frank Zappa -- playing Zappa music, photos of Zappa on the walls -- which I thought was especially ironic since Frank didn't smoke pot. He didn't like drugs at all.

If given an option of where I would live, I would have no qualms about moving there. Especially knowing Faux Noose hates it! LOL Couldn't ask for a better "stamp of approval!"

Anyone else see this as insufferably rude?

Anyone else see this as just... wow... beyond rude?

Fox "news" actually sent reporters to Holland for the sole purpose of saying, "How dare you not believe in our god? How dare you be tolerant of others?!"

In less than three minutes, Fox successfully covered almost every single social issue that they know their conservative watchers are going to find offensive. Next thing you know, conservatives who watched that little clip are going to be clamoring for us to invade. "Sweet baby Jebus, we've gots tuh liburrate them heathens from their own self-imposed road to hell!"

So funny. They really truly have no idea what they're doing. I don't know about anyone else, but the Netherlands sounds like the hip place to be.

P.S. YES, religion IS a disease. As mentioned in other comments, who cares if you're religious? You CAN be religious if you wish. The problem starts when you start trying to coerce others into your beliefs through rule of law.

Fox and the Netherlands actually have a lot in common: a visceral dislike of Islam. For all its tolerance and liberalism, Holland is having quite a difficult time with some of its Muslim citizens. Dutch far-right politicians have been saying things about Islam for years that would bring big smiles to the faces of the likes of Bill O'Reilly. They could be allies on this issue. But at least they're consistent in Holland: they don't like religion, period. Fox is just a bunch of hypocrites; religious extremism is fine with them, as long as its the right kind.
