In Order to Form a More Perfect Union
America is now--and has always been--nation of immigrants. What better time, then, to turn our attention this Independence Day to the demographic diversity that has long been a principal strength of the U.S. economy and civil society? Immigrants, Latinos, and Asians play critical economic roles as workers, entrepreneurs, and consumers. As a result, they will be crucial players in the nation's efforts to recover from the current recession and the success of America's economic future.

Major City Police Chiefs Just Say No To Immigration Enforcement
Tired of spending scant time and resources on immigration enforcement, major city police chiefs called on Congress, Wednesday, to move on comprehensive immigration reform.  Like most law enforcement officers across the country, chasing down undocumented immigrants proves to be too much of a strain when faced with real priorities like keeping violent criminals off the street.

Here He Goes Again: Lamar Smith Rehashes Distorted Claims on Immigrants and Social Security
Representative Lamar Smith, the top ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, has been making the rounds again with astounding claims regarding immigrants and Social Security. Based on what he has described as "hard data" released by the Social Security Administration (SSA), Rep. Smith's analysis is inaccurate and his conclusion wrong.

Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) NOT an Immigration Benefit
There is a lot of confusion surrounding Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs). Immigration restrictionists take advantage of this confusion and often bring up ITINs in an effort to make it seem as if undocumented immigrants are receiving special benefits or quasi-legal immigration status. The fact is that ITINs are used to pay taxes-some legal immigrants have them, some undocumented immigrants use them, and some people who don't even live in the U.S. have them if they need to pay U.S. taxes.

Blaming Immigrants for State Budget Deficits Doesn't Make Sense
As state and local governments grapple with growing budget deficits, some pundits and policymakers are attempting to blame immigrants. According to this reasoning, if the tax contributions of immigrants don't cover the costs of the public services they utilize in a single year, then immigrants must be a financial burden on the majority of taxpayers. By this misleading measure, however, nearly all native-born children, retirees, and unemployed workers would also qualify as economic "burdens."

...I will celebrate eating lots of hamburgers and drinking lots of beer.

And depending on how pissed I am at my country that day, I might wear patriotic colors. ...might.

The system we can see now is quite confusing. There are lots of immigrant and they are not seems to be the so called "burden", well there's no basis that they are affecting the status of a country which they prefer to live. Furthermore, many are more hardworking immigrants! Make sure you keep smart loan strategies in mind when applying for online payday loans.

Support Legal Immigrants

Legal immigrants and the poorest Americans are the ones hurt most by illegal aliens. Help these unfortunates by making sure that you employ only American citizens or legals with a "green card."

Turn the rest over to ICE for free transportation home so that they can apply properly and follow the law.

especially when people can't be illegal

its not illegal to be a person.

a person canNOT be illegal

they can be undocumented...which, legally, is not even technically "illegal"

i'm from NYC and have always though it was amazing that at the entrance to the harbor it says "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" and I wouldn't mind breathing a little more freely myself.

Aren't we celebrating our self-determination? Isn't it about our assumptions, as stated in our nation's founding documents? Weren't our non-indigenous all immigrants? Yes, let us celebrate our roots, our ancesters, our origins, after we examine our assumptions!

Everyone is descended from immigrants, even the Indians

There are no truly indigenous people here. Even the ancestors of the Indians came across the then-existing land bridge from Asia into the Americas and worked their way down through the continents. So in that sense, we are all the descendants of immigrants.

I reject, however, the idea that we are still immigrants. My own family has been here over 300 years, and I consider myself 100% American. My ancestors came from various parts of Europe, but I did not. And they came legally, under the laws of their day. They did not sneak in in violation of the law.

4th of july... a different take...

for the grand entry at an undisclosed rez powwow in the northern plains, the following scenario will break out... goes off like clockwork every time...

there still exists 13 of the original small american flags carried into battle by general custer's 7th calvary (the battle also known as 'Custer's Last Stand')... the tribes involved in the battle still have them and they are stored in a mobile location so no one really knows what tribe's turn it is each year...

these flags will be carried by american Indian military veterans (mostly vietnam vets) into the dance arena along with about 2-3,000 dancers dressed to the hilt including knives, war clubs, and a flock of legal eagle feathers...

a drum will be asked to sing a victory song, and all dance their hearts out for these flags captured in battle...

the visitors will include at least 2 enlisted and 2 officers from the army... they will demand the return of army property, the flags, and same as always they will be told NO!!!

the flags are carefully packed up, guarded and taken off this rez and moved to a new undisclosed location...

same thing happens each 4th of july these flags come out... they get a little more worn and tattered every year they come out, but this is america after all, at least if you're Indian...

Immigrants

Years back we had spare land for farming and we sold our goods overseas, so our factories needed more workers.
Now we do not need them. They ARE a burden on social services and have caused many hospitals to go out of business. Watch what they do with our health care plan - I have heard of no movements to only treat citizens with government health care.
Industry likes them because they keep salaries down.
This country has too high a population as it is. We do not need them and their anchor babies to dissipate even more of our resources.
