Crazy Kooks in Texas County Wage War on 'Hello'

Once again, Texas leads the way in absurdities. One kook has decided he doesn't like to say hello, and has convinced the whole county to go along with him. Can you guess why?

In this friendly little ranching town, "hello" is wearing out its welcome. And Leonso Canales Jr. is happy as heck.

At his urging, the Kleberg County commissioners on Monday unanimously designated "heaven-o" as the county's official greeting. The reason: "hello" contains the word "hell."

For some reason, I now really want Michelle Obama to visit the Hellespont to collect seashells and read Percy Shelley, just so it can be reported in the Kleberg County newspapers.

Digg!

It must have bothered him to have several presidents (and governor) whose last name was slang for the female genital area. Did hearing it ever made him blush?

I wonder if Marin County ever had somebody seek to outlaw "No Right Turn" signs? I doubt it. This is screwball territory only the right wing seem to inhabit.

When you get to be six, you have to leave Kleberg County and go live somewhere else.

Just... wow.

Is there more than one actual extended family in this county? I bet they're all related.

Break off for the US and your only closest ally will be Mexico. Most of your resident, and esp your work force, are hispanic (legal or not) and with a mere two letter switch you got 'halo'- ain't that a Holy symbol!
don't tell me "Hi" was unacceptable because it gave the impression of drug use too?
Are they eating the mushrooms off the cow shit down there???

I'm not the one saying that. It's the first blog response to the actual article on the Univ. of Minnesota daily web news site.

I don't think it's limited to Texas, though as a Texan I'm fully aware of our unique social challenges.

However, this morning I listened to a discussion on NPR about using cap & trade to stem the use of the word "dude", allowing exemptions for people who can defend their need to use the word, like surfing instructors.

Wonder if the "heaven-o" group wants to change good-bi to good-hetero.

Please, I am wearying of hearing diatribes against my native state making it out to be ground zero for all the silly, preposterous, crackpot ideas ever born in our land. I live about 45 minutes from Kleberg County and I know it to be a mostly-sane, laid-back, quiet place (county seat: Kingsville), where most folks do not think like this halfwit. Such a law will never pass. On the other hand, we did give the nation the Rever-end (as in butthole) Hagee, who said Hurricane Katrina was "God's" vengeance on New Orleans for hosting a gay pride event. Hmmm...maybe I should move.
