At a news conference on the lawn of her Wasilla home yesterday morning, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin announced that she'll give up her post in the next few weeks. A day later, Palin’s abrupt and confounding move has left political analysts and the media scrambling for an explanation.

Many observers expected Palin to say that she was not seeking re-election – a prediction driven by speculation that the Governor is preparing for a Presidential bid in 2012.

But Palin's shocking announcement seems to belie plans for a Presidential run. As Josh Marshall points out at TPM, "Generally, when you run for election to a high office it's understood that you'll stick around to do the job."

Some observers have nevertheless toyed with the idea that Palin is quitting to free up time to campaign. Conservartive columnist Bill Kristol wrote in the Weekly Standard blog:

If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It's an enormous gamble - but it could be a shrewd one.

After all, she's freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues - and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska.

But many Presidential hopefuls finish up their time in office. And Palin's rambling statement did little to lay the groundwork for a future campaign: the Alaska Governor vaguely stated that she would do more good "outside government" and issued some Nixonian grumblings about the press, according to a reporter at the scene to whom Palin allegedly said: "You are naive if you don't see a full-court press on the national level, picking apart a good point guard."

(Palin did, however, also offer some suspiciously campaigny-sounding rhetoric: "I'm not wired to operate under the same old politics as usual.")

Many analysts also point out that Palin’s resignation highlights her main weakness in a potential Presidential run — that many conservative elites see her as unprepared to serve for National Office.

John Weaver, a former strategist for the McCain campaign said “If this is her launching pad for 2012, it's a curious move. Policy is politics, and she has no real accomplishments as governor" according to the AP.

With little information coming from the Palin camp following the announcement, observers speculate that Palin’s bizarre decision and rushed press conference point to a brewing scandal.

(If it turns out Palin is fleeing office in the face of some bombshell revelation scandalous enough to kill any chances she might have in 2012, we would be averaging the loss of one GOP Presidential hopeful per week over the past month.)

Even in the absence of a Mark Sanford-style drama, Palin may be resigning to escape ongoing ethics inquires. The state of Alaska has spent nearly $300,000 investigating ethics complaints against the Governor. Palin has said that contesting the complaints has cost her family $500,000.

The widely publicized inquiry into Palin’s firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan after he refused to can the state trooper involved in a divorce with Palin’s sister is the most prominent of over a dozen investigations.

Others include allegations that Palin used the governor's office for personal gain by receiving improper gifts, and that she used state time and resources for partisan political purposes.

(The AP has the full list here)

Max Blumenthal, writing for the Daily Beast, points to Todd and Sarah Palin’s suspicious ties to Spenard Building Supplies (SBS), an Alaskan contractor. Blumenthal writes that the Feds may be launching an investigation into whether Palin and her husband helped bring lucrative contracts to the company in exchange for gifts:

Though Todd Palin told Fox News he built his Lake Lucille home with the help of a few "buddies," according to Barrett’s report, public records revealed that SBS supplied the materials for the house. While serving as mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin blocked an initiative that would have required the public filing of building permits—thus momentarily preventing the revelation of such suspicious information.

Just months before Palin left city hall to campaign for governor, she awarded a contract to SBS to help build the $13 million Wasilla Sports Complex. The most expensive building project in Wasilla history, the complex cost the city an addition $1.3 million in legal fees and threw it into severe long-term debt. For SBS, however, the bloated and bungled project was a cash cow.

Whatever facts may emerge, Palin’s latest bewildering move has ensured that she will command the public spotlight for a while to come.

Here’s a video and a full transcript of the press conference.

People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.

I want Alaskans to grasp what can be in store for our state. We were purchased as a territory because a member of President Abe Lincoln's cabinet, William Seward, providentially saw in this great land, vast riches, beauty, strategic placement on the globe, and opportunity. He boldly looked "North to the Future". But he endured such ridicule and mocking for his vision for Alaska, remember the adversaries scoffed, calling this "Seward's Folly". Seward withstood such disdain as he chose the uncomfortable, unconventional, but RIGHT path to secure Alaska, so Alaska could help secure the United States.

Alaska’s mission – to contribute to America. We’re strategic IN the world as the air crossroads OF the world, as a gatekeeper of the continent. Bold visionaries knew this - Alaska would be part of America's great destiny.

Our destiny to be reached by responsibly developing our natural resources. This land, blessed with clean air, water, wildlife, minerals, AND oil and gas. It's energy! God gave us energy.

So to serve the state is a humbling responsibility, because I know in my soul that Alaska is of such import, for America’s security, in our very volatile world. And you know me by now, I promised even four years ago to show MY independence… no more conventional “politics as usual”.

And we are doing well! My administration's accomplishments speak for themselves. We work tirelessly for Alaskans.

We aggressively and responsibly develop our resources because they were created to be used to better our world... to HELP people... and we protect the environment and Alaskans (the resource owners) foremost with our policies.

Here’s some of the things we’ve done:

We created a petroleum integrity office to oversee safe development. We held the line FOR Alaskans on Point Thomson – and finally for the first time in decades – they’re drilling for oil and gas.

We have AGIA, the gasline project – a massive bi-partisan victory (the vote was 58 to 1!) – also succeeding as intended - protecting Alaskans as our clean natural gas will flow to energize us, and America, through a competitive, pro-private sector project. This is the largest private sector energy project, ever. THIS is energy independence.

And ACES – another bipartisan effort – is working as intended and industry is publicly acknowledging its success. Our new oil and gas “clear and equitable formula” is so Alaskans will no longer be taken advantage of. ACES incentivizes NEW exploration and development and JOBS that were previously not going to happen with a monopolized North Slope oil basin.

We cleaned up previously accepted unethical actions; we ushered in bi-partisan Ethics Reform.

We also slowed the rate of government growth, we worked with the Legislature to save billions of dollars for the future, and I made no lobbyist friends with my hundreds of millions of dollars in budget vetoes... but living beyond our means today is irresponsible for tomorrow.

We took government out of the dairy business and put it back into private-sector hands – where it should be.

We provided unprecedented support for education initiatives, and with the right leadership, finally filled long-vacant public safety positions. We built a sub-Cabinet on Climate Change and took heat from Outside special interests for our biologically-sound wildlife management for abundance.

We broke ground on the new prison.

And we made common sense conservative choices to eliminate personal luxuries like the jet, the chef, the junkets... the entourage.

And the Lt. Governor and I said "no" to our pay raises. So much success in this first term – and with this success I am proud to take credit... for hiring the right people! Our goal was to achieve a gasline project, more fair oil and gas valuation, and ethics reform in four years. We did it in two. It’s because of the people… good public servants surrounding the Governor's office, with servants' hearts and astounding work ethic... THEY are Alaska's success!

We are doing well! I wish you'd hear MORE from the media of your state's progress and how we tackle Outside interests - daily - SPECIAL interests that would stymie our state. Even those debt-ridden stimulus dollars that would force the heavy hand of federal government into our communities with an “all-knowing attitude” – I have taken the slings and arrows with that unpopular move to veto because I know being right is better than being popular. Some of those dollars would harm Alaska and harm America – I resisted those dollars because of the obscene national debt we’re forcing our children to pay, because of today’s Big Government spending; it’s immoral and doesn’t even make economic sense!

Another accomplishment – our Law Department protected states’ rights – TWO huge U.S. Supreme Court reversals came down against that liberal Ninth Circuit, deciding in OUR state’s favor over the last two weeks. We’re protectors of our Constitution – federalists protect states’ rights as mandated in 10th amendment.

But you don’t hear much of the good stuff in the press anymore, do you?

Some say things changed for me on August 29th last year – the day John McCain tapped me to be his running-mate – I say others changed.

Let me speak to that for a minute.

Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I've been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations – such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters’ questions.

Every one – all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won! But it hasn't been cheap - the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to “opposition research” – that’s money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers – or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the “politics of personal destruction” … Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn’t cost them a dime so they’re not going to stop draining public resources – spending other peoples’ money in their game.

It’s pretty insane – my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now. I know I promised no more “politics as usual,” but THIS isn’t what anyone had in mind for ALASKA.

If I have learned one thing: LIFE is about choices!

And one chooses how to react to circumstances. You can choose to engage in things that tear down, or build up. I choose to work very hard on a path for fruitfulness and productivity. I choose NOT to tear down and waste precious time; but to build UP this state and our country, and her industrious, generous, patriotic, free people!

Life is too short to compromise time and resources... it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and “go with the flow”.

Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".

No. Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time... to BUILD UP.

And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.

I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska.

But I won’t do it from the Governor’s desk.

I've never believed that I, nor anyone else, needs a title to do this - to make a difference... to HELP people. So I choose, for my State and my family, more "freedom" to progress, all the way around... so that Alaska may progress... I will not seek re-election as Governor.

And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn’t run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and “milk it”. I’m not putting Alaska through that – I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? That’s not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old “politics as usual.” I promised that four years ago – and I meant it.

It’s not what is best for Alaska.

I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is unconventional and not so comfortable.

With this announcement that I am not seeking re-election… I’ve determined it’s best to transfer the authority of governor to Lieutenant Governor Parnell; and I am willing to do so, so that this administration – with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future – can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success.

My choice is to take a stand and effect change – not hit our heads against the wall and watch valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars, go down the drain in this new environment. Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities – and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans.

Let me go back to a comfortable analogy for me – sports… basketball. I use it because you’re naïve if you don’t see the national full-court press picking away right now: A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket… and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can WIN. And I’m doing that – keeping our eye on the ball that represents sound priorities – smaller government, energy independence, national security, freedom! And I know when it’s time to pass the ball – for victory.

I have given my reasons candidly and truthfully… and my last day won’t be for another few weeks so the transition will be very smooth. In fact, we will look to swear Sean in – in Fairbanks at the conclusion of our Governor’s picnics.

I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you TRUST me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usual”.

Some Alaskans don’t mind wasting public dollars and state time. I do. I cannot stand here as your Governor and allow millions upon millions of our dollars go to waste just so I can hold the title of Governor. And my children won’t allow it either. ? Some will question the timing. ? Let’s just say, this decision has been in the works for awhile…

In fact, this decision comes after much consideration, and finally polling the most important people in my life - my children (where the count was unanimous... well, in response to asking: "Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children's future from OUTSIDE the Governor's office?" It was four "yes's" and one "hell yeah!" The "hell yeah" sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that... I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently.) Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we ALL could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities RIGHT – that time is precious... the world needs more "Trigs", not fewer.

My decision was also fortified during this most recent trip to Kosovo and Landstuhl, to visit our wounded soldiers overseas, those who sacrifice themselves in war for OUR freedom and security… we can ALL learn from our selfless Troops… they’re bold, they don’t give up, they take a stand and know that LIFE is short so they choose to NOT waste time. They choose to be productive and to serve something greater than SELF... and to build up their families, their states, our country. These Troops and their important missions – those are truly the worthy causes in this world and should be the public priority with time and resources and NOT this local / superficial wasteful political bloodsport.

May we ALL learn from them!

*((Gotta put First Things First))*

First things first: as Governor, I love my job and I love Alaska. It hurts to make this choice but I am doing what’s best for Alaska. I’ve explained why… though I think of the saying on my parents’ refrigerator that says “Don’t explain: your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe you anyway.”

But I have given my reasons… no more “politics as usual” and I am taking my fight for what’s right – for Alaska – in a new direction.

Now, despite this, I don’t want any Alaskan dissuaded from entering politics after seeing this REAL “climate change” that began in August… no, we NEED hardworking, average Americans fighting for what’s right! And I will support you because we need YOU and YOU can effect change, and I can too on the outside.

We need those who will respect our Constitution where government’s supposed to serve from the BOTTOM UP, not move toward this TOP DOWN big government take-over… but rather, will be protectors of individual rights - who also have enough common sense to acknowledge when conditions have drastically changed and are willing to call an audible and pass the ball when it’s time so the team can win! And that is what I’m doing!

Remember Alaska… America is now, more than ever, looking North to the Future. It'll be good. So God bless you, and from me and my family - to ALL Alaska - you have my heart.

And we will be in the capable hands of our Lieutenant Governor, Sean Parnell. And Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume the role of Lieutenant Governor. And it is my promise to you that I will always be standing by, ready to assist. We have a good, positive agenda for Alaska.

In the words of General MacArthur said, “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

I think there is something fishy going on in Palin's life. Perhaps Todd has done something that can be bad for her image, or one of her kids has done another dumb thing. It may just be that she has realized that she has neither the intelligence or wide knowledge to be either governor of a state or president of the US.
Let us all hope that she fades back into the wallpaper.

Because resigning like this is political suicide. She would easily be labeled a "quitter."

She was hardly able to take a breath during her press conference. She seemed very nervous and shaken.

I think she's about to be hit with a horrible scandal, and chose to pre-emptively quit.

It makes no sense. She has been nothing but a scrappy fighter no matter what other scandal hit her in the past, including during her campaign as VP. She fought back with her daughter's pregnancy. She fought back about her scandals with the State of Alaska paying for her children's travel costs. She fought back over the clothes and hair dresser the RNC paid for during her campaign. She fought back as recently as over the David Letterman kerfuffle. She isn't known to sit quiet and keep her mouth shut.

So... it has to be something far worse than what has already gone before.

She probably will pop up on Faux Noose with her own program. She would fit right in perfectly.

Pure Political Suicide

Wow, this is unexpected. I figured she wasn’t going to run for re-election, but she can’t finish her first term?! That is political suicide. She is going to be eaten alive by her fellow Republicans on this and not even make it out of the primaries. “How do you expect to lead America when you can’t even serve a full term as governor of Alaska?” And no amount of girlish winking and Can-I-Call-Ya-Joe?’ing can get her out of that.

Only the biggest party hacks are going to attempt to defend this insanity. She’s an even bigger joke of a politician than I thought. And that’s saying something!

lazy, like bush..... attracted to shiny objects, like bush....... the capacity to maul the english language, like bush.

She wasn't in politics for the love of her (alaska) country, she was in it for her ego and the connections to power and money.
She probably figures that books and teevee will make her MORE famous than being POTUS, so why invest all that hard work to achieve her lifelong goal.
She is a vapid little shit, and unfortunately, will not be rid of her anytime soon.

On the other hand....... GOD I HOPE TODD AND LEVI GOT CAUGHT DOING THE NASTY !

Last November 8 I wrote here:

"Alaskan approval ratings for Palin have taken a nose-dive to a still-strong 68%, down from some 90%+/- prior to her campaigning. I am completely convinced that her popularity was fueled by a sense in Alaska that "nobody cares what we do up here" and they just as well should "have fun with our politics as be too serious" about who sits in office, and "might as well have someone to look at". Once on stage with real thinkers, real-world politics, and real government servants, she shriveled and blew away like a dried flower, and it will be clearer to a larger and larger swath of Alaskans that they should not play with world fire. She also exposed the horrific reality-deficit and reckless-endangerment presented by the fanatical religious-right, and galvanized moderates into action against it. My bets are that she NOW will be taken seriously and that she loses her very next race to a serious government servant, (that is, if Alaska can get Diebold out of running their misunder-the-table elections)."

Contrary to speculation otherwise, Palin's pure ineptitude in administering public office is the real reason she's getting out. Note in the video how she says she's "handing authority over... so that with this administration...blah-blah-blah... with its great legislative... future... can continue without interruption..." In other words, She now admits she's standing in the way of administration and legislative success!!!

... the really Out part is the best part!

There's no mystery to Sarah Palin's decision. She is merely advancing in a nutter direction.

As Grand Poobah of the Alaska Independent Militia Legions (AIMLess), Palin will be in prime position to swoop down upon Anchorage with an army of snowmobiling NRA fanatics and take over complete control of the bankrupt state government... which she left behind.

All 685,000 Alaska residents will be elated. Captain Sig will shoot Roman candles off the bow of the Northwestern.

Reached her level of incompetence & big scandal to break

Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
A well known business theory is how people will rise up in position to reaching their level of incompentence. Truly Gov. Palin reached that in her VP run last year. The scandals as to her, her family, Sen. Stevens and others as well how she handled them, her general incompenance, her narrow and extreme views as well as awful personal choices exposed in last year's VP campaign and since then, has ruined the political status of Gov. Palin.
I agree with others that a big scandal is about to break involving her. Note her comments as to her staff under continuing stress from alleged scandals involving her (i.e.: alleged improper use of State monies for compensation for travel/per deims). Perhaps she is under investigation and evidence being presented to a Grand Jury in Alaska or a Federal one and is expecting an inditement. Let us not forget the pipeline deals she is supporting with their opportunity for bribery and corruption. Perhaps the date of resignation coordinates with the end of that Grand Jury.
Still, at least with her resignation she is a bit more honorable than Gov. Sanford.

it could've been the radio or TV; it was definitely last night, though. Anyway, the story was that there was apparently a LOT more communication between that Alaska secessionist party and Gov. Palin than we'd been led to believe. Existence of loads of e-mails was mentioned. I woke up expecting to hear/read some follow-up, but there seems to be none.

She always claimed to be a Conservative and hated big government. Palin will put it into practice by becoming a Capitalist making millions on speaking engagements. Now that she is a private citizen there are no obligations to the people of Alaska, She can even become a standup comedian to get extra work.

Sarah loves power of any sort, adores the limelight public office offers at whatever cost. No way would she give that up ESPECIALLY if she plans a run in 2012 Ahhhhh....these are good times ;-) More hillarious every day & I'm loving it!

Silly little bubblehead, shouldn't have unleashed the aerial attacks on the wolves. Cunning, intelligent, ruthless animals with long memories that hunt in packs. And now they smell blood, Sarah. Goodbye Sarah.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfy, Rove, Feith and the rest of the nasty torturing slime walk away scot free, while the vultures rip the beauty queen's carcass to bloody shreds for the cameras.

And how will the zombie fascist Xtians respond to the public evisceration of their standard bearer?

I love the idiots like Ron Christi and Tony Blakely who are trying fervently to spin this resignation as a 'brilliant' political move.
Not only do Right wing pundits sell their souls to the Devil- they obviously throw their own self respect in as a 2 for 1 deal.
Come on Boys- If she quits a measely job as Gov of a state which has more Caribou than people, she'll never be allowed to be the Repug Nominee, not to mention President.
Funnier yet was Blakely's claim a Friday media release on a Holiday weekend would give her the whole weekend to be the 'Talk of the Town'- everyones out skiiing and BBQ'ing_ it's called a Media DUMP, Tony!!
Bill Press called Ron "Delusional"- I thought that was a given, a Requirement to be a member of the Repug party. Actually 'delusional' is only part of the pre requistes- schizophrenic is the main criteria. How do they keep up with which way to spin in this party.
Granted it could be she is jealous over Rush being called the Party leader and figures the best way to be the Repug nomiee in '12 is to get a job at FOX, but then her greed is only exceed by her ego. So I am laying my bet down on a HUGE scandal with criminal implications.
Bill Kristol and Rush can than have fanatsies about her as a immate in a all Womens Prison.

Palin is not out yet. Out of the Governor's seat, yes. But, if you read the statement very closely, she seems to say that she will be fighting for what she believes in without public office. (because she has to be committed to ethics and the law).
I wouldn't be surprised if this whack job becomes the female Glenn Beck, Hannity, O'Lielly and Dobbs all rolled up in her perky little package. She will probably put Ann Coulter to shame. Palin got ahold of the spotlight and became addicted. She will always look for a camera/microphone. Resigning the Governorship gives her more freedom to be even more controversial.
And I wouldn't rule out a run for the White House, either. In her mind, she is justified and all of her problems are someone else's fault.
Also, if you are into reading the Alaskan blogs, there are rumors to the fact that she is being investigated by the I.R.S./F.B.I. for the building of her home and the Sports Complex she had built in Wasilla. There seems to be a big connection between the two. But of course, Sarah will try to lie her way out of that one, too.
Bizarre!

I'm sure that there is a logical explanation for what Governor Palin is doing, just like every other move throughout her career....

I'm just kidding.

Is this part of her plan to get the nomination from her party on 2012? I'm sure it is. Could it possibly be that there are even more charges of abuses of office on the horizon and that she is trying to ward them off by resigning? Could be.

Whatever the case, Sarah Palin is the gift that just keeps giving and giving. For someone like me, who gets undefinable joy from watching the utter implosion of that tran wreck of a party, this is to good to be true.

what I was told while she was campaigning? A friend received certain photographs of a woman suspected of being Sarah Palin.I was given descriptions of these photos. Do not feel right describing what was described to me even if they were her. They were sent to Republican headquarters and were rejected. Could they be surfacing now? If so, and time will tell, could be reason for stepping down.
If not, I don't wish to pass on information I clearly was not totally privy to. Believe we all have a right to a PRIVATE life. I only suggest by my experience, that IF these said photos were her, it would be reason to step down. If not, we await the real reason.Everyone has skeletons in their closet, some a few bones other the entire thing. Personally, we have no right invading people's private lives. It was a no no in FDR'S time. Wish we went back to that time when reporters had that respect. Most men are like Jimmy Carter anyway, do not cheat but surely lust in heart for another from time to time. No one is without fault.Women included. For me, Palin is a beautiful woman, strong, ambitious, smart, but....all have a past and faults. Don't take another's inventory. Work diligently on your own stated by The Bible and every 12 Step Program.

I can tell you what the GOP talking points are, in view of the fact that I am an "insider." Well, not really, but I have an acquaintance -- I always hesitate to call him a friend -- who is a rabid conservative and very likely neocon as well. Here is his view:

1. Palin now stands to earn a gazillion bucks from a book and speaking engagements. She is hoping the voters, who have demonstrably short memories, will simply forget that she walked off the job in Alaska because she will emerge as the female Newt Gingrich (without the messy divorce record).

2. Disenchantment with Hussein (my "friend" always refers to him as "Hussein") will increase as more and more layoffs cause the unemployment figures to go deep into the double digits, since (and I quote), "this is the Second Great Depression." Palin will take advantage of that and decry "big government" and "deficit spending" as the culprits. Naturally, these are the fault of the Dems.

3. She will also take advantage of the bottoming-out of the stock market, with sell-offs coming close to those seen in the '30s. Again, Hussein will be blamed. No matter that all of the economic trouble occured on a Repub's watch.

My "friend" will be hard put, however, to explain just how she will become electable over, say, Romnabee. But she will try all the same. You betcha.

When Palin lost that long-ago Miss Alaska beauty contest, coming in only runner-up, she told a friend that she had lost because she'd failed to "create enough personal drama around herself". As you watch Palin, keep those words in mind. Even when in or near public office, she operates not like a statesman/woman but like a beauty pageant contestant, and she has learned a lot about "creating personal drama around herself". Note that following an endless re-working of "Letterman is Bad" we had, last week, a Personal Drama du Jour. Then her big announcement was made on a slow news day when she would have little media competition.

Watch her now. Expect to see her hairy head everywhere you look. Expect fund-raisers, paid speeches (she needs money), and possibly something in media a la Huckabee's Down-Home Hour or maybe as a Hard-Right Oprah (I bet FOX has already made her an offer, just since yesterday).

Palin will keep herself before the cameras. The thought that knowing anything about policy or diplomacy or any other -cy in order to be President of the United States does not compute in her mental computer. Her focus will be on building a huge crowd that will scream for her nomination. "Some have greatness thrust upon them." Any mention that she is as shallow as a street gutter will be countered with accusations of anti-feminism, anti-Christianism, and liberal media bias.

This lady is not done with us. She hasn't yet made up for that devastating loss when she didn't get chosen Miss Alaska. Watch for a lot of glitzy star lens camera shots.

Whether another scandal is brewing or not is not the issue here. She is a backwoods illiterate cheerleader who made good in a very small pond. The real story should be her being a racist, bigot, and far from someone connected to the outside world and events. She comes from a family and circle with moral ambivalence--A severely dysfunctional family unit. They are typical Republican "leaders" who speak of family values, God, religion, guns and possess self-righteous indignation when questioned about their conduct. She is one of the Far Right extremists who have helped bring this country to its knees. The same people who loved Bush and Cheney and still believe those two, and their enablers, are what this country needs. Trust me, this woman has not gone away. She is a politician and likes the taste of power and adoration. We have not seen the last of her.

IF someone stated that they were for smaller government AND helping poor families with children, increasing aid for working poor, expanding unemployment compensation, promoting social equality,and/or doing anything for the working poor, Faux News would go hysterical. Even the other infotainment networks would raise loud guffaws.
However, with a straight face, she boasts of "support for our troops"[optional endless military engagement in hostile foreign countries] and building more prisons [to promote the pro crime/violence/addiction wing of both political parties] with nary a snicker. These pro big government frauds invite ridicule for their "small government" agenda. She LOVES big government - as long as it subsidizes exploitation of the poor and promotion of the financial interests of wealthy contributors. Like all other Stalinists she is for protecting the country - that is inseparable from those with money who actually rule.

I don't like her personally, but it does suck the way the news twists many things she says.

All she implied was that Russian planes fly close by, which they do, and all people seem to remember is what Tina Fae says instead. Russia proposed an underground tunnel to Alaska in 07 for oil. Alaska alone exported 8 million in food and machinery to them in 05. If she wanted to consider Alaska/Russia ties as foreign experience, she kind of had a right to.

It was right about the time she was the first person to mention much of Obama's corruption, and both the adoring news and a collaborative GOP turned like dogs on her. McCain went out of his way not to mention some of Obama's more corrupt juicy stories, such as how BO & Ayers went through millions with the CAC that was supposed to help kids test scores and ended up being used for their political propaganda and backers instead. It's no surprise ACORN teachers didn't help the kids learn math. There was also the way he had a team of layer thugs take out the competition by not leaving until all other democrats were off the ballot in IL,
or even his strange flip flop between Trinity and AIPAC.

There were so many unsavory things about Obama that contradicted his clean image and rhetoric, but seemed off limits for the press and McCain, and as soon as Palin starts mentioning it she's branded with everything from racists to a nut job, and any dirt magnified, and her own party turning on her. Of the "blue and red" teams, sadly, Palin was the most honest and she got crushed and picked apart. She's not smooth.

Maybe she's just sick of it, or wants a break. I know I would and I know you would too.

Yeah, she's nutty, as much as any democrat or republican, justifying their bias in their own way. Look, we're criticizing them now, so we're not bad people too. Looking at Congress and the presidency, most people believe and justify the lies when it really matters anyway. Why should she need to be different? She's way more human and honest than Obama to me, and I don't like either. Smarter does not mean less evil. Between Palin and crack law drug warrior MasterCard czar Biden, I'd take Palin, because it's impossible for her to chew gum and lie at the same time.

Of course, I voted Nader/Gonzalez, since the "lesser of two evils", McCain/Palin, was still too evil for me.

Who knows why Sarah is doing what she's doing. What we do know is that Sarah is completely unable to recognize the truth. I'm not sure she has a passing acquaintance with the truth. Sarah did more tearing down of others than many politicians and apparently felt that it was okay as long as it was the other party. Let's hope she doesn't ever successfully gain a public office again. She's definitely proven that she can't handle it. She was elected to serve and she has consistently served just one person - herself.

And Trig? I didn't see so much in the way of maternal instincts when she was in the presidential/vice presidential race. Nor did I recognize maternal instincts in her parading her pregnant daughter before the country and making a campaign issue out of that pregnancy.

Bye, bye Sarah!!!

She is about to be indicted for corruption due to her actions as Mayor of Wasilla in 2002 giving that Hockey Rink contract to the same contractor that possibly built her house for free for double the price it should have cost. She awarded them $13 million for a LITTLE LEAGUE HOCKEY RINK when experts say at the most it should have cost less than half of that. The same flooring, windows and roofing were used on her $1.3 million house. Yes, somehow a small town mayor and a man on a fisherman's salary were able to afford a million dollar house somehow.

And the worst part of this was that the investigation started in October 2008, so McCain's people knew about it and didn't care.

It makes sense. The usually telegenic Palin looked totally frazzled like she just got some really bad news before speaking.

When you're the national poster girl for know-nothing politics the usual rules and standards don't apply. To her fan base this is Sarah "telling it like it is", thumbing her nose at the evil leftist media. ("Iconoclast" has 2 too many sylables for the plain folk). It's a Maverick thing, y'all wouldn't understand.

Palin will need time to be tutored on world events, to analyse her media image in the light of Tina Fey's zingers, to organize her Evangelical base with its special wing: families with developmentally "special" needs children and adults. She'll have to find a hairstyle with more "gravitas", make the to-botox-or-not-to-botox decision, and have a few more People articles on the cookie-baking joys of home. On homeland security there will be more visits to her son and the soldiers, now on their bait-&-switch mission in Iraq2 (aka Afghanistan surge). She'll have to have another yoga-pose-against Alaska-beauty-landscape, and another way of saying she is fit as a fiddle and man enough to beat Obama in a foot-race....so much to do. She'll have to find Bristol an upright young man to marry, and show us the relaxed off-camera ultra-soft-sweetheart-soap side of her spunky persona. And the soundtrack will be the ongoing up-beat, up-talking embedded-with-the-Marines on-air cutie infotainment "news-gals" with their push-up bras and valley-girl moxie so perfected that they can make war-dead and unemployment sound like way-cool "challenges" in the "purpose-driven" lives, liberties, and pursuits of mindless techno happinesses in our "interesting" times.

Hearing the Declaration of Independence read today with its subtext of Guantanamo & the puppet King George Dubya's "bring it on" is....is....

words-fail territory.

... maybe she is just a regular person after all. We both made Gov Palin to be "superhuman" or "evil" even "messiah-esk" when all she wanted to prove a point, maybe government can once again be "for the people, by the people." I can name you more than five members of congress that should of step down weeks and months ago however not only they stick around... they get re-elected. The tenaciousness of the microscope we placed a Governor of Alaska, why it really warranted when you have a state of California issuing IOU's, New York State Legislator mired in grid lock and just to throw in states like New Jersey and Illinois that are all ways a hot bed of drama, the main focus was on a Conservative Women that fairly scared the crap of what could of been.

At the end of the day however, her job was done. Could something like this even go down in New Jersey "small town mayor takes on a political machine and becomes governor only two years later to be tapped for Vice President" maybe not in this America as we celebrate our independents as we are on the fast track to become more dependent on those we chose to elect (well I didn't chose this) however as we steer ourselves into a Progressive Democracy as a collective misery spreads, be sure to tell your children on "how it used to be."

If this is the current political climate then why bother to step in the kitchen only if your opponent can cut it on fire and lock you in and walk away unscathed. The powers that be, won, yes that means: You Know Whom You Are. My question to you is: "how does it feel," "are you proud of yourself" and if you are then the republic we know as America is lost.

I will not go quietly into the night however, I am Sarah Palin, whom is with me?

I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to Sarah Palin for alerting us to the futility of lame-duck governors. I'm writing at once to my own ldg, John Baldacci, urging him to resign forthwith and thus liberate his fellow-Mainers from the burden of his ld-ness (ld-itude?). I know that Gov. Baldacci naively thinks he was elected and re-elected to serve the people of Maine, not to advance his own political career. But now that Gov. Palin has set us straight on this matter, he needs to move on for the common good.

self-serving I've ever heard. It was as if it was written by a fifth-grader.

None of it passes the smell test.

She's quitting as governor with 18 months left because she doesn't want to be a "lame duck" governor? Because "lame ducks" don't really work, they travel a lot, take political junkets and just kind of skate by without doing much? Who would be making her do that? It's bullshit.

And what was with the sports analogies? Basketball? Really? What athlete worth their salt pulls themselves out of the big game and sits on the bench? Or worse, just walks off the court and heads to the locker room?

Her mixed metaphors were a work of abstract art! Seriously. But the backdrop of the beautiful lake... and once again, Mother Nature provided the laugh track. Did you hear the ducks and geese and other birds in the background? Trying to drown out her rantings? It reminded me of her standing in front of the turkey slaughter before Thanksgiving last year!

Oh... this is like an early birthday present for us all!

Sarah who?

Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
From what I have been able translate from the speech she gave yesterday and some analysis I have come up with several possible reasons why Governor Palin resigned.

1.) She wants time to start studying for the Presidential campaign.

2.) Scandal. Something unknown or something deeper with what we do know, either Troopergate or other ethics trangressions.

3.) Health. Hers or her family's. This could also include another pregnancy or two.

4.) "Politics is hard" And that nasty Mr. Letterman makes those bad jokes, and that nasty Ms. Couric asks those difficult questions.

5.) Rush is going on vacation and he needs someone to fill in.

I wonder what would happen if, IF, she were to be elected as President and she gets a 3 am phone call. "This job is tough so I am quitting. And it's all the Dems' fault"

If being governor of a state with a population less than the city of Oakland, CA is too tough for her, how can she expect to convince the voters she can do the job of President? 'scuse me while I make some popcorn.

We the lame-brained electorate might have a better grip on what's really affecting us. As it is, I'm already upset and angry at Obama for not only betraying us but in fact trying to out-Dubya Dubya to the point that if he keeps this up and I were forced to pick between Obama and Palin assuming that there are no 3rd parties, I would vote for Palin in total insanity. Thankfully, I won't have to choose between Obama and Palin by 2012. Now that Palin is out of politics, the M$M and even major progressive outlets on the Internet such as this one can stop putting Sarah Palin articles. But I'm guessing that since MJ and Palin generate more comments and traffic, it won't happen. That's why I'm not taking this site as seriously as I used to. :(

P.S.: If you think I'm a Republican just because I feel sorry and sad for Sarah Palin getting persecuting by the media all the while getting bitter and upset about Obama moving to the right and dumping all progressive/liberal ideas, all I can say is KISS MY ASS ! LOL ! :)

You would be a fool, to sell this lady short. This is a brillant move and exactly what she would need to do to challenge Mr. Obama for the President's job. Who better than Gov. Palin to become a community organizer? She is one citizen who can organize and speak out against the direction that Mr. Obama and his administration is taking this country. When she changes the direction, who is going to tell her that she is not qualified to be the candiate. Was not Mr. Obama a "community organizer?

She attracts crowds and speaks from her heart and without a telpromter. Many do prefer her style, to the NEW CHANGE that has come to Washington. It will be impossible to bully this lady as she provides a voice for the IGs, whistle blowers, GM dealerships owners, bankers, non-union members, and blue dog democrats.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER GO AFTER ALL THE CORRUPTION IN WASHINGTON, D.C. WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR MOTHER OR SISTER IF THEY RAN FOR PRESIDENT? HOW MANY INSULTS CAN A PERSON STAND BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE HAVE MADE UP SO MANY STORIES ABOUT HER? THE MOST REDICULOUS ONE WAS THAT SHE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE. JUST WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DID OBAMA HAVE? A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER AND IN THE SENATE WHERE HE DIDN'T REALLY TAKE A STAND ON A LOT OF ISSUES. BEFORE YOU CAST THE FIRST STONE; LOOK IN YOUR BACKGROUND AND SEE IF YOU HAVE LIVED EXEMPLARY LIVES? WE HAVE ALL FELL SHORT IN THE EYES OF GOD. AND WHEN JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS THE ONE THING HE SAID THAT I FELT WAS THE MOST PROFOUND WAS "FATHER, FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO." AND HE DIED

Maybe Palin is actually smarter than we think?

With the serious economic problems and low oil prices limiting how much money she can give to her constituents and promising hard choices and conflict over the next 18 months, how's this for a scenario? She looks around and sees Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and other conservative nincompoops raking in money and getting to spout their views without having to actually do any work...and decided she'd rather get the same deal? I predict a guest spot on Faux News initially, with a high probability of her having her own segment of a show, or even her own show, soon.

Surely, she can't be so stupid as to think that quitting in the middle of her term, especially with her already well established lack of credentials for higher office, will help her run for an win such an election?

I can see it now, the campaign ad against her that says "She quit as governor with no notice and 18 months left in her term. What if she's elected as (fill in the position) and then decides she doesn't want to finish the job...and quits again? Winners never quit...and quitters never win."

No, this has to be a plan to get "money for nothing" for blathering her half baked, "common sense", delusional ideas, while playing at being someone taken seriously. After all, she can see Ann, Michelle and the rest from her couch! You Betcha!

Palin's resignation is certainly good riddance. I just wish our governor (the definitely undistinguished Rick Perry of Texas) would follow in her footsteps. He's an embarrassment to the entire state. And while I'm wishful hoping, how about Jeb Bush in Florida? I'd best not get started, though. My list of undesirable, mush-for-brains, right wing nuts that I wish would get lost is virtually endless.

I just had to go over this trainwreck again. I've seen deranged people on crystal meth conduct themselves with more rational dignity.

But the most bizarre part is....

"It was four "yes's" and one "hell yeah!" The "hell yeah" sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that..."

A) The uber-Christian saying one of her children said "hell" and repeating it in public?! GASP!

B) I'd sure love to hear the details of how a mentally challenged 1-year-old was able to comprehend and give a verbal vote on the matter.

C) Funny, all other reports say her children didn't know about this until it happened.

D) I haven't seen this confirmed, but The Daily Beast have said she may have used the same "the hell yeah sealed it" line when discussing her children telling her to accept McCain's VP nomination. And we all know only rednecks say "Hell Yeah".

"I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently."

Why does she care what people on the internet have to say about her family? She must have suffered like crazy through high school with that thinskin.

"Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we ALL could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities RIGHT – that time is precious... the world needs more "Trigs", not fewer."

There is no way this was not a spur-of-the-moment ramble session with diatribes like that. What do people online making retarded-jokes have to do with affecting your ability to govern? They don't even live in your state more than likely. The media certainly wasn't making Trig-jokes; they didn't even have the courage to look into the bizarre circumstance of his birth, and whether Bristol was secretly his mother, much less mock him.

IMHO, she got a taste of the "glamorous" life and can't go back! She does a book and goes on a book tour and she gets all that again, family privacy be damned. She's a sell out and wants to bank as much dough as she can while she still has 10 more minutes of fame.

So when does Fox News ink a multi-million dollar deal to make Sarah Palin a political commentator to add to the rest of their buffoons?

So when does the real Sarah Palin come out and scold Tina Fey for impersonating the governor of Alaska? It's a joke, right?

t's hard to keep those hillbillies down in Wasilla, Alaska not that they got a taste of shopping at Nieman-Marcus and Bloomingdales. Since she had to give up those clothes, I suppose she plans to make some money to replace have a wardrobe like Cindy McCain.

When Sen. Inhofe of OK called new Sen. Al Franken if MN a clown, did he ever listen to any recent comments by Mark Sanford and Sarah Palin?

Maybe she has committed the ultimate Patriotic act on the eve of July 4th by removing herself from the public dialogue. Boo Hoo! What will the comedians do now for a punchline? Poor Tina Fey!

The Republicans and Democrats are parties of middle class citizens
Posted by: skepticgod on Jul 4, 2009 12:34 PM
Current rating: 1    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
The Republican Party just like The Democratic Party is a political party of middle class people and the middle-classes of USA don't want USA to get economically better. The middle-classes of USA conspire to support the bankruptcy of the United States by voting every 4 years for Democrats and Republicans.

What we need is a workers-council state in USA. A government ruled by workers while at the same time on the economic side: the mega corporations of USA like Wal-Mart, Pepsi, Coca Cola, Mcdonalds, General Electric, etc. owned by workers, thru the system of "workers control of production" (Workers management/workers-ownership), or "Workers stock ownership" however you want to label it.

Only under the proletarian dictatorship are real liberties for the exploited and real participation of the proletarians and peasants in governing the country possible. Under the dictatorship of the proletariat, democracy is proletarian democracy, the democracy of the exploited majority, based on the restriction of the rights of the exploiting minority and directed against this minority.

The dictatorship of the proletariat cannot arise as the result of the peaceful development of bourgeois society and of bourgeois democracy; it can arise only as the result of the smashing of the bourgeois state machine, the bourgeois army, the bourgeois bureaucratic apparatus, the bourgeois police.

Therefore, Lenin is right in saying: "The proletarian revolution is impossible without the forcible destruction of the bourgeois state machine and the substitution for it of a new one" (see Vol. XXIII, P. 342)

Soviet power as the state form of the dictatorship of the proletariat. The victory of the dictatorship of the proletariat signifies the suppression of the bourgeoisie, the smashing of the bourgeois state machine and the substitution of proletarian democracy for bourgeois democracy

Let other people you know learn about socialism! Spread the word... the more people who know the truth, the greater the force against the capitalist system! Resistance forever!

I expect the Republicans will want to quickly distance themselves from a political lightweight like Palin just as they did with Dan Quayle - remember the guy who is famous for not being able to spell potato?

Bush was igorant much like Reagan, but also very politically successful in the big leagues as the governor of a big state. Alaska is bigger by far than Texas, but with a population of 700,000 is dwarfed by most major US cities and is way off the political radar.

Palin had become a caricature of herself. Her depth of intelligence is an insult, and anyone who thinks she is, is as dumb or dumber. She talks about how people changed; people didn't change, she simply couldn't take the heat that comes with the territory. While she can dish out mean-spirited crap, it's all pity me and victimization when it's slung it her direction. She says she wants to help others---ya right. I'm sure the $$$$ signs in front of books deals and appearances on FAUX news and anti-choice rallies are quite attractive---more than her salary as a governor, and she still has to pay for all those clothes. Palin is a pathological liar and quitter. How many colleges did she drop out of?

I'm willing to bet there's an "Argentina" moment coming. Speculations: Really serious ethics charges; Her husband is having an affair; She's behind the torching of her church in Wasalia; Someone in her family is about to get an abortion--maybe Willow really did get pregnant!

What ever, this is a win-win for everyone.

Comments to this article seem divided halfway between seeing the glass half full and half empty. The lucky optimists see it as half full and are waving 'good-bye' with unbounding joy. The other half of us are Very Wary .. Ms. Palin may have court cases ahead, may not be God's gift to motherhood or government, but she is far from through, and she could still take Her bite out of the lower 48. It's a mixture of lowered expectations regarding her and a certain embrace of the lowest common denominator of 'the people.' Remember her v/p debate with Joe Biden? Because she finished her sentences and didn't brandish a rifle, she was a success. The benign pundit Mark Halperin said reverently on Charlie Rose's round-up that he guessed Saturday Night Live wouldn't have much material to work on (presumably after that 'fine' performance). Was he kidding? They had a field day that weekend.
She speaks of 'helping others,' and she Can, in fact did so with the sorry election of the junior senator from .. was it Georgia? Chambliss, anyway. And do not forget that the secret service reluctantly admitted that security and protection for candidate Obama had to be increased Every time she spoke. A true pundit quoted among these letters, radio host Bill Press, shared the quote that 'Winners don't quit, and quitters don't win.' But he was talking about normal people in normal times. About to be ex-Governor Palin and her champions do not fall in that normal category by any stretch. Be very watchful, America ...stay alert. It ain't over 'til it's over.

No doubt those who do not like the woman for her beliefs or because she is not a liberal or Democrat, will see something sinister in her resigning. Personally there is a lot I like about Palin.

But knowing Alaska and knowing the financial toll her family has taken paying lawyers and publicists to deal with crap like David Letterman, she and her family probably just want to be able to salvage what money they still have as well as savour the outdoors life they love.

For folks who live outside the 'wild west' our way of life isn't understood. Two thirds of those who came west starting in the early 1800's, didn't stay, because the life here was to rugged and to hard.

Its still the same in many ways, here in the rural areas. One need only see how many week end or vacation city types come to the rural Sierras and then either get lost or drown to see how many people don't know the harshness of the area.

Personally I wish Governor Palin nothing but the best. Wish Governor Sanford would resign!! Now there is a loser!!!

She isn't being blackmailed, she's about to be indicted!

It went like this. She spent 15 mil of her tiny town's future to build a sports complex. The builders were the same folks who owned Ted Stevens - and whom the Feds have been investigating for some time. Her house was built at the same time, by the same time, by - she says - Todd and "a few buddies." Meanwhile she was busily wiping out the paper trail (by exempting herself from building permits, etc).

Just watch. It is all about to unfold.

WOW. That was the longest diatribe for someone not planning to run I've ever heard. No hint of narcissism that I can see. It's all about her and the glamor.

I must hope she can use some of "her own" money to run her very personal campaign for the Republican's and knock them out for the count, if they haven't already.

It's funny, when she talks about herself, it's all a written speech of EVERYTHING she thinks 'ya'll' want to hear, but it is about someone else, she'll usually steal the limelight as she did in 2008 or spew a whole lot of venom into the dead air. People will remember the "Bush Legacy" a lot longer than 4 years.

Notice her cutesy comment when Colbert was in Baghdad didn't get even a snort let alone a laugh. It was completely silent. More silent than the one someone wrote for Bush that probably would tell someone with a brain that she's not as popular as the thinks she is and that she's rather delusional if she doesn't remember Bush's stimulus package but can remember the one Obama was forced to do, thanks to his predecessor and that the big government spending came from the Republicans.

It's obvious that she left the door wide open for running and refused to say she wouldn't. And those with a brain couldn't be happier.

Fox News Buries Palin
Posted by: mikeblack on Jul 5, 2009 6:35 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Palin's attorney, the same one she says she quit to stop having to hire to defend her, is announcing threats to sue the websites who are claiming she is resigning due to an upcoming indictment about claims the contractor who built the Wasilla Hockey Rink got an inflated contract in exchange for building her house.

Also, I just saw Mike Huckabee, Karl Rove and the new Alaskan Governor on Fox News Sunday. Rove absolutely buried her, and Huckabee trashed her as well, but did it much more nicely. The only one to defend her was her replacement and the host barely let him get a word in, only letting him speak twice and then ignoring him as Rove got the most face time to bury her. If this is any indication, she will be demolished in the primaries.

In a nutshell, Rove said she had a good excuse for not being able to live up to expectations as a sitting governor, but now that she's totally free it's going to add pressure to be perfect that he doesn't think she can handle. Huckabee crapped all over her press conference, saying the entire point of a press conference is to answer questions, not create them.

Rove also said doing this means she's going to have to do something innovative to live up to the claim of not being a usual politician. He said if she just goes around endorsing people in 2010, the strategy of quitting will fail. But if she has a new innovative idea it will be a success, but he wasn't convinced.

So either Rove has a candidate in mind he plans on working with or she's just dead to the Republican party. But in the meantime I'm just shocked that I actually agree with Karl Rove.

She never has before, why would she now? The Governor's office is the best place to sit out a scandal, or even a weak indictment. Resigning won't automatically stop either from proceding. Candidates don't run for president as ex-governors if they can run as governors.

No, Palin made a deal. Whatever strong indictment, whatever undeniable evidence of felonious wrongdoing caused her to resign, we are unlikely to ever see it. If she couldn't have hushed it up by resigning, she wouldn't have resigned. Sarah made a deal with somebody big.

Sarah Paling already has enough exposure on the corporate media. There's no need to include more articles on her on this site unless Obama's doing a shitty performance and deserves to be impeached and removed which he does.

I am not a Sarah Palin fan.

One thing is for sure though---Sarah Palin would not sell out her conservative base the way the Democratic Party, Obama, Biden, Clinton and Rahm Emanuel have in their giving the BIG MIDDLE FINGER TO ALL THE PROGRESSIVE/LIBERALS who voted for Obama.

So, you can laugh at Sarah Palin but realize that she deeply believes in conservative ideals and would not sell-out her base, like Obama already has.

When are you liberals/progressives going to wake-up and realize Obama is out for political expediency and does not give a rat's ass about your issues?

Obama is not a liberal or progressive. Sarah Palin is a conservative. Palin cannot throw the b.s. around like Obama does. Palin is an easy target, but she is not a liar. And you all thought Obama was gonna be some "peace president" or deliver that healthcare reform. Stop being so dumb and/or gullible. Ya gotta love that new huge embassy Obama is building in Pakistan, for billions of dollars, as Americans die of cancer because they have no health insurance....Obama's healthcare plan equals euthansia.

Obama has continued and expanded the military-police-corporatist state of George W. Bush, albeit with smiles and nods and a happy face. Obama has just put a happy face on the military-police-corporatist state of Bush and you fake-phony iberals/progressives think "change" has arrived. If you think Obama is much different than Bush then you are as dumb as Sarah Palin is, or at least that is your charge here.

I am a leftist who joined the Green Party when Obama showed no spine by opening his arms to Joe Lieberman. Lieberman stood there and clapped his hands as Sarah Palin told crowd after crowd that "Obama consorts with terrorists," and Joe had a big smile on his face, clapping with his hands. The spineless Obama welcomed him back in rapid fashion and the spineless Democratic Party gave ole Joe a standing ovation in welcoming Traitor Joe Lieberman back into the fold. The Dems let Lieberman keep most of his committee positions as well. This showed that the Democratic Party has no principles or standards.

Lately, Joe Lieberman has come out against the public healthcare option as well. Well, Obama and the Democratic Psrty can have Lieberman and his ilk like Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln, Evan Bayh, etc. The Democrats are full of BLue Dogs and Conservative Democrats controlled by the Republican-Lite Democrativ Leadership Council. The Democrats are disgusting in their support of big agribusinesses, the military-police-corporatist-torture-anti-Civil Liberties party. Obama has no spine at all, and he is merely an empty suit.

The Republicans make suck, but, the Democrats act like bent over fools! IMO, the moderate liberal Democrats' virtual obsession with Palin serves to distract from the glaring flaws and deficiencies in their own house, the White one. That's why they can't or won't leave her alone, or let her find whatever destiny she is seeking without accompanying her journey with boos and catcalls.

The Palin family is moving - that is the headline we are sure to see in the coming months. If Palin really does want to be where the action is AND wants to keep her family nearby (and given the past activity of the older daughter, I can understand why), then she will likely move the whole household to the East Coast, probably near Washington, D.C. No more inconvenient gubernatorial duties to stand in the way, and lots of money to be made giving lectures to the mainland elites and campaigning for her GOP pals (what's left of them).

...and to the stretched-thin U.S. military, the Republicans have refused to rethink either their tax cuts or their overseas military commitments. Instead they have opted for a political strategy of attacking anyone and any proposal that seeks even a mildly different approach.

But what has Bam Bam done differently? EXCEPT to NOT attack in any way shape or form. Playing nice with these neoconfacists will not work.

The Democraps have wasted (and continue to waste) all the political capital they have gained.

They are just treading water until the Repukes figure out how to get the next Shrub in office (it may or may not be Palin) and continue the destruction of this nation as we once knew it.

Bam Bam needs to get a spine or cut the cords of his corporate pimps. Will this happen? Doubt it. He needs to at least have the, take control, I don't give a sh!t attitude that the Shrub had, and actually FIX SOMETHING!

As Obamoshrub heads toward a one term presidency, it is the Democraps that are becoming the most disappointing and repulsive in the last 9 years.

You can't continue to focus on the Palins and their ilk. At this point in time they should not be the distraction that is being made here.

Sarah Palin, the former Vice Presidential candidate has been making news since the election, most of it not really noteworthy. However, now there's some Sarah Palin news that's at least worth a little attention. She has announced that she will resign her post as Governor of Alaska. There hasn't been a reason given specifically as to why she has resigned the post as Alaska Governor, but it's rumored that she's doing it to concentrate on being the frontrunner for the 2012 Republican Candidate, and she's probably also looking into some instant payday loans for campaign funding. Sarah Palin is loved by some, detested and ridiculed by others, and secured loans for a 2012 Presidential run might not be ill spent.

There is no scandal from Sarah. The only scandalous behavior has come from those who launched an unprecedented attack on her children. Her higher calling is to protect and care for her children. Beyond that she will have a brilliant career. She will write and speak and think. If she returns to seeking some political office, she will enliven the debate and we will all be richer because of it.
