John McCain: 'I Hope That We Will Act' Against Iran

Today, thousands of Iranians took to the streets to protest the election results declaring Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner -- results Vice President Biden said yesterday he had “doubts” about. Speaking on Fox News this morning, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) condemned the Iranian election as a “sham,” declaring, “I hope that we will act“:

MCCAIN: It really is a sham that they’ve pulled off, and I hope that we will act. [...]

CARLSON: How will the Obama administration react to this? Will they come out directly and say that this is unconscionable, that this can go on when they claim to be a democracy, or will they take an easier tact [sic] on it?

MCCAIN: Well, initial reports by, quote, administration officials, are that they say that they’re not going to change their policy of dialogue, et cetera, et cetera. I think they should be condemned, and it’s obvious that this was a rigged election and depriving the people of their democratic rights. We are for human rights all over the world.

...

As with McCain’s impetuous response to the Georgia crisis last summer, his first reaction to the events in Iran is condemnation and a call to “act.” By contrast, the Obama administration seems to understand that knowing when not to act is just as strategically important as knowing when to do so, and that the most productive thing the United States can do for Iran’s reform movement -- and human rights -- at the moment is to keep itself, to the extent possible, out of the equation.

Digg!

He did, after all, "joke" about "Bomb, bomb Iran," during the election last year.

But he wasn't joking.

Whatever happened in Iran is an internal affair of a sovereign country. To give even a tiniest bit of credibility to McCain for his imperialist response would be to also suggest that it would be OK for some outside source to intervene in our fixed elections, namely, 2000 and 2004. (The world might be a better place if they had).

How are we going to act?

Our economy is in the toilet, so we can't afford much... certainly not a full-scale invasion. Our military is also far over-extended. Sure, we could drop some bombs... but on whom? And for what reason, exactly? And how would we deal with the consequences of it?

Why should we act???? Its not our country, its not a unique situation by far, and claiming we would do it for human rights would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.

John Boy, stop war mongering! Where the hell we you when our own election got high jacked. What we should do is mind out own business and tell Israel to do the same. ANNA

McCain is dangerous and irrelevant. Why do we care what he "thinks" (loose use of the word)?

Obama's response is able--cool and measured--so unlike the typical jingoistic reactions of our unthinking fellow citizens.

and we did the rigging.

I think back to our covert destabilization efforts in Iran, which our own congress voted to fund. Covert destabilization basically means going in and fucking things up, organizing fringe groups, manufacturing threats, building a big straw man to knock down.

See:

linked text = Linked text

Our government has had Iran in its crosshairs all this time, drooling to invade, including Obama. Would we just let Iran go, let go the scapegoat Ahmadinejad over a simple election?

Is there ever one moment of strife in the world in which the US hasn't a hand?

Okay, I can't quite get a grip on that linked text function, but I think I at least if you click you'll get the story.

What would any reasonable person expect from the right wing, lunatic John McCain? War mongerer, failed "leader" and liar, McCain is among the worst of what is America. Why does the media continue to give him time and space?

Well, John McCain has clearly and unequivocally outed himself as a liar and willing to do anything to get elected to anything. His performance during the '08 elections prove this with no doubt left.

In terms of continuing the Cheney-Wolfowitz plan.

http://work.colum.edu/~amiller/wolfowitz1992.htm

I'd suspect the rest of the world would have nothing to do with this nonsense. Further, the US hasn't a large enough or trained military ground, sea, or air contingent to face Iraq, much less Russia or China, THE OTHER TWO SUPER POWERS. If the US can't win in Afghanistan and Iraq, what sort of military prowess do they tend to exude? If Iran DOES have nuclear capability, you can bet it will reach Israel, and will. Time to stop listening to or electing (yeah right!) halfwits that have no knowledge, education, or experience in things involving warfare. Warfare isn't for economic purposes, or political purposes. It isn't Cheney's or George's daughters in uniform, yet Dick's GAY daughter seems to expectorate as if she had a large body of military and other governmental knowledge. But you know, that's the way ALL repiglicans are. Alliganaries. Alligator mouths, and canary asses. Crybabies, all have messy drawers, just the epitome of swine flu candidates.

What happens in Iran is none of your business! No one sent you to Washington to represent Iran, Israel or any other country but these United States. We have too many war-mongers in the Senate already without you lending your croaking voice to the crowd.
Now quietly fade away, as you should have done years ago.
